As locals, we often seek out places that offer both convenience and an enjoyable outdoor experience. It's important to have a clear understanding of what a campground truly offers before packing up the gear, and Elkhorn Shores presents a mixed picture based on publicly available feedback.
While online aesthetics might paint one picture, real-world experiences offer valuable insights. Elkhorn Shores aims to provide a space for outdoor activities and gatherings, situated in the scenic area of Elkhorn. It seems to host events, such as a Renaissance Faire, which indicates a capacity for larger crowds and organized activities. However, it's also clear that individual camping experiences can vary significantly. Understanding these facets is crucial for Nebraskans planning their next outdoor adventure, whether it's for a peaceful weekend escape or to attend a lively local event.
Elkhorn Shores is situated at 233rd & West Maple Road, Elkhorn, NE 68022, USA. This location places it conveniently within the greater Omaha metropolitan area, specifically in the growing community of Elkhorn. For many Nebraskans, its proximity to a major urban center makes it an easily accessible option for a quick getaway or for those who prefer not to travel too far from home for their outdoor recreation.
The address on 233rd & West Maple Road suggests that the campground is located on a main thoroughfare, contributing to its ease of access for vehicles, including RVs and those towing trailers. Elkhorn itself is a well-established community with local amenities, which means campers are not entirely isolated from necessary supplies or services. The balance of being close to urban conveniences while still offering an outdoor setting can be appealing to a wide range of local users, from families to event-goers looking for nearby accommodation. Its position helps connect it to the broader network of roads in Eastern Nebraska, making it a viable destination for those coming from different parts of the state.

- Power Source: Electrical hookups are intended to be available at RV sites, though a customer reported continuous tripping.
- Water Hookups: Water hookups are reportedly available at RV sites, but a customer experienced them not working.
- Porta-Potties: Portable toilets are available. A customer noted issues with doors slamming at night and lack of internal lights, but did state they "don’t stink."
- Shower House: A shower house is offered, but a customer described it as "disgusting" and opted to pay for showers elsewhere.

- Proximity to Omaha: Its location near a major metropolitan area makes it easily accessible for a quick escape from city life for many Nebraskans.
- North Beach / South Beach Areas: The mention of "North Beach" and "South Beach" indicates distinct areas within the campground, potentially offering different atmospheres or types of sites.
- Potential for Social Gatherings: The presence of parties and blaring music on "North Beach" suggests that at times, the campground can be a lively place for social gatherings, attracting a different crowd than those seeking quiet.
- Pet-Friendly (Implied): The mention of barking dogs suggests that pets are allowed, a feature important to many campers.

Based on the provided customer review, Elkhorn Shores appears to implement dynamic pricing, significantly increasing rates during holiday weekends. A specific complaint noted that the price was "double what it normally would be" for Memorial Weekend, with "no discounts for veterans." This suggests that the campground's pricing structure for special events or peak periods might involve substantial increases without offering specific promotions or discounts for certain groups or affiliations. There is no information provided about regular promotions, loyalty programs, or off-peak special offers. Prospective campers, especially those planning to visit during holidays or popular event dates, are strongly advised to contact Elkhorn Shores directly via phone to confirm current pricing, understand any additional fees, and inquire about any available discounts or packages that might not be publicly advertised. The available information indicates that special offers or promotions are not a highlighted aspect of their public-facing operations, particularly during high-demand periods.

For Nebraskans considering Elkhorn Shores for their next outdoor excursion, it's important to approach with a clear understanding of its distinct characteristics. While its online presentation might be appealing, the direct customer feedback suggests a campground with both potential for lively events and areas where services might fall short of expectations. Its primary suitability for locals lies in its convenient location within the Elkhorn area, offering a relatively quick drive from Omaha and surrounding communities. This accessibility makes it a viable option for those seeking a nearby spot for a quick getaway or to attend specific events.
Elkhorn Shores appears to function as a venue that can accommodate larger gatherings, as evidenced by its hosting of the Renaissance Faire. For locals interested in attending such events or who prefer a campground with a potentially more active social scene, certain areas of Elkhorn Shores might cater to that preference. However, for those seeking a consistently high level of campsite maintenance, reliable utility hookups, or a quiet, traditional camping experience, it is crucial to manage expectations and perhaps communicate specific needs directly with the staff prior to arrival. Understanding the reported mixed experiences can help Nebraskans make an informed decision, ensuring that if they choose Elkhorn Shores, it aligns with their specific camping preferences and expectations for their outdoor adventure close to home.
Customer Reviews
For memorial weekend, we brought two veterans with us to this campground. Let’s be honest it was a shitty campground. We were called every day about someone complaining about noise and even about the porter potties door slamming at night. They offer a shower house but it’s disgusting so we chose to go to loves gas station and pay $17 for a shower. Due to how we were treated one of our veterans that drove all the way from Mississippi to come camping here with us Left. Not only that, but we had a four month old baby with us during our camping trip. Yet when we came in, there was a whole party going on on North Beach with blaring music. South Beach has absolutely no lights. Our campsite wasn’t even mowed. The fire pits were so tiny. We couldn’t even get a decent fire going. We never received the rules and regulations for this campground, nor did we digitally sign anything. Which during complaints we were told we had done. Yet when we got here, the lady didn’t even know where our campsite was at. Although that we chose an RV campsite for tent camping because of our child and because of the power source, Which continuously keeps tripping, And the water won’t work, even though we have a water hook up. There were dogs barking at 6 AM from two different campsites close to ours yet we never called about a complaint about our noise. Our neighbors that have an RV were slamming car doors at 5:30 in the morning. For a campsite that looks so beautiful online is trash in person. It’s a shame that we couldn’t even enjoy our weekend due to all the complaining that we received from staff. We were even told that we were not going to be able to camp here Again. Does that sound like customer service to you? To me it just sounds like blatant disrespectful staff. And because of a holiday weekend, they raise their price to double What it normally would be with no discounts for veterans. After communicating with staff before even coming here, they told us that they would hold our campsite for paying for one night ahead of time and that we could pay the rest of our weekend upon arrival except They charged us for all three nights right away. There are no lights in the Porta potties, and the only thing that I can say about this campsite is that at least the porta potties don’t stink. I bet you that these were just brought out for this weekend for the very first time. And let’s not forget when I went into the shower There were nasty towels on the floor dirt in the bottom of the showers that looked like potential mold shit all over the walls and then open bottle on Of someone’s shampoo or body wash. I’m disgusted with this campsite and normally I don’t leave reviews, but after all the disrespect that we received and to have one of our veterans leave, I had to leave a review for this. Any other place that I have ever camped people would be dancing And listening to music and enjoying their weekend. This is the worst campground I’ve ever been in. And even if they Hadn’t told us that we can’t come back I doubt that anyone in our family would come back to this campsite. RV site or not. Any excuses that they have for how we were treated are irrelevant Because we went out of our way to be respectful. Picture say 1000 words and here’s the proof Of what this campsite really looks like. Only because I had to give this place to start to leave a review is the only reason why they got one star from me otherwise there would’ve been no star. To be honest, I’d probably leave negative stars If that were an option.
Renaissance faire here in April! It was good. Nice people and fun joust. Definitely worth a trip but the food wasn’t the best sorry you all were so nice but food was mediocre at best.
Nice little gem!! I wish we could've stayed longer. The staff was super helpful during an emergency. My step kid played around with the camp shower and burned himself, but the staff helped us conduct first aid as my kit want prepared for burns (all of us have fire safety training... But not stupid small children trained) Nestled right along the river, I wish we could've stayed for the music festival
I think this campground has potential, but we didn’t get to experience any of it. The host was nice. But the campground was terrible. The space we were given was so close to our neighbors that I could hear them walking in their campers. We had cigarette butts on one side, and dog poop on the other. The spots are so small that I’m not sure if it was from the previous travelers, or our neighbors. All of the pictures on google looked great, but nothing like what we saw while we were there.
Super serene. Nice and clean. I enjoyed my time until the horrible sun burn I inflicted upon myself 😆.. took the kids and went camping, the one and only thing I did not enjoy was the smell of the river.. it's not the greatest, but over all this camp site is amazing!! 10/10
