Economy Overnight Park About

For RV travelers across Virginia, finding a reliable and welcoming spot for a night or an extended stay can sometimes be a challenge. In Roanoke, Virginia, Economy Overnight Park stands out not for its lavish amenities, but for its honest value, practical services, and most notably, the exceptional hospitality of its owner. This RV park is a testament to the idea that sometimes, what you really need is simply a safe, functional place to park with the essentials, and a helping hand when you need it most.

Economy Overnight Park, as its name suggests, is designed with practicality and affordability in mind. It might not be the "fanciest," as one customer review candidly puts it, but it consistently delivers on its promise of providing "what you need." This park is particularly appreciated by those in a bind, like the grateful travelers who found themselves "desperate, in limp mode, hauling a 47' toy hauler." What truly sets this park apart is the incredible support offered by its owner, Wayne, whose "hospitality" earns consistent five-star praise. He’s known for his willingness to "squeeze us into his small lot of mostly long term" residents and for being an "incredibly helpful person," even extending his services to include a recovery service. This makes Economy Overnight Park not just a place to park, but a reassuring presence for RVers navigating the roads of Virginia.

Location and Accessibility

Economy Overnight Park is conveniently located at 1180 Lee Hwy, Roanoke, VA 24019, USA. This address places it right off a major thoroughfare, Lee Highway, which is part of US Route 11. This prime location ensures easy access for RVs of all sizes, including large rigs like 47-foot toy haulers, making it an excellent stop for travelers passing through the Roanoke area.

Roanoke, often referred to as the "Star City of the South," is nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The park's location on Lee Highway provides quick connections to Interstate 81, a major north-south corridor through Virginia, enhancing its accessibility for both short overnight stays and longer-term residents.

While the park itself focuses on essential RV services, its location in Roanoke means that campers have convenient access to a wide array of local amenities and attractions. Within a short drive, visitors can find grocery stores, dining options ranging from local eateries to chain restaurants, and various retail outlets for any supplies they might need. The "beautiful region" surrounding Roanoke offers plenty to explore during an extended stay, even if one is dealing with unexpected vehicle repairs. Local attractions accessible from the park include the iconic Mill Mountain Star, offering panoramic views of the city, and the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway, renowned for its scenic drives and hiking opportunities. For those interested in history or culture, Roanoke boasts museums like the Virginia Museum of Transportation and the Taubman Museum of Art. The natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains also offers extensive opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and exploring various parks and greenways. The practicality of the park’s location, combined with the wealth of nearby resources and attractions, makes it a strategic and useful stop for any RV traveler in Virginia.

Services Offered

Economy Overnight Park prides itself on offering the fundamental services necessary for a comfortable and practical RV stay. As an "economy scenario," the focus is on utility and functionality rather than resort-style luxuries. The core services include:

  • Full Hookups: Each site provides full hookups, including water, sewer, and electrical connections (both 30-amp and 50-amp options are available). This ensures that RVers have all their essential utilities covered directly at their site.
  • Coin-Operated Washer/Dryer: For the convenience of residents, especially those on longer stays, the park offers laundry facilities with a coin washer and dryer.
  • Quarters Provided for Laundry: A thoughtful touch, the owner "has quarters" available for the laundry machines, eliminating the need for campers to hunt for change. This small detail significantly enhances convenience.
  • Assistance with Vehicle Issues: A highly noted, albeit unconventional, service is the owner Wayne's willingness to assist with vehicle troubles. As he "also has a recovery service," he has proven invaluable in "squeez us into his small lot" and helping during times of "need," such as when a large toy hauler was in "limp mode." This level of personal support is a significant added value.
  • Spaces for Large Rigs: The park can accommodate large RVs, as demonstrated by the ability to "squeeze" a 47-foot toy hauler into a spot.

While the park is described as having "no amenities" beyond these essentials in one review, it's clear that the focus is on providing reliable, functional services with exceptional personal support, making it an ideal choice for practical-minded RVers.

Features / Highlights

Economy Overnight Park, despite its unassuming name, boasts several key features and highlights that make it a valuable stop for RVers in Virginia:

  • Exceptional Hospitality and Owner Support: This is arguably the biggest highlight. Owner Wayne is consistently praised for his "hospitality" and for being an "incredibly helpful person." His willingness to go above and beyond, even assisting with truck parts and repairs or squeezing in distressed travelers, creates a reassuring and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Affordable Pricing: At "$45 a night with full hook ups," the park offers a fair and reasonable rate for essential services, making it a budget-friendly option for both transient and long-term stays.
  • Full Hookups at Every Site: The availability of water, sewer, and both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical hookups at each site is a crucial convenience for RVers, ensuring a hassle-free setup.
  • Convenient Laundry Facilities: The presence of coin-operated washer and dryer, along with the owner providing quarters, simplifies laundry needs for campers.
  • Accommodates Large Rigs: The ability to host substantial RVs, such as 47-foot toy haulers, makes it accessible for a wide range of travelers who might struggle to find space elsewhere.
  • Suitable for Long-Term Stays: While catering to "overnight" guests, the park also serves "mostly long term" residents, suggesting a stable and community-oriented environment for those looking for an extended stay in the Roanoke area.
  • No-Frills, Practical Approach: For campers who prioritize functionality and affordability over luxury amenities like pools or clubhouses, the park's straightforward "economy scenario" is a significant advantage.
  • Strategic Location for Repairs/Emergencies: The owner's recovery service and helpfulness in emergency situations (like a vehicle in "limp mode") make this park an invaluable resource for RVers experiencing unexpected mechanical issues in the Roanoke region.

These highlights collectively paint a picture of a park that, while "not the fanciest," truly cares for its guests and provides essential services with a level of personal attention that is increasingly rare.

Promotions or Special Offers

However, the consistent theme of affordability ("$45 a night with full hook ups" being a reasonable rate) and the park's nature, which includes "mostly long term" residents, suggest that the best value may be found through direct inquiry for extended stays.

It is common for RV parks that cater to longer-term occupants to offer reduced weekly or monthly rates compared to their nightly fees. Given the "economy scenario" and the owner Wayne's highly praised hospitality and helpfulness, it is highly recommended that prospective campers:

$45 a night with full hook ups. Not the fanciest but the owner is nice and you can get what you need. Coin washer/dryer and he has quarters.

5 stars for hospitality! We were desperate, in limp mode, hauling a 47' toy hauler. There were surprisingly few options on maps to pick on the fly. Wayne helped squeeze us into his small lot of mostly long term. It is indeed an economy scenario, but it had water, sewer, even 50 amps. It took a week for truck parts/repair, so we made the best of it in the beautiful region. I can see why some rate it lower, but don't judge a book by its cover. Wayne also has a recovery service and is an incredibly helpful person. We were humbled and grateful in a passing time of need.
