Situated between the cities of Pontiac and Flint, it’s a convenient drive for many residents in southeast Michigan.

The campground’s address provides straightforward access via well-maintained roads. For those traveling from the Detroit metropolitan area, the drive is typically less than an hour, making it an excellent option for weekend getaways or even longer stays without extensive travel time. Its proximity to major highways, while not directly on them, ensures that navigating to the campground is easy and efficient. This means that once you arrive, you have immediate access to a vast natural playground without needing to drive further. The convenience of being able to explore miles of hiking and biking trails, or enjoy fishing and boating on multiple lakes within the same park, significantly enhances the overall camping experience. This peaceful environment is ideal for relaxation and quiet enjoyment of the outdoors. Promotions or Special Offers

As a state recreation area campground managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Holly McGinnis Lake Campground typically operates under a standard fee structure for campsites and park entry. Therefore, specific "promotions" or "special offers" in the traditional commercial sense (like discount codes or seasonal sales) are generally not available.

However, there are a few considerations that could be viewed as ongoing "offers" or benefits for Michigan locals:

  • Michigan Recreation Passport: This is arguably the most significant "deal" for Michigan residents. For a small annual fee (added to your license plate renewal), the Recreation Passport provides unlimited vehicle entry to all Michigan state parks and recreation areas, including Holly Recreation Area and McGinnis Lake Campground. This offers substantial savings for frequent visitors.
  • Off-Season Camping Rates: While not a promotional offer, camping rates often vary by season, with lower prices potentially available during the off-peak months (e.g., late fall, winter, early spring). This can make camping more accessible for budget-conscious individuals who don't mind cooler temperatures.
  • Online Reservations: While not a discount, the convenience of online reservations through the Michigan DNR's reservation system (midnrreservations.com) ensures campers can secure their preferred sites well in advance, especially for popular weekends.
  • Free Programs: The park sometimes offers free interpretive programs or activities, such as the "Fishing in the Parks" program, which provides fishing poles and tackle for kids to learn about fishing at Heron Lake. These add value to the camping experience without additional cost.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on any fees, reservation policies, or ongoing programs that might benefit your visit, it is always best to check the official Michigan DNR website for Holly Recreation Area or contact the campground office directly.

I love this place and so do my 3 dogs. We got a secluded campsite (141 Hickory Loop), and it’s gorgeous- tucked into the woods and was easy to back into. You’re far enough from people to where you don’t really see a lot of them or hear them that often besides people walking by. This has been very peaceful- and fairly inexpensive as well. There is no water hookup- but you can fill up and dump at the front of the campground. No store- but you can stop and get firewood when you check in. I will also add that there are a LOT of spiders being surrounded by so many trees- so be warned LOL

Always our go to when starting the season. Spacious sites, great rangers, and well kept grounds. Still priced reasonable compared to other state campgrounds jacking their prices up.
