Host at Pelican Cove RV Park About

For Floridians who are active duty military, veterans, retired military, DoD civilians, or authorized guests, finding the perfect RV park that combines convenience, exceptional amenities, and a strong sense of community can be a top priority. Host at Pelican Cove RV Park, more commonly known as Pelican Roost RV Park, located on the Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, stands out as a highly regarded destination that checks all these boxes. This isn't just any RV park; it's a dedicated facility designed to provide a comfortable and rewarding experience for those who serve or have served, offering a unique blend of coastal living and military benefits. It's a place where you can relax, connect with fellow service members, and enjoy the beautiful Florida coastline with unparalleled access.

Host at Pelican Cove RV Park is situated at 1984, 1974 Baltimore St, Jacksonville, FL 32227, USA, which places it directly within the secure perimeter of Naval Station Mayport. This location is paramount to its appeal for authorized users. For Floridians, particularly those with military affiliation, its presence on base means enhanced security, access to numerous on-base facilities, and a distinct community atmosphere. The park overlooks the jetties along the St. Johns River and is just a short walk from the ocean beach, offering phenomenal views and immediate access to coastal recreation. From a practical standpoint, being on Naval Station Mayport means proximity to essential services like the Commissary and Exchange (though the main ones might be off-base a few miles from the main gate), as well as base amenities such as a fitness center, shoppette, and even an auto shop. While the specific street address is given, access requires entry through the military installation's gates, which necessitates proper military ID for authorized users and adherence to base entry procedures. For many Floridians with military ties, this controlled access is a feature, providing a secure and familiar environment for their RV stays. The location truly capitalizes on the benefits of being part of a naval station, offering a unique blend of recreational opportunity and military convenience.

Services Offered:

  • Full Hookup RV Sites: The park offers a variety of RV sites equipped with full hookups, typically including 15/30/50 amp electric service, water, sewer, and often CATV (cable TV).
  • Free Laundry Facilities: A highly appreciated amenity, the park provides free-to-use washers and dryers for guests, making extended stays much more convenient.
  • Clean Restrooms and Showers: Guests consistently praise the cleanliness and quality of the bathrooms and showers, which are well-maintained and offer plenty of hot water.
  • Free Coffee in the Morning: A welcoming touch, guests can enjoy complimentary coffee to start their day.
  • Free Ice: This is a convenient and often-praised amenity, especially helpful for RVers.
  • WiFi Access: Wireless internet access is available in the park, with at least one free connection per site, and additional LAN connections in the recreation room.
  • Recreation Room/Clubhouse: A large and clean recreation room (also known as "The Roost" or clubhouse) serves as a community hub, offering space for social activities, board games, and TV.
  • Dump Station: A sanitary dump and wash-down station are located at the park entrance for convenient waste disposal and RV cleaning.
  • Pet-Friendly: Pets are allowed in the RV park with usual leash and clean-up rules. There's a dedicated dog park nearby and clean-up bags available. However, strict rules apply to leaving pets unattended outside.
  • Mail Forwarding: Guests needing mail services during their stay must typically use local General Delivery.

Features / Highlights:

  • Military-Exclusive Access: This is a key distinguishing feature, as the park is accessible only to authorized users including Active Duty, National Guard, Reservists, Retired Military, 0-100% DAV, Purple Heart Recipients, Former POW, Veteran Caregivers, and DoD Civilians. This ensures a secure and familiar environment.
  • Phenomenal Waterfront Views: Many sites, particularly the waterfront ones, offer breathtaking views of the St. Johns River jetties and passing naval ships, providing a unique and captivating backdrop for your stay.
  • Proximity to Ocean Beach: The campground is just a short walk or a half-mile away from a beautiful, less crowded beach, perfect for sunbathing, strolls, and enjoying the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Well-Maintained Grounds: The park's grounds are "cared for daily," ensuring a clean, well-kept, and pleasant environment for all residents.
  • Concrete Pads and Level Sites: Many sites feature concrete pads, making RV setup quick and easy, and ensuring level parking for stability and comfort.
  • Dog Park: A fenced dog park is located nearby, providing a dedicated space for furry companions to play and exercise.
  • Access to Base Amenities: Guests can utilize numerous facilities on Naval Station Mayport, including a fitness center, shoppette, golf course, library, and more, enhancing the overall value of their stay.
  • Strategic Location for Exploration: Beyond the base, the park's Jacksonville location offers convenient access to city attractions like the Jacksonville Zoo, Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, and allows for day trips to historic St. Augustine.
  • Community Atmosphere: The park fosters a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with opportunities to connect with other military members and their families.

Promotions or Special Offers:

As a military recreational lodging facility, Host at Pelican Cove RV Park (Pelican Roost) offers a structured pricing model and reservation system rather than typical commercial "promotions" or "special offers." However, the pricing itself is a significant benefit for its authorized user base, often being more affordable than comparable civilian RV parks, especially for active duty personnel. Here's what Floridians should know about their specific offerings:

  • Tiered Pricing: Rates are typically tiered, with lower rates for active duty military during the slow season (April 1 - October 31) and slightly higher rates for retired military, DAV, and DoD civilians, or during the peak season (November 1 - March 31). This structure inherently provides a form of "special offer" to active duty personnel.
  • Extended Stay Options: While there are maximum stay limits (e.g., 14 days for waterfront sites, 30 days for other Pelican Roost sites, and up to 180 days at the sister park Osprey Cove RV Park also on NS Mayport), these extended stay options at favorable rates are a key draw for snowbirds and long-term visitors.
  • Waterfront Site Premiums: While not a discount, the option to pay a small additional fee (e.g., $2 a night more) for a waterfront site is a desirable "offer" that enhances the RV experience.
  • Free Amenities as Value Add: The inclusion of free laundry, free coffee, and free ice are substantial value-added services that can be considered ongoing "special offers" built into the stay.

To inquire about current rates, reservation policies, and specific availability, authorized patrons in Florida should contact Pelican Cove RV Park directly via the provided phone numbers. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made well in advance: Active duty personnel can book up to 12 months ahead, while retirees and DoD civilians can book up to 6 months in advance.

This is across the road from the RV park. There is a covered space with picnic tables and a mini dog park. The fenced area is separated for small/medium dogs and large dogs. I think the fence for the larger dogs should be higher. Bags are provided to clean up after your dog.
