I had the privilege of spending a full week at Ockanickon Scout Reservation as an Assistant Scoutmaster with our Troop 44, and it was truly an outstanding experience. The camp is very well organized, with excellent facilities that provide a safe, fun, and educational environment for scouts. There is no shortage of activities here—our scouts enjoyed shooting, archery, swimming, and a variety of outdoor challenges that kept them engaged every day. Beyond the traditional scouting activities, what impressed me most was the emphasis on learning. The camp offers a wide range of STEM programs and merit badge classes that allow kids to build valuable skills while still having fun. The staff and counselors were supportive, enthusiastic, and clearly dedicated to making the experience memorable for every scout. The balance of adventure, education, and community spirit really stood out. Overall, it was a rewarding week for both the kids and adults. Our scouts came home with new skills, great memories, and stronger friendships. I would highly recommend Ockanickon Scout Reservation to any troop looking for a camp that blends outdoor adventure with learning opportunities.
Aug 24, 2025 · Dr. Tarendra LakhankarMy son went here for scout camp and had the best time. He was at Broad Creek last year and it did not go so well; this is to say that he had another camp to compare it to. The firing range limited people by charging for ammo and did not prioritize merit badge kids so this made it easier for all to enjoy. My son received 8 Merritt badges while he was here and found the ones provided were done in an organized timely way. My son was stung 9 times by a yellow jacket and the staff (as well as his scout master) were essential in helping him through this ordeal. There are latrines and port a potties but the potties were locked and a combo needed to be entered which delayed entry. Most of the facilities were close together The staff says good morning no matter the time of day.
Jul 29, 2025 · Theresa StubblefieldNice large campground. Staff is pretty chill and classes are easy and mostly easy to get to. I feel the trading post has some steep prices especially camp merchandise. On the other hand, the latrines are horrendous. The latrines feel like they can collapse at any second and the bathrooms are infested with flies and spiders. The stench is not as bad as people say it is tho. You can also hear other people's business which i feel defeats some privacy purposes.
Jul 28, 2025 · Official GreenPidgeonThe camp is okay, The merit badge counselors were great very thorough with their teachings. The property is well kept for the most part. The latrines need some work! Structurally they're pretty much intact but there needs to be attention placed on cleanliness and the smell which is enough to take out a human during these really extremely hot days. There was a hot water tank that went bad in the adult shower house which left it so I was there for a whole week and never had a hot shower. I don't know if I was always going at the wrong time which was usually at 11:00 pm so for a few days I went at 5:00 a.m. and still the same situation no hot water. There needed to have been a way to have that fixed immediately. I think someone opted to just let it go but the difference between a hot shower and an ice water bath are leaps and bounds away from each other!
Jul 24, 2024 · Ant McCall1111Son just got back from this disaster. Not enough food and what they had was not good. The latrines had a smell that could knock down an elephant. Second that for lake. The store was useless. Nothing but junk food and sodas. This compared to some of the other camps he’s been to that had grab n go foods. Worst of all, some of the staff engaged with some other scouts from another troop in making off color comments to the girl scouts that traveled with his troop as well as others. Once this was discovered, the scout leader of the girl troop immediately took care of this. Hot mess. My son has been to Camp Bashore and Hawk Ridge and had an awesome time at both. On top of that, this was more expensive than those two and they’re all in PA. Major disappointment.
