Jun 03, 2025 · Pawpaw RoniBest place to camp! Especially if you enjoy not being around a bunch of giant metal campers 😉 the views are amazing, the out houses didn't smell (at least when I was there) I've been going since I was a kid so it's a very special place to make good memories ❤️ just bring LOTS of bug spray! *It was also nice and quiet, and if people had music/noise it wasn't very loud bc the spots are spaced out
Jul 08, 2024 · lydia martinSeeing the brilliance of the setting sun, by moonlight, is not something I ever expected to experience, but here it is. Site 14, but many others have this same view. Stunning!
Oct 12, 2024 · Lara SherefkinGreat State Forest Campground. The location of this campground is the best, being right on Lake Michigan. The sunsets are quite nice, like many are on the coast of Lake Michigan. And something about the giant pine trees, both in the campground and down by the water, make this campground majestic. The spots here are very nice and spacious. Try to get a spot near the water if you decide to camp here. It's well worth it. Much like the other state forest campgrounds, there are not any showers or electric. It's pure rustic camping. It's a true feeling of nature when camping in this place. If you are coming from the Lower Peninsula and you drive down 2, the roadside beaches are little hidden gems. They are kind of low-key. So if you are reading this right now, don't tell anybody about them :) I never had any flaws in which I ran into at Detour state forest campground, which is on the other side of the UP on Lake Huron. No bugs, clean toilets, and firm ground to set up your gear. Overall, this campground gets a thumbs up.
