For Vermont locals and seasoned adventurers seeking a genuine, unpretentious outdoor experience, Henderson’s Hide-A-Way Campground in South Royalton offers a refreshing return to the basics. This is not a sprawling resort filled with large RVs and endless amenities; rather, it is a small, quiet, and wonderfully located campsite right on the banks of the beautiful White River. It perfectly embodies the simple, natural essence of Vermont camping.
Henderson’s Hide-A-Way is celebrated by its visitors for its fantastic river frontage and the genuinely friendly welcome extended by the owners. One camper noted the owners are "very nice people," while another described it as a "Small basic campground, but conveniently close to South Royalton and right on the river." The focus here is on relaxation, river recreation, and easy access to the charming local town, making it an ideal retreat for those who prioritize location and nature over luxury facilities.
This campground is particularly well-known among the cycling community, as it is conveniently situated directly off the popular Adventure Cycling Association (ACA) Northern Tier route. Its fundamental, rustic approach to camping—featuring essential necessities like drinking water and porta potties—allows guests to disconnect from the noise of modern life and fully engage with the serene Vermont landscape.
Location and Accessibility: A Prime Spot on the White River and Near South Royalton
The location of Henderson’s Hide-A-Way Campground is arguably its most significant asset, especially for local Vermont users. Situated at 1427 S Windsor St, South Royalton, VT 05068, USA, the campground offers immediate and direct access to the White River.
This prime position makes it a hub for water-based recreation, including kayaking, fishing, and tubing. The campsite is nestled in the Upper Valley region, which is famous for its rolling hills, forested terrain, and access to numerous outdoor attractions, such as the nearby Quechee Gorge and the Vermont Institute of Natural Science.

Small basic campground, but conveniently close to South Royalton and right on the river. As a bicycle tourer it is right of the ACA Northern Tier route . Discounted rate for cyclists. They have drinking water (although it isn't plumbed) and porta potties, otherwise a very basic, site, but it is a quick ride into town for food and other needs.
Jun 16, 2025 · Tom KowalskiExcellent campground right on the river. The owners are very nice people.
Jul 30, 2025 · ADAM TRISCHLERHeard about their Tubin' Taxi service and had to go check it out! It was a great day for it today, sunny and a "feels like" temp of 98°F 🥵. $10 a person gives you parking, tube use, and shuttle bus service to a put-in spot up-river (they can help you have a longer or shorter tube trip as you wish). Then you just tube yourselves back down to the campground! Friendly owners and nice place. Bring lots of water, and a dry-bag was very helpful to put phones and stuff in and attaches to the tubes. You could probably do a floating cooler and attach to the tubes also. Important - wear good water shoes and of course sunscreen!! ☀️😎 We are travelers working for the summer at DHMC, and have no way to keep our own river tubes or haul them around, so we super appreciated this easy way to go tubing here! We will definitely be back again for tubing down the White River and highly recommend this place for anyone looking to go tubin' in the area.
Jun 29, 2021 · Mary E. GibsonHidden jem that even has live music on specific dates. Even without a campaign they offer a ride to tube down the white river with parking available on site!!
