Introduction / Overview
For Connecticut residents seeking the quintessential family getaway that combines the natural beauty of the outdoors with the convenience of modern amenities and unparalleled access to the state's most popular attractions, the Mystic KOA Holiday in North Stonington stands out as a prime destination. Part of the trusted KOA network, this campground is celebrated as a "nice place for families," offering a year-round camping experience suitable for everyone, from first-time tent campers to seasoned RV enthusiasts looking for a comfortable base camp.
The Mystic KOA Holiday is much more than just a place to park an RV or pitch a tent; it’s an entertainment hub designed with family fun in mind. Guests can choose from a variety of accommodations, including spacious RV sites, shaded tent areas, and comfortable cabins, providing the ideal solution for any camping style. The campground is well-known for its dedication to a vibrant community atmosphere, hosting themed weekends and providing a wide array of activities that keep children and adults engaged. While its proximity to major highways provides excellent convenience for travel, its location near both historic Mystic and the coastal beauty of Rhode Island truly makes it a strategic and attractive spot for locals seeking an easy, amenity-rich weekend escape or extended vacation. The campground's focus on providing varied, clean, and comfortable options, particularly the popular "deluxe cabins," makes it a reliable choice for families throughout Connecticut.
Location and Accessibility
Mystic KOA Holiday is strategically positioned in North Stonington, Connecticut, placing it at the nexus of Southeastern Connecticut’s historical, recreational, and entertainment centers. This location allows local campers to minimize travel time while maximizing access to fun and interesting day trips.
The official address is:

The campground’s accessibility is a key factor for Connecticut residents. Located just a short distance from Interstate 95 (I-95), it is an easy drive from most parts of the state. This convenient access, however, is a double-edged sword, as noted in customer reviews; some areas of the campground, particularly the "Safari area," are close enough to the highway to experience "loud, constant and unrelenting" traffic noise. Campers are advised to inquire about site locations, with some guests noting that certain areas, such as the 400-series sites, offer a more peaceful experience away from the interstate noise.
The true benefit of the location lies in its proximity to major attractions:

This campground provides a valuable "staycation" option that appeals to different budgets and styles. The Deluxe Cabins offer the comfort and privacy needed for a multi-day family retreat, while the full-hookup RV sites provide a great home base for exploring the region. While some areas experience highway noise, this is often the trade-off for such an incredibly convenient location just off I-95. Just stayed here this weekend and don’t plan to go back. We camped here for the first time last year and it was great. I don’t know what went wrong this time but hearing the sound of 95 all day and all night was exhausting. We needed a break and it was the opposite. There were no nature sounds this time around. Also I’m not a fan of the map showing all the campsites being labeled by color. Yellow usually means cheapest but somehow we are charged more even though we had no hookups. My daughter had the hardest time falling asleep both nights. Were exhausted. I was hoping for a peaceful quick weekend getaway but that didn’t happen.
Sep 22, 2025 · Marzena BallouIt’s a nice place for families. We always stay in the deluxe cabins, for a family of 4 they are very comfortable. It’s nice to have a pool available, but it gets too crowded and hard to enjoy most of the time. The location is very convenient, you have close access to mystic, Rhode Island and the casinos. Overall it’s a nice place to stay for the price.
Aug 21, 2025 · Jade RosaThis campground doesn’t have much to offer besides 2 long slides and a jumping thing for young children. I do feel it’s geared towards younger kids (under 8). Other than that there’s no weekend crafts that are available to campers, there was one tie die craft available on a Saturday but it cost $15 per person or per shirt, which seemed ridiculous compared to many other campgrounds I’ve been with my children which usually offer a free craft or for a small price like I’m talking usually under $5. There was nothing else going on at the campground at all that was exciting or made me want to return. In fact the kids were so bored they wanted to go home before the week was over because there was nothing to do after a few hours of pulling in. However I did feel this was a very safe camp ground which made me feel good. They were not overly strict about letting people in but there was a guy that drove around in a golf cart and although he’s a little cranky I felt good he was watching everything and everyone that was there.
Aug 26, 2025 · Alicia StanleyWe stayed at this location for a long weekend near the end of July 2025. The staff we interacted with were kind and helpful, and our site had plenty of space. We booked this campground due to the proximity of the beach and a few other things we were doing in the area. While we appreciated the location, I cannot look past two major issues: 1. The pool and 2. the glaring mold issue in the women’s shower area. The pool water was quite cloudy and the bottom was slick enough that I nearly slipped. Let’s just say I kept my head above water and hoped for the best. We didn’t stay in the pool for long and showered right after. However - the biggest issue was the mold in the women’s shower area…specifically the bathroom building by the pavilion. There are two sides to the bathrooms, and my issue was with the side that did not face the pavilion. I was mid shower when I looked up and saw that I was surrounded by mold on the ceiling. I finished my shower as quick as I could and looked around at the rest of the bathroom. The ceiling outside the showers and along the wall was also covered in mold. I have attached some photos I took. The shower head was also somewhat concerning - wrapped in some sort of plumbers tape or something? The bathrooms and showers need some updating and probably some ventilation. We have stayed here a handful of times prior to this trip and I did not notice either of these issues during those trips. We love the area, but unfortunately we will not be returning any time soon unless we are certain that the mold issue has been addressed.
Aug 15, 2025 · A PWe had a great experience here. Right after checking in, they had a guide bring us to our site, and check in staff were very nice and accommodating. My particular site (D1) was very spacious for a pull through site. But it was a corner lot, so I got a little more space. The campground has all the amenities you would expect, pool, laundry, wood, ice, nice store, bathhouses, playground, Etc. My site did have an electrical issue but they came out in less than 5 mins and had it fixed. Customer service was great here. The campground was pretty big and fun to explore on the e-bikes. Especially in the back fields near the tent areas. Downtown Mystic was 15 mins away, and offered great restaurants and shopping. We stayed at a lot of nice campgrounds this season but this may have been my fave so far. The only 2 things I didn’t like, was people speed on the main road at all hours, so I wouldn’t pick a site along the road with young kids. And the street lights are blinding at night along the main road, which killed the ambiance of a late night fire. But was not a deal breaker by any means. We look forward to booking here again next season.
