Jim's Camping About
For West Virginians who love to explore our beautiful state in their RVs or travel trailers, finding a convenient and well-equipped place to stay is always a priority. Jim's Camping, located in Milton, WV, presents itself as a practical option for those seeking a no-frills, functional campground that provides essential amenities, particularly for longer stays or for those passing through the Huntington area. This article aims to offer a candid and informative overview of Jim's Camping, addressing both its functional advantages and aspects that potential visitors, especially our local West Virginia residents, should consider before planning their trip. We'll delve into its location, the services it offers, its key features, and ultimately, why it might be a suitable choice for certain types of local campers.
Camping in West Virginia is a diverse experience, ranging from secluded wilderness sites to full-service RV parks. Jim's Camping falls into the latter category, focusing on providing the fundamental necessities for mobile campers. As one review notes, "There's not a lot of RV park options in the Huntington area especially with amenities," highlighting the value of a place that offers "what one would need." For those prioritizing full hookups, laundry facilities, and showers, Jim's Camping could fill a significant need in the local area. While it may not offer the picturesque, serene setting of some state parks, its utility as a practical base for extended stays or as a convenient stopover is undeniable.
Navigating the various options for RV camping can be challenging, particularly when specific amenities are required. Jim's Camping positions itself as a functional choice, especially for those who are focused on the practicalities of a stay. This guide will provide details about its location, the specific services you can expect, and an honest look at what makes it a suitable, albeit perhaps a "learning experience," for local West Virginia RV enthusiasts.
Jim's Camping is conveniently located at 1794 US-60, Milton, WV 25541, USA. This placement directly on US Route 60 offers a significant advantage in terms of accessibility, making it relatively easy to find and reach for those traveling through the region. US-60 is a major highway that connects various towns and cities across West Virginia, ensuring that the campground is on a well-known and trafficked route.
Milton, a charming town in Cabell County, serves as the local hub for Jim's Camping. While the campground itself is noted to be "out far enough from all traffic but close enough to middle of town," its position on a main road means it's not deeply secluded, which contributes to the "noisy RV park" mentioned in one review, likely due to traffic and the proximity of train tracks. This is an important consideration for campers seeking absolute silence. However, for those who prioritize ease of access over complete solitude, the location is a practical benefit.
The accessibility of Jim's Camping is further enhanced by its proximity to Interstate 64, a crucial east-west artery in West Virginia. This allows for straightforward travel to larger urban centers. For instance, Huntington, a major city in West Virginia, is a relatively short drive away. As one reviewer mentioned, "We were wanting closer to Huntington but there is no options whatsoever," indicating that Jim's Camping serves a need for RV accommodations in the general vicinity of Huntington. This makes it a viable option for those working in Huntington, visiting Marshall University, or seeking the shopping and dining experiences offered by the city, such as the Huntington Mall. Similarly, Charleston, the state capital, is also within a manageable driving distance, providing further access to amenities and attractions. The direct frontage on US-60 ensures that campers can easily navigate to and from the site, making it a convenient stop for both short-term and extended stays for West Virginia locals exploring the region.
Jim's Camping offers a range of essential services designed to accommodate RV and travel trailer campers, particularly those seeking functional amenities for a comfortable stay. Based on customer reviews, the campground focuses on providing the basics needed for mobile living.
-
Full Hookups: A primary service highlighted by customers is the availability of full hookups. This typically includes connections for water, electricity (commonly 30 and 50 amp services to accommodate various RV sizes), and sewer at each individual site. This is a crucial convenience for RVers, allowing for a self-contained and comfortable experience without needing to rely on central facilities for all needs. One reviewer specifically stated, "They do have full hook ups."
-
Public Restrooms with Showers: The campground provides communal bathroom facilities. Reviews mention "2 public restrooms with showers," indicating that these are available for use by all guests. While one review notes that "Showers were dirty and one was broken," the presence of these facilities is still a key service, offering options for personal hygiene, especially for those in rigs without full bathrooms or those preferring communal facilities.
-
Laundry Room: A significant convenience for long-term campers or those on extended trips, Jim's Camping features a laundry room. This allows guests to wash and dry their clothes on-site, a highly valued amenity that reduces the need to seek out external laundromats.
-
Water Regulator Necessity: While not a service provided by the campground itself, a crucial piece of information for campers is the necessity of a water regulator. As one reviewer states, "You definitely need a water regulator here." This implies that the water pressure might be high, and a regulator is essential to protect an RV's plumbing system from damage. This is a practical tip for all prospective visitors.
While the reviews point to some issues with maintenance, the core services offered by Jim's Camping address the fundamental needs of RV and travel trailer users looking for a practical place to stay in the Milton area. It is always advisable for prospective campers to call ahead and inquire about the current condition of facilities and any specific requirements.
Jim's Camping, while presenting some challenges according to reviews, also possesses several features and highlights that make it a notable option for certain West Virginia campers, particularly those focused on practical utility and long-term stays.
-
Full Hookups for RVs: The absolute strongest feature is the provision of full hookups at its sites. This means water, electricity, and sewer connections are available directly at each campsite, which is a major convenience for RV and travel trailer owners. As one review explicitly states, "They do have full hook ups," confirming this essential amenity that many modern campers require.
-
On-Site Laundry Facilities: The presence of a laundry room is a significant highlight, especially for those planning extended stays or even month-long visits, as evidenced by a review where campers stayed for a month and a half. This amenity greatly enhances the comfort and practicality of long-term RV living, allowing guests to manage their clothing needs without leaving the park.
-
Availability of Public Restrooms and Showers: Despite some noted maintenance issues, the existence of "2 public restrooms with showers" provides a necessary service. For campers whose RVs might have limited bathroom facilities or who prefer to use communal options, having these available on-site is a valuable feature.
-
One of Few Options in the Huntington Area with Amenities: A crucial highlight, especially for West Virginia locals, is that Jim's Camping fills a gap in the market. As a reviewer noted, "There's not a lot of RV park options in the Huntington area especially with amenities." This positions Jim's Camping as a go-to choice for those specifically needing an RV park with functional services in a region where such options are scarce. It provides "what one would need" for a practical stay.
-
Suitable for Extended Stays: The campground's ability to accommodate stays of "a month and a half" suggests it is set up for longer-term residents, offering a more stable base than many transient campgrounds. This is beneficial for those working in the area, or simply needing a longer duration for their travels.
-
Convenient Location on US-60: Its direct placement on a major highway, US-60, makes it easily accessible for travelers. While contributing to noise, it also means straightforward navigation and proximity to local services in Milton, as well as a relatively easy drive to larger cities like Huntington and Charleston.
While potential visitors should be aware of the "noisy" environment and past concerns about restroom cleanliness, these highlights emphasize that Jim's Camping provides critical functional amenities that are hard to find elsewhere in the immediate Huntington area, making it a pragmatic choice for many West Virginia RVers.
Based on the provided customer reviews, there are no explicitly stated promotions or special offers currently advertised for Jim's Camping. However, the review mentions a significant financial adjustment regarding a deposit and subsequent negotiation of stay length, which suggests that pricing and terms might be subject to direct discussion with the management.
The experience described by the customer regarding a "month and a half" stay and the subsequent request for a "$100 deposit" after payment, which they then "stayed the extra days to use the $100 up," indicates that:
-
Monthly Rates are Offered: It is clear that Jim's Camping accommodates long-term stays, specifically monthly arrangements, which often come at a discounted rate compared to daily or weekly rates. This could be considered a form of "special offer" for extended visits.
-
Deposit Policies May Vary or Be Introduced: The situation with the unexpected deposit suggests that policies, including those related to security deposits, might be flexible, or perhaps introduced after initial discussions. This highlights the importance of clarifying all financial terms upfront.
Given the nature of the reviews, particularly the financial anecdote, it is highly advisable for any prospective camper, especially those planning a longer stay, to directly contact Jim's Camping to inquire about their current rates, any available discounts for extended periods, and crucially, a full disclosure of all required deposits or fees upfront. This will help prevent any "learning experience" related to unexpected charges and ensure a clear understanding of the financial commitment before arrival.
For those considering a stay at Jim's Camping or needing to clarify any details, direct communication with the campground management is the most effective approach. Given the nuanced information from customer reviews, speaking directly with them about rates, policies, and current facility conditions is particularly important.

Jim's Camping, located conveniently in Milton, WV, stands as a suitable option for certain West Virginia locals, particularly those who prioritize essential RV amenities and proximity to the Huntington area over a serene, secluded camping experience. While the campground has received mixed reviews, its practical offerings fill a specific niche in the local market, making it a viable choice for a variety of West Virginia RVers.
One of the most compelling reasons for locals to consider Jim's Camping is its provision of full hookups. For those with RVs and travel trailers, having direct access to water, electricity, and sewer at their site is a non-negotiable convenience. This allows for comfortable, self-contained living, especially for extended stays, which the campground clearly accommodates. The presence of on-site laundry facilities further enhances this practicality, offering a significant advantage for those needing to manage daily life while on the road or settled for a longer period. As one reviewer noted, "They do offer what one would need," and in an area where RV park options with these amenities are scarce, Jim's Camping fulfills a critical demand.
Its location on US-60 in Milton is another key factor for local suitability. While it contributes to some noise, it also ensures easy accessibility for those traveling within West Virginia. For residents needing to be close to Huntington for work, family visits, or access to larger city amenities like shopping and medical facilities, Jim's Camping provides a pragmatic base. It serves as a necessary stop for those who find "no options whatsoever" closer to Huntington that offer the required hookups. This strategic positioning means less time spent navigating winding roads and more time enjoying their stay or attending to their local affairs.
Furthermore, for those who value efficiency and functionality over pristine aesthetics or a vibrant social scene (as one reviewer noted, "everyone kept to themselves which was fine"), Jim's Camping delivers on its core promise. It’s a functional place to park your RV, utilize necessary services, and get on with your plans in the West Virginia region. While previous concerns about deposits and maintenance suggest the importance of clear communication upfront, the fundamental amenities it offers make it a practical solution for many West Virginia RV owners seeking a convenient and equipped spot in the Milton/Huntington corridor. For the pragmatic local RVer, Jim's Camping provides a necessary and useful service in an area where options are limited.
Customer Reviews
My husband and I stayed for a month and a half. We were wanting closer to Huntington but there is no options whatsoever. They do have full hook ups. 2 public restrooms with showers and a laundry room. Biggest issue called for price then a week later after paid for the month wanted $100 deposit. Didn't see getting that back so stayed the extra days to use the $100 up. Another learning experience. What if I didn't have the extra $100? It's OK but choice was to either stay there or not .if your looking for a friendly rv park everyone kept to themselves which was fine. It's a rather noisy rv park. There's not alot of rv park options in the Huntington area especially with amenities which i stated earlier. They do offer what one would need. You definitely need a water regulator here.
Do not visit this campsite. The attendant is rude and the site was dramatically overpriced. Showers were dirty and one was broken. Loud train ran through the night. If you can avoid, absolutely do. Would rather sleep in a car park
Here on work for a month, the manager went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible they opened up the lower bathhouse for me an allowed me to set up down by the river thanks!
I like the place peaceful and has complete amenities…we’ve been here for almost 3 years and still wanting to stay..the play ground is clean and safe for the kids the restrooms is just fine one thing I love is dogs had area to walk and play..the manager always there to address whatever your concern
This is a nice place to park! Really nice owners. Nice view of the river and a small mountain. Close to shopping
