Little Orleans, MD 21766, USA
For Maryland locals with a true adventurous spirit, who crave genuine solitude and an immersive wilderness experience, Green Ridge State Forest Campsite #85 near Little Orleans, MD, offers an unparalleled opportunity. This isn't your average campground with paved roads and manicured sites; rather, it’s a rugged, remote, and expansive primitive campsite designed for those who truly want to disconnect and embrace the wild beauty of Western Maryland.
Campsite #85 provides a vast and secluded space, making it perfect for small groups or multiple families seeking to share a private slice of nature. As one reviewer noted, the "site is huge and could hold 3 to 4 tents and vehicles with ease," offering ample room to spread out and enjoy the outdoors without feeling crowded. This generous space is a significant draw for Marylanders looking for more than just a plot of land, but rather a private basecamp for their outdoor adventures.
The defining characteristic of Campsite #85 is its remote nature. Described as "very remote in the winter," it’s clear that this site is designed for an "extreme off grid" experience, even more so in warmer months when nature is in full bloom. This means fewer facilities and more self-reliance, appealing to those who prefer a more authentic and less commercialized camping trip. The sounds of the "flowing creek will lull you to sleep," providing a serene natural soundtrack to your wilderness retreat, a stark contrast to the urban sounds many Marylanders are accustomed to.
However, accessing this secluded paradise is part of the adventure. Visitors should be prepared for a challenging drive, as the "1/4 mile driveway is pretty funky" and "4x4 access or high clearance vehicles recommended." Nearby Cliff Road is not an understatement, emphasizing the rugged terrain. But for those with the right vehicle and a taste for adventure, "it's a fun drive" that leads to a truly "isolated and peaceful" sanctuary. This commitment to a more challenging access point filters out casual campers, ensuring a tranquil and undisturbed experience for those who make the journey.
For Maryland locals who are well-prepared and genuinely seeking a raw, private, and deeply immersive connection with nature, Green Ridge State Forest Campsite #85 promises an unforgettable and truly off-grid experience within our very own state. It's an opportunity to test your self-sufficiency and revel in the quiet beauty of Maryland’s wilderness.

The "1/4 mile driveway is pretty funky," and a "4x4 access or high clearance vehicles recommended" for reaching the site. Site 85 is very remote in the winter so I imagine it’s extreme off grid in summer. The flowing creek will lull you to sleep but the 1/4 mile driveway is pretty funky. 4x4 access or high clearance vehicles recommended. The site is huge and could hold 3 to 4 tents and vehicles with ease. Large fire put and table provided. There is a secret find behind the campsite about 300 yards back. Good luck!
Mar 04, 2022 · Frank PolievkaJrNearby Cliff Road is not an understatement and you'll definitely need 4 wheel drive or a good clearance to get to the site, but it's a fun drive. Once you get there it's very isolated and peaceful, and the nearby creek is relaxing to listen to. The site itself is pretty large and surrounded by hills in all directions aside from the road leaving.
Jun 16, 2022 · Brian SpatesGreat site, entrance was very muddy and rutted, no problem for a 4x4. The creek bed was dry, but after a rain storm it started flowing. Site held 4 tents just fine and features a huge firepit.
Jul 17, 2023 · Ryan KuhnThe campsite and road down to it is AMAZING, BUT because this is a “high clearance” road (any car can go down it but you might slightly scrape), it makes for a very popular road for random cars and trucks to drive down and “off road” while you’re camping. At first, the first 2 or 3 people were fine, but after the 10th and 11th and so on, it gets really annoying. There’s nothing at the start of the entrance to show the campsite is in use, there for everyone and anyone just freely drives down the road since they can’t see the actual campsite from the entrance. Then because it’s so narrow, the drivers are forced to enter into your campsite and you’re forced to move everything in your campsite around just to be able to give the drivers enough room to turn around and leave.
