Nestled on 24 unspoiled acres along this iconic waterway in Thornton, the Pemi River Campground has established itself as a premier destination for both residents and visitors seeking an authentic White Mountain experience.
Open seasonally from May 1st through Columbus Day, this campground offers a fantastic blend of convenience and nature. Note on Contact: Due to the campground's operation style, particularly concerning river conditions and limited staffing in the office, prospective campers are highly advised to be persistent with phone calls and to check the campground's official website or social media for the most current information, especially regarding river trip availability, as low water levels can cause cancellations.
Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for New Hampshire Locals
The Pemi River Campground is ideally suited for New Hampshire locals who value convenience, comprehensive amenities, and direct access to the state's best natural asset: its rivers and mountains. As residents, we appreciate the straight talk and the ability to get outdoors without unnecessary complications.
For a family from Manchester or Concord, the easy access off I-93 means less time driving and more time relaxing by the campfire or swimming in the Pemi. For the experienced outdoor enthusiast, it provides a full-service, reliable base camp to launch into the rugged trails of the White Mountain National Forest, knowing a hot shower and a clean bed (or bunk) await their return. The unique feature of on-site river rentals and shuttle service allows local families to enjoy a quintessential New Hampshire summer activity—tubing the Pemi—without the hassle of arranging off-site transportation. By offering a clean, family-friendly, and well-located option with a full spectrum of amenities, Pemi River Campground empowers New Hampshire residents to maximize their leisure time, connect with the nature they cherish, and create cherished summer memories right in their own beautiful backyard. It truly stands as a central gathering point for local adventure.
Drove 40 min to do tubing only to find a hand-written note on the door that read "no river trips until further notice." Anyone who stays up in the mountains k own how frustrating that can be when all the destinations are a bit of a drive. Had there been anything on here, or the website, Facebook, anything, we could have spent that time on another activity. I will say the person at the desk at least recommended a place up the road but advised it would not be worth it due to the water table.
Aug 05, 2025 · Jenn CyrIf, like me, you have been calling for info about tubing and getting the (full) voicemail, I stopped by today and found out that they are not renting tubes because the river is low. Looks like you can get a shuttle if you bring your own. Also- I heard a dial tone when I walked in and I think they’re just leaving the phone off the hook. So best of luck to anyone trying to make a reservation :)
Jul 26, 2025 · Marissa McQueeneyOwners are rude, have zero compassion and zero loyalty to returning customers. we had to reschedule camping due to a tragic family death and instead of transferring during rebooking, they refunded half and charged us for a full weekend when we rebooked. the card when rebooking was declined due to the card was replaced from many months before on the original booking. they just canceled the rebooking all together without notifying us. we showed up ready to camp and they were so unbelievably rude about the whole situation."you should be grateful we refunded you at all." We have enjoyed this campground for 11 years and brought many new people that have become loyal customers. We are beyond disappointed in the lack of compassion for loyal campers who are grieving and truly looked forward to a relaxing and fun weekend. We will NEVER book here again. we will never recommend to anyone. As fellow granite staters, we are ashamed of you. I hope you receive more compassion and just general kindness than you have given when tragedy strikes you. karma is real....
Aug 08, 2025 · Erin MartinWe went last summer and it was nice. Had a nice spot right at the river, kids enjoyed themselves, so did we. A bit too close to the highway, so traffic is what you hear ALL night long. But we wanted to come back this summer, despite the traffic at night.......however, I have been calling and emailing them since February trying to make a reservation and I have gotten ZERO response. I get that during off season you may not be taking reservations yet, but you should certainly contact people back and let them know that or once you are taking reservations......CALL PEOPLE BACK! Very poor business practices. My family and I have been sitting in limbo for 3 1/2 months, not knowing what we are doing for vacation this year. Now, it's just over 4 weeks until the vacation time requested, and we have no spot 😞 very disappointing. Definitely not going to waste my time anymore this year or any years in the future trying to contact them. Shame on y'all for being so disrespectful to your guests.
May 22, 2025 · Irene MoylanThere was a very rude desk lady who claimed that “it wasn’t her job to call us if there were issues with a card number we have on file.” I don’t know what her job as a desk lady of a campground includes, but apparently making phone calls isn’t a part of it. We arrived at the campground after a reschedule due to a family death to find that both of our campsites were unapologetically given away with the lady only saying, “it’s your fault for canceling a week before your camping trip.”
