Mountain Top Campground About
For Ohio residents seeking a tranquil escape, a place to unwind, or an ideal base for winter sports and outdoor activities, Mountain Top Campground in Zanesfield offers a unique and often-overlooked gem. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of this campground, designed to help local users in Ohio discover more about its serene atmosphere and recreational potential, positioning it as a prime destination for various outdoor pursuits.
Ohio's diverse landscapes offer a surprising array of recreational opportunities, from the shores of Lake Erie to the rolling hills of the Appalachians. Campgrounds across the state cater to every taste, but Mountain Top Campground distinguishes itself by providing a peaceful and well-maintained environment, often described as a "hole in the wall" location that many people "overlook." This very characteristic makes it incredibly appealing to those who value seclusion and a quieter experience over bustling crowds. Nestled in Ohio's highest elevation region, it offers not just a place to set up camp but a gateway to a unique blend of relaxation and active outdoor adventures, embodying the spirit of accessible natural retreats that Ohioans cherish. Whether you're looking to hit the slopes, enjoy a quiet jog, or simply reunite with loved ones around a campfire, Mountain Top Campground presents a compelling choice for your next Ohio outdoor getaway.
Mountain Top Campground is strategically located at 2 Sugar Bush Way, Zanesfield, OH 43360, USA. This address places it squarely within Logan County, a region of Ohio known for its higher elevations and diverse natural landscapes, including Ohio's highest point, Campbell Hill. Zanesfield itself is a small, charming village, offering a tranquil backdrop to the campground.
One of the most significant aspects of its location is its close proximity to Mad River Mountain. This makes Mountain Top Campground an ideal base for skiers and snowboarders during the winter months, offering convenient access to Ohio's premier ski resort. Beyond winter sports, the surrounding area provides ample opportunities for other outdoor activities. As one reviewer mentioned, it's a "wonderful place to unwind, ski, jog," indicating access to trails or open spaces suitable for jogging and other forms of exercise.
Despite its seemingly secluded nature, the campground is accessible via well-maintained state and local roads. Zanesfield is within a reasonable driving distance from several larger Ohio cities. It's approximately an hour's drive northwest of Columbus, making it an excellent option for a weekend escape from the capital city. Other major population centers like Dayton and Lima are also within a comfortable driving range. This balance of being "most people overlook" while still being accessible allows visitors to truly "unwind" and feel disconnected from urban pressures. The location in the 'mountain top' region of Ohio adds a unique topographical appeal, setting it apart from many other campgrounds in the state.
Mountain Top Campground provides services that cater to a relaxing and engaging outdoor experience. While specific details on every amenity might not be exhaustive in public reviews, the emphasis on being "well kept" and suitable for various activities indicates a commitment to basic but effective offerings.
- Campsites: The campground offers various campsites, though specifics on types (e.g., tent, RV, cabins) and hookups (electric, water, sewer) are not detailed. However, the mention of it being a "hole in the wall" and often overlooked might imply a more rustic or less amenity-rich experience, which contributes to its quiet charm. Campers should inquire directly about site features when booking.
- Well-Kept Grounds: A significant service highlighted by a local is that the "campground has, for the most part, never been a problem. Always well kept by nearly all residents/campers." This suggests that the management and the community collectively ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of the shared spaces.
- Access to Recreational Activities: While not directly "services," the campground's proximity facilitates access to activities like "ski, jog, and reunite with loved ones." This implies an environment conducive to these pursuits, possibly with open areas for gathering or trails nearby.

- Management/Host Presence: The fact that the campground is "well kept" often points to consistent oversight by management or hosts who ensure rules are followed and issues are addressed.

Customer Reviews
A wonderful place to unwind, ski, jog, and reunite with loved ones.
I have never been a guest at the campground but I do live and work in a very close proximity and the campground has, for the most part, never been a problem. Always well kept by nearly all residents/campers. Obviously there will inevitably be someone who seems to spoil the reputation for the other 99%... but in all, Def recommended for a "hole in the wall" location. If you want somewhere most people overlook, camp here
Very pretty campgrounds for this time of year. Without the skiing or the club there really aren't many activities the campground has to offer. There are no laundry facilities, the restrooms are subpar. There is a small activity room. Well room. Ot consists of four tables a microwave and a TV. The area around it is beautiful. There are many other things you can find to do. it's a nice place to relax for a long weekend. I recommend it but it's not fantastic. It definitely does not have that warm community summer feeling. In that area there is a large selection of other areas that I would recommend. Definitely schedule more activities away from the grounds.
Had a great weekend winter camping at Mad River Mountain Top. Camping sites are located conveniently at the top of the mountain, walking distance from ski slopes. Heated restrooms with showers on site. Colin and Kevin will ensure ur taken care of. Make a weekend of it and hit the slopes as soon as they open.
Very poor customer service. The shower house is unkept and dirty, with a broken window. Theres a few people who are running a sketchy LLC out of the campground, they will offer you free stays and anything else just to try to get you to buy a campsite. Be careful coming here don’t get scammed! If you do buy make sure to read the fine print!
