  • Diverse Campsite Options: The campground offers a variety of site types to accommodate different camping preferences. These include RV sites with varying hookup options (full hookups, water/electric only, 50 amp service available), often featuring pull-through access for larger rigs. Deluxe patio sites are also available, providing additional comforts like outdoor furniture and a fire ring. Tent sites are also provided for those who prefer traditional tent camping.

  • Camping Cabins and Deluxe Cabins: For those seeking a more comfortable stay without an RV, the campground offers both Camping Cabins (basic, often without private baths or kitchens, requiring campers to bring their own bedding) and Deluxe Cabins (which often include private bathrooms, kitchenettes with microwaves and mini-fridges, air conditioning, and provided linens).

  • Heated Indoor Swimming Pool: A significant amenity, particularly valuable in Minnesota's varied climate, is the large, heated indoor swimming pool. This allows for swimming and water play regardless of the outside weather.

  • Restrooms and Showers: Clean and well-maintained restroom and shower facilities are provided for all campers.

  • Laundry Facilities: On-site laundry facilities are available, offering convenience for longer stays or cleaning up after outdoor activities.

  • Camp Store/Gift Shop: A well-stocked camp store is available, offering essential grocery items, snacks, cold drinks, ice, bundled firewood, and a selection of gifts or souvenirs.

For the most current and detailed information on services, specific availability, and any associated fees, direct contact with the campground is always recommended.

The Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday offers several appealing features and highlights that draw campers, alongside some areas where public feedback indicates room for improvement.

  • Indoor Heated Swimming Pool: A major draw, particularly in Minnesota's climate, is the large, heated indoor swimming pool. This amenity provides a year-round option for water recreation, regardless of the weather outside. Many families highlight this as a favorite feature.

  • Family-Friendly Activities: The campground offers a range of activities designed for all ages, including playgrounds, mini golf, and organized events like hayrides and crafts. This focus on family entertainment makes it a popular choice for vacations with children.

  • Diverse Accommodation Options: With large, shady RV sites (including pull-through and deluxe patio options), as well as air-conditioned Camping and Deluxe Cabins, the campground caters to a variety of camping styles and comfort levels.

  • Convenient Location for Twin Cities Exploration: Its proximity to major highways allows for easy access to Minneapolis, St. Paul, and numerous attractions like Mall of America, Valleyfair, Mystic Lake Casino, Canterbury Park, and the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. This makes it an ideal "base camp" for exploring the region.

  • Well-Stocked Camp Store: The on-site store provides essential items, groceries, and souvenirs, adding convenience for campers who may have forgotten something or need supplies.

  • Pet-Friendly Environment: The presence of a fenced-in Pet Park and open areas for dogs is a significant highlight for pet owners, acknowledging the importance of including furry family members in camping trips.

However, it's important to also consider feedback from some customers:

  • Management/Customer Service Concerns: Some reviews indicate negative experiences with management, citing issues with rigidity regarding late check-outs, perceived lack of empathy during unforeseen circumstances (like mechanical breakdowns), and disputes over charges. Phrases like "belittle and berate us" and "KOA should review the management of this campground immediately" highlight significant customer service concerns from certain interactions.

  • Pricing and Fees: Some campers have expressed concerns about the perceived high nightly rates ("charge $90/ night and then tack on another $10 late fee for checking out late") and additional charges for pets, especially when combined with a perceived lack of updated facilities or activities.

  • Maintenance and Updates: While the indoor pool is praised, some reviews mention that "nothing else has been updated" (aside from a new park a couple of seasons ago), and some facilities might appear "tired" or "worn out."

  • Communication Regarding Policies: Instances where check-out times or late fees were not clearly communicated at check-in have led to frustration for some guests.

Prospective campers should weigh these various aspects to determine if the campground aligns with their expectations and priorities.

The Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday, like many KOA campgrounds, may periodically offer promotions or special offers, though specific, current public details can vary. These promotions are often designed to encourage stays during off-peak seasons, for longer durations, or as part of a broader KOA network incentive.

  • KOA Rewards Program: KOA offers a loyalty program that typically provides a 10% discount on daily registration rates at all KOA campgrounds across North America. Members also accrue points for stays that can be redeemed for discounts on future camping. This is a consistent "promotion" available to frequent KOA campers.

  • Seasonal or Holiday Specials: Campgrounds often have special rates or packages during specific holidays (e.g., Memorial Day, Labor Day) or for extended stays (e.g., weekly or monthly rates). The Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday website sometimes lists "Hot Deals" for specific dates or types of stays.

  • KOA Care Camps Big Weekend: KOA participates in an annual "Care Camps Big Weekend" promotion where campers who stay on a Friday night (often in May) can get the Saturday night for a significantly reduced rate (e.g., $20), with proceeds supporting KOA Care Camps for children with cancer. The Minneapolis Southwest KOA has participated in this in the past.

  • Early Booking Discounts: While not always advertised as a "promotion," booking well in advance, especially for popular dates or site types, can sometimes secure better rates or ensure availability.

Let me start by saying we will never be back nor recommend this campground to anyone. We stayed at this KOA 3 weeks earlier and had a good experience so we booked it on our way back home. We arrived at this KOA for a one night stay and planned to leave early the next morning. Upon pulling in, our wheel was smoking and after further investigation we saw our wheel bearings burned out causing us to be stuck waiting for repair. Once their recommended technician arrived, he had to remove our axel to repair the spindle, which was damaged from the wheel bearings burning out. We had no issue booking to stay one more night while we waited for repairs. The issue came the next day when the manager began trying to push us out and arguing and putting blame on us that we were taking a spot that had been booked prior to our arrival. She acted like we were an inconvenience and had control over the situation. (Our camper had NO axel and could legitimately not be moved). She was mad another customer had to be refunded (even though we were paying for the spot). She had no care or sympathy for our situation of paying $2000 for repairs and wanting to leave and only cared about losing $300. We were stuck with nowhere to go and she chose to belittle and berate us instead of trying to work with us. No manager should ever talk down to a customer and put blame on the customer for a situation like this. The front desk employee was absolutely wonderful and understanding and is the only bright spot of this whole ordeal. KOA should review the management of this campground immediately.

This koa has gone down hill. Have camped every memorial weekend (exclude covid year) since I was born. Indoor pool is great on the cooler or extremely hot weekends, but really nothing else has been updated (i guess the put in a new park a couple of seasons ago as well). Also going to charge $90/ night and then tack on another $10 late fee for checking out late (with notice), also charging pets is crazy, especially when you are already paying so much each night, for very little to do. Today i got a call about 115 saying I have to be out by 2 or they were going to charge me another night, why didn't they tell me this at check in i had to be out by 2. I had a wedding to get ready for but instead I had to hurry up and get all packed up. In my email to them I asked if it would be possible to have a late check out so I can keep my camper plugged in so my food would stay cold until after the wedding. They technically never gave me a yes or no answer but they still charged me for the late check out.

Staff was rude and completely unprofessional. They closed the office 4 hours before it was suppose to be closed and when we found out the pool was not open on that particular weekend, which was the only reason we came there because they have an indoor pool we asked for a discount and were told that theyd rather us just leave and give our money back. Right after I drove 3 hours to get there with my camper

Great place for our 2 night stay. Nice and quiet away from the highway. Only issue is that they have not prepped the sites with enough rock to level them and create drainage for the rain (which it does frequently) and our site had mud pits. All of our water, power and sewer connections were coated in mud and had to be cleaned to put them away. A little more rock and level grading would have gone a long way in making this a much better experience.

Great location, just 20 minute drive to Minneapolis, will be really nice once construction is done on the main highway. Very friendly staff. The pool and playground was fun for the family. Wifi and full hookups worked well. Nice, quiet, clean campground overall. I'm not going to take a star off for it because it did not affect my trip, but the spaces are a bit short. I have a 30-ft rv pulling a small car behind and it was a tight fit. I saw others with longer setups having a bit of a time fitting. But the staff was there to help them navigate and I had to ask a fellow camper to help me make the turn out of my site when I was leaving because everyone takes up the full length of space.
