This unique structure fosters a strong sense of belonging, safety, and mutual support, making it much more than just a place to live—it's a vibrant, self-governed community where people genuinely look after each other. This article will delve into what makes Park Plaza Cooperative an appealing option for local Minnesota residents, exploring its location, the benefits of its cooperative model, and why it's a place where many choose to live for generations.
Park Plaza Cooperative is conveniently located at 1260 Onondaga St NE, Fridley, MN 55432, USA. Fridley is a well-established city in Anoka County, Minnesota, situated just north of Minneapolis. This location offers an ideal balance of suburban tranquility with excellent accessibility to the amenities and opportunities of the greater Twin Cities metropolitan area.
Its position in Fridley means residents have straightforward access to major highways, public transportation routes, and a wealth of local services. Nearby conveniences typically include grocery stores, retail centers, healthcare facilities, schools, and various employment opportunities, all within a reasonable commute. Being in the heart of the Twin Cities metro area ensures that residents can enjoy a quieter residential setting while still having easy access to downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul for work, entertainment, cultural events, and higher education. This strategic location is highly beneficial for both young families and older residents, providing connectivity without the direct hustle and bustle of city living. The address itself, on Onondaga Street NE, suggests a residential street within a developed neighborhood, contributing to the "safe community" feel often highlighted by residents. For Minnesotans seeking a well-connected yet peaceful place to call home, Park Plaza Cooperative's location in Fridley is a significant advantage.
As a resident-owned cooperative, Park Plaza offers a unique suite of "services" that go beyond typical mobile home park offerings, focusing on community empowerment and resident well-being.
Resident-Controlled Management: The park is "well-run by a group of residents elected by homeowners in the community." This means decisions regarding the community, including finances and improvements, are made by the residents themselves.
Affordable Housing: It provides "low cost housing," making it an ideal option for individuals and families seeking economical living solutions without sacrificing quality or safety.
Community Improvement Investments: Residents are "in control of everything from lot rent increases to community improvements," ensuring that investments are made in the best interest of those living there. This can include maintenance, upgrades, and shared amenities.
Safety and Security: The community is described as a "good safe place for young and old," where "people look after each other." This includes a culture of mutual vigilance and care among neighbors.
Family and Intergenerational Support: It's highlighted as the "kind of place where people watch each others' kids," fostering a supportive environment for families and promoting intergenerational connections.
Stable Living Environment: The cooperative model aims to provide stable living, with residents having a direct say in matters like lot rent increases, which offers more predictability than traditional rental models.
Community Building and Engagement: The entire structure encourages active participation and investment from residents, leading to a strong, engaged community.
Park Plaza Cooperative stands out with several distinctive features and highlights that underscore its unique value as a residential community in Minnesota.
Resident-Owned and Governed: This is perhaps its most significant feature. The cooperative model means that homeowners "elected by homeowners in the community" run the park. This puts residents directly "in control of everything from lot rent increases to community improvements," ensuring decisions are made in their collective best interest.
Strong Community Fabric: The community fosters genuine connection, described as a place where "people look after each other" and "people watch each others' kids." This creates a supportive and close-knit neighborhood environment.
Clean and Safe Environment: Residents consistently highlight it as a "Nice, clean, safe community," emphasizing a well-maintained and secure living space that contributes to peace of mind.
Commitment to Improvement: The resident-driven nature means "people invest in improving the community," leading to ongoing enhancements that directly benefit the homeowners. This proactive approach to maintenance and upgrades contributes to the overall quality of life.
Affordable Living Solution: It provides "low cost housing," making quality homeownership accessible for individuals and families, including those on fixed incomes or disability, as one long-term resident attested.
Intergenerational Appeal: The community is praised as a "good safe place for young and old," indicating its suitability for a diverse resident base, from families with children to seniors.
Long-Term Residency: The desire to "live for generations" and the sentiment of not wanting to "live anywhere else" after over 12 years speak volumes about the satisfaction and stability found within the cooperative.
Empowered Homeowners: The core feature is the empowerment of homeowners, giving them a voice and a vote in the direction and management of their community, which fosters a sense of ownership and pride.
As a resident-owned cooperative, Park Plaza Cooperative's "promotions or special offers" are inherently built into its operating model rather than being temporary discounts. The primary ongoing "offer" is the provision of "low cost housing" coupled with the unique benefits of resident control.
Unlike traditional rental properties where rent increases are dictated by landlords, in a cooperative, "Residents are in control of everything from lot rent increases to community improvements." This means that decisions regarding costs and investments are made transparently and in the "best interest of residents." This structure itself is a continuous benefit, offering financial predictability and a sense of stability that is often lacking in other housing options. The collective investment by residents in "improving the community" also acts as an ongoing "promotion," as residents benefit directly from the enhancements they collectively decide upon. There aren't typically sales or seasonal deals in a cooperative; rather, the value is in the long-term financial stability, community governance, and shared benefits that come from homeownership within a cooperative structure. For those seeking affordable, stable, and community-driven homeownership in Minnesota, the entire cooperative model of Park Plaza is its most significant and continuous "special offer." Prospective residents should contact the cooperative directly to understand the specific financial structure, any membership fees, and the process for becoming a homeowner within the community.

Dec 06, 2022 · Michelle DobbratzOur co-op is good safe place for young and old. I live on disability and need low cost housing and park plaza is that. I have lived here over 12 years and would not want to live anywhere else.
Nov 30, 2022 · Carlton DahlIf I had to choose between living in Park Plaza again or a dumpster filled with rabid raccoons, I would pick the dumpster. The place is poorly managed and simply a joke of a co-op. They are a fine example on how co-ops should be run. Sure the lot rent is cheap but there’s that old saying “You get what you paid for” and sure as hell you do with this dump. Place is simply a joke run by crooks.
Oct 03, 2022 · Stephanie SibleyMy friend live there and this park is not what is printed by the Management. First of all, they are out right LIARS, they do not take care of simple problems, they print garbage in their news letters and nothing is implemented, they cater to certain people, the park is not DIVERSE if you are an IMMIGRANT you are welcomed with all rules being broken. This park is ran by a so called modern DICTATOR. BTW, there is a waiting list for immigrants only.DO NOT MOVE THERE......YOU WILL BE SORRY.
Jul 12, 2021 · Wsdrbj JbrdswIt isn't decent looking Park doesn't really look like lot cleanliness is really enforced and as far as electricity in here it does seem awfully one-sided from what I see if 90% immigrants don't know if they're legal or not it's what I have heard you still need the game Park acceptance to live here if it's resident-owned why would there be Park acceptance shouldn't you just buy the lot but yes it does seem like there are quite a few immigrants in here like it would be an immigrant only Park the school district is not all that great it's not real close to shopping you may be able to walk to a gas station but that's about it
