Indian Springs Family Resort About

Introduction / Overview

For Missouri families and outdoor enthusiasts, Indian Springs Family Resort in Steelville offers a remarkable and highly recommended destination for camping, floating, and creating cherished memories in the heart of the Ozarks. Nestled along the beautiful Upper Meramec River, this resort is designed to provide a comprehensive and deeply enjoyable outdoor experience, catering to both relaxation and adventure. It stands out not only for its natural beauty and range of activities but also for its strong commitment to a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.

Testimonials from satisfied guests consistently highlight the resort's exceptional qualities. One family raved, "Our family just got back from a camping and floating trip. The owners are Believers and very kind. They do an amazing job running the campground despite having floods 2014, 2016 and 2024 (we think we remember the years-forgive us if we are wrong). My kids' favorite part was floating and swimming in the river. We floated on Sunday, which made for a nice and quiet trip. We only passed a group of guys fishing. We are a family of 5 and loved having the raft option so we could all ride together. We only stopped once for about 10 minutes and therefore finished the float in about 3 hours. After floating you should go to Dairy Isle and Grill in Steelville. Order small because their portions are huge. The camp store is stocked well and priced reasonably. If you forget anything the camp store is a great option or the Dollar General in Steelville is close by. We chose campsite #15 due to the proximity of the creek at the backside, river at the front, close to the camp store and bathrooms. We loved how shady it was. It also had electric and water. We recommend this facility for any family wanting to have a great camping and floating time together." This detailed review underscores the resort's resilience, excellent floating experiences, convenient amenities, and welcoming nature.

Another visitor added, "It was so nice here! Quite, family friendly. They had restrooms that were clean along with sinks and a big mirror. They had showers that were only a dollar which was so handy after playing in the river. There was a playground and a couple other kid playthings. A pool. They served a nice breakfast on Sunday morning for only $5!" These reviews collectively paint a vivid picture of Indian Springs Family Resort as a well-managed, clean, and amenity-rich destination where genuine hospitality creates an inviting environment for all. Its reputation as a place where families can truly relax and enjoy the outdoors makes it a premier choice for Missouri adventurers.

Location and Accessibility

Indian Springs Family Resort is beautifully situated at 185 Indian Springs Rd, Steelville, MO 65565, USA. This address places it directly by the banks of the upper Meramec River, making it an ideal base for river-based recreation. Steelville itself is a well-known outdoor hub in Missouri, often referred to as the "Floating Capital," drawing visitors from across the state and beyond for its pristine rivers and scenic beauty.

Accessibility to the resort is generally good. Steelville is located within reasonable driving distance of major Missouri cities, with St. Louis being approximately 1.5 to 2 hours away, and other parts of the state also within an accessible driving range. The resort's location on Indian Springs Road means it’s slightly off the main highways, providing a more secluded and peaceful environment, while still being easily reachable. As one reviewer noted, the proximity of amenities like Dollar General in Steelville ensures that essentials are never far away.

Crucially, the resort's position along the Upper Meramec River is a significant advantage, particularly for float trips. Guests can conveniently "float back to the campground" at the end of their seven-mile river journey, eliminating the need for complex shuttle arrangements after a day on the water. While the resort embraces its riverside location, the reviews also subtly acknowledge challenges with flooding (mentioning floods in 2014, 2016, and 2024), suggesting that while the property is resilient, visitors should be aware of river conditions. However, the owners' ability to "do an amazing job running the campground despite having floods" speaks to their dedication and management capabilities. The shaded sites, as highlighted by a camper, further enhance comfort during Missouri's warm summers, making the resort an excellent choice for a natural escape.

We just returned home from spending two nights at Indian Springs. The campsite we originally reserved (#59) did not have enough flat space for two tents but they were very nice about letting us pick a more suitable area. We also got in on the Saturday Night Fish Fry ($7pp) and the Sunday morning Pancake Breakfast ($4pp). Both were very delicious! Another thing we really liked was the family atmosphere. There weren't any huge party groups that kept us up all night. My only complaint is about the bathrooms and showers. The bathrooms are so very dimly lit you can hardly see and most of them had huge spiders/webs. The showers were warm (if you paid $1 / 5mins) but again needed better light bulbs. It really wouldn't take much to keep up with the insects, put in brighter lights, and a decent shower head. We LOVED our float trip which took us about 4 hours with stopping about 4 different times.

Should have written this review long ago! We love this place, and have been there 3 times. We go the weekend AFTER Labor Day and Memorial Day. The river isn't crowded (everyone else went the holiday weekend before) and this campground isn't crowded either. The folks who run this are super friendly, kind, easy to deal with. The cabins are clean, newly remodeled bathrooms, and the place is quiet. So relaxing to cook on a grill, next to a campfire and relax with a cold beer after a nice day on the river. This last time (weekend after Labor day) we could only float rather than spend the night as they had staffing issues. We still had a good time. Try them out!
