This address places it directly within the expansive McFarland Park, which spans along the scenic banks of the Tennessee River in Florence. The campground’s setting offers convenient access to both natural beauty and urban amenities.

Being part of McFarland Park means easy accessibility from major roads within Florence and the surrounding Shoals area, including Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia. The campground is just a short drive from downtown Florence, allowing campers to quickly reach a variety of dining options, retail stores, and local attractions such as the University of North Alabama, the Florence Indian Mound and Museum, and the vibrant arts and culture scene that defines the city. While the internal layout of the park is generally easy to navigate, some campers note that the placement of utility hookups (sewer, water, and electric) on individual sites can sometimes be a bit unconventional, requiring some adjustment for optimal hookup. Despite this, the overall accessibility to and from the park, coupled with its serene riverside location, makes it a highly convenient and desirable spot for RVers exploring the Alabama landscape. The Jim Spain Drive entrance is clearly marked, guiding visitors directly to the campground area within the larger park.

Services Offered

  • Complimentary WiFi (Hotspot Upgrade): While not standard, the park offers a WiFi upgrade, which is typically provided via a hotspot. This allows for basic internet connectivity for emails and Browse.

  • Bathhouse Facilities: Restrooms and shower facilities are available. While they are noted as older, the camp hosts have plans for future updates to these areas, indicating a commitment to improving guest comfort.

  • Playground and Pavilion: Within the campground area, there’s a nice little playground for children and a pavilion, sometimes featuring a fireplace, perfect for gatherings and relaxation.

  • Quiet Hours: The park maintains quiet hours, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep for all guests.

Features / Highlights

McFarland Park Campground, while emphasizing functionality, boasts several features and highlights that enhance the camping experience, particularly due to its location within the larger McFarland Park:

  • Prime Riverside Location: Situated directly on the Tennessee River, the campground offers scenic views and immediate access to various water-based activities like fishing, boating, and kayaking. It's a true advantage for water enthusiasts.

  • Access to McFarland Park Amenities: Campers have full access to the extensive amenities of the surrounding McFarland Park, which include:

    • Paved walking and jogging trails, ideal for exercise and enjoying the riverfront.

    • An 18-hole disc golf course, a popular attraction for enthusiasts.

    • Multiple playgrounds for children, ensuring family-friendly entertainment.

    • Picnic areas and shelters, perfect for day use or group gatherings.

    • A marina with boat ramps, providing convenient access to the river.

  • Proximity to Downtown Florence: The campground's close proximity to downtown Florence (a short drive) allows for easy exploration of the city's unique shops, restaurants, cultural sites, and historical attractions.

  • Pet-Friendly Environment: Pets are welcome, making it a suitable destination for those traveling with their furry companions (with standard leash and cleanup rules applying).

  • Continuous Improvement Plans: While some facilities are older, the camp hosts confirm that updates, particularly to the bathhouses, are in the planning stages, indicating a commitment to ongoing enhancement for guests.

  • Low Elevation Sites: Certain sites, like site 108, are noted for being at a lower elevation, which can lead to standing water after heavy rains. Campers should inquire about site elevations if this is a concern for their visit.

  • Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: Despite being in a city park, the campground maintains a generally quiet atmosphere, especially during quiet hours, contributing to a restful stay.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a municipal campground operated by the City of Florence Parks and Recreation Department, McFarland Park Campground typically maintains a consistent and affordable pricing structure rather than frequent promotional offers common in private resorts. However, campers can benefit from the inherent value provided:

  • Competitive Daily Rates: The campground is known for its budget-friendly daily rates, especially considering the full hookups and access to the extensive amenities of McFarland Park. This continuous low pricing acts as an ongoing value proposition.

  • Extended Stay Options: While there are rules regarding maximum stay limits (e.g., 21 days from May-August), the ability to stay for extended periods at a reasonable rate outside of peak season can be considered a benefit for long-term campers.

  • No Tent Camping (with caveats): While dedicated tent camping sites have been phased out due to past issues, the allowance of a children's tent at an RV site provides a form of family-friendly flexibility, rather than a direct promotion.

For the most accurate and current information on specific rates, any seasonal discounts (though less common for municipal parks), or long-term stay policies, it is always best to contact McFarland Park Campground directly using the provided phone number. They will be able to offer the most up-to-date details for your planned visit.

Nice campground. It’s not 5 star by any means but it is functional as a place to park your camper with full hook ups. However, the sewer, water and electric are oddly placed in relation to the actual campsite. Water pressure good, electric tests ok with our surge protector. No cable. They do offer WiFi upgrade, I think it is just a hotspot. The bathhouse is so old and out of date we didn’t use it at all. Time for updating years ago. Camp host said updating is in the plans. Nice little playground and pavilion with fire place in the campground area. Our site, 108 seems to be the lowest elevation in the park and and water after rains is 6 inches deep at the water hydrant and sewer drain. Camp hosts and employees super friendly and helpful. Again, we will visit and stay again. Park was quiet after quiet hours and we slept ok.

Beautiful park and location. Rules have changed recently. Online reservations only, no longer first come, first served. Tent camping is no longer allowed other than having a tent for children at your site with your RV. Some have asked why tent camping was stopped. The only answer I have (unofficially) is that there were more and more problems with homeless people. I witnessed this first hand. The campground does need some work. The powers that be have been promising to do a complete makeover, but it that remains to be seen. I live locally and enjoy camping here. I recommend this campground.

Great campground. Spaced ok. Bathrooms need TLC. Laundry needs TLC. Management allows 20 day stays with 2 days out then another 20 days. The homeless are abusing the system. Good luck getting a spot during high season. It's first come, first serve.

You have a river behind and in front. First come first served. Lots are spacious with stone picnic tables. We enjoyed being by the river. The campground does shut down the gate after 11pm without anyone managing it which sucks otherwise of have given it a 5 star.

Nothing on the website/ brochure/ camp ground signage said that Primitive Camping is no longer available throughout the entire park. So when I arrived at dusk on a Sunday night after a long 12 hour drive, I set up camp. We built a fire, ate a meal, and went to bed. 1030 a trooper woke us from our sleep with blaring lights and through a speaker told us to “abandon our post. “ Who says that, nerd? Update your signs! The website said the camp office was open til 8. We got there at 7. No one was around. And what respectable camp site does NOT have tent camping? You have ALL of that river real estate and no one can use it. Like me, who is touring this great nation and the park can’t provide me a place just because I don’t have a CAMPER. SHAME!
