Orleans Trail Group Camp is located on an Unnamed Road in Stockton, MO 65785, USA. This address places it squarely within the popular Stockton Lake recreation area, a well-known hub for outdoor activities in Southwest Missouri. The term "Unnamed Road" suggests that while it might be a bit off the main thoroughfare, it is part of a managed campground area. Stockton Lake itself is easily accessible via state highways, making it a viable destination for groups traveling from various parts of Missouri. Once in the Stockton area, navigating to the campground typically involves following signage for Orleans Trail recreational facilities.
The accessibility of a group camp is particularly important, as large vehicles and multiple cars are often involved. While the specific roads leading to the group camp may be less traversed than main routes, the fact that it accommodates groups implies a level of road quality suitable for larger vehicles. Its setting provides a sense of privacy and seclusion, which is often desirable for group gatherings, allowing for a more intimate and focused experience away from the general public camping areas. Despite its natural setting, the nearby town of Stockton offers essential services like gas stations and grocery stores, ensuring that groups can easily resupply during their stay.
Orleans Trail Group Camp offers a set of services and facilities tailored to the needs of groups, aiming to provide a functional and comfortable camping experience. Based on customer reviews, here's what you can generally expect:
- Designated Group Area: The primary service is providing a dedicated, private space for group camping, allowing multiple tents or RVs to be set up together.
- Shaded Campsites: Reviewers consistently mention the presence of ample shade, which is a significant advantage, especially during warmer Missouri months, providing a cooler and more comfortable environment.
- Fairly Flat Terrain: The campground features "fairly flat terrain," making it easier to set up tents and move around, which is beneficial for diverse group members.
- Centralized Camping Area: Many campsites are grouped together in one area, fostering a sense of community and ease of supervision for groups, with a few spaced out around the loop for slight variation.
- Flush Toilets: The availability of "2 flushing bathrooms" is highlighted as an "appreciated upgrade," providing a more comfortable and sanitary experience compared to traditional pit toilets, especially for larger groups.
- Fishing Access: While direct swimming from the campground may be limited due to trees planted for fish cover, the bank provides opportunities for fishing, as evidenced by successful catches.
- Basic Site Amenities: While not explicitly stated for a group camp, individual group sites typically include amenities like picnic tables and fire rings for communal use.
The features and highlights of Orleans Trail Group Camp contribute significantly to its suitability for various group outings. These aspects are often what make it a preferred choice for organizers in Missouri:
- Private Group Setting: The "nice private place to camp" is a major highlight, offering seclusion and control for group activities without interference from other campers.
- Abundant Shade: The prevalence of shady spots ensures comfort, protecting campers from direct sun exposure throughout the day.
- Good Fishing Opportunities: Despite limitations for swimming directly from the bank, the presence of trees for fish cover indicates a healthy aquatic environment, making it a good spot for group fishing activities.
- Improved Restroom Facilities: The "2 flushing bathrooms" are a notable upgrade, providing convenience and comfort that enhances the overall group camping experience.
- Adaptability for Groups: The layout, with most campsites together and some spaced out, allows groups to tailor their setup based on their needs for communal space versus individual privacy.
- Proximity to Stockton Lake Activities: While the immediate swimming access might be challenging, the campground's location on Stockton Lake means groups can easily "bus kids to the beach to swim" or access other lake activities nearby.
- Natural Environment with Wildlife Cover: The trees planted for fish cover not only serve their purpose for angling but also contribute to the natural aesthetics and potentially attract other wildlife, enhancing the outdoor experience.

Given the nature of group bookings and some feedback regarding communication issues (e.g., about specific room types or refunds in other contexts, though not directly tied to group camping specifics), it is particularly important for organizers to confirm all arrangements, policies, and accessibility needs in writing or via detailed conversation to avoid misunderstandings. This proactive approach ensures that your group's stay meets all expectations.
Orleans Trail Group Camp offers a viable and appealing option for locals in Missouri, particularly for those organizing large gatherings, youth trips, or family reunions. Its dedicated group setting on Stockton Lake is a significant advantage, providing a private and shaded environment that fosters communal activities and shared outdoor experiences away from the general public. For Missouri organizations, schools, or extended families, the ability to secure a consolidated camping area with amenities like flush bathrooms is a major convenience that simplifies planning and enhances comfort.
While the direct swimming access from the campground might be limited by natural fish cover, the proximity to Stockton Lake's broader recreational opportunities means that groups can easily arrange transportation to nearby beaches or other lake access points for swimming, boating, and other water sports. The flat terrain and abundant shade further contribute to a comfortable experience, especially for diverse groups with varying ages and mobility levels. The potential for good bank fishing within the camp area adds another enjoyable activity for participants.
However, it is vital for local organizers to carefully note the negative feedback concerning communication, misrepresentation (regarding accessibility rooms in a different context, but indicative of potential issues), and refund policies. This suggests the importance of extremely clear and detailed communication with the camp management when booking. For instance, if a group has specific accessibility needs, these must be explicitly confirmed and perhaps re-confirmed. While the "no refunds at all, no matter what" policy mentioned by a past customer is severe and should be confirmed, it highlights the need for groups to be absolutely certain of their plans before booking. Despite these concerns, for groups that prioritize a private, shaded, and functional base on Stockton Lake, and are diligent in their booking communications, Orleans Trail Group Camp remains a strong contender for a memorable Missouri outdoor adventure.
Customer Reviews
We took a group of kids over for a few days. It's shady and a nice private place to camp. Fairly flat terrain and most of the campsites are together in one area with a few spaced out around the loop. For our group, it was hard to allow kids to swim at the campground due to the trees planted along the shore for fish cover. They do serve their purpose though because my son caught some fish along the bank. We bussed our kids to the beach to swim. There are a lot of rocks and sticks, not as many grassy areas as some of the group camp sites. Still, it worked for what we needed. The 2 flushing bathrooms were an appreciated upgrade.
Do not stay here!!!! I called was told they had a handicap room, when I got there no handicap rooms. I am in wheelchair, needed it. Then my friend checked out a 9:30 am hour and half before check out they would not refund his money for second night which he ended up not needing to stay ( no refunds at all, no matter what) and now a week later I have a charge for another $100 on my card I am having to fight about! Don't stay they will take you for everything they can!!!
Thought we were getting a 2 room with 2 queens in each room (so they told us) air conditioner kept freezing up on us, badly outdated (as expected but...not this bad), outside doors wouldnt latch well π³ coffee pot didnt work, bottom of stove drawer kept falling off when we shut the outside door, there was "no" cleaners of any kind (as we were expected to clean dishes, floors, trash etc..) all before leaving! Oven hardly worked decks need rspaired, we so wanted a fire put, but wasn't allowed π absolutely would "never" stay in their cabins ever again! On the great side!... The lake is amazing!!! i would go to stockton lake again, but would stay at another campsight π βΊοΈ
We set our expectations low as it was a new to use campground. We where VERY pleased with the facility. The only less than great thing was it needed mowed pretty bad.
This is a wonderful spot for a group camping experience. It is always very well taken care of and very accessible. It also has very nice scenery.
