Introduction / Overview
For New Hampshire residents, finding that perfect combination of genuine hospitality, convenience, and unparalleled natural beauty is the key to a successful camping season. Plymouth Sands Campground, nestled in the heart of Plymouth, NH, is exactly that kind of treasured local spot. Family-owned and operated since 1964, this campground is a long-standing fixture in the community, cherished for its unique riverfront setting and welcoming atmosphere.
Plymouth Sands is ideally situated as a base camp for exploring the best of what the Granite State offers—sitting perfectly between the breathtaking vistas of the White Mountains National Forest and the vibrant recreational opportunities of the Lakes Region. Its defining feature, however, is its incredible access to the water. The campground is situated on the Baker River, offering nearly a half-mile of private, sandy beach access that many local patrons rave about, comparing the quality of the sand to that of Florida beaches. This location provides more than just swimming; it creates a quintessential 'lazy river' floating experience that is a highlight for both children and adults. The owners are known for being "incredible—hardworking, friendly, and genuinely committed" to ensuring every local visitor feels welcome, making this a true home-away-from-home for New Hampshire campers.
Location and Accessibility
Plymouth Sands Campground is conveniently located at 3 Quincy Rd, Plymouth, NH 03264, USA. Its location offers a unique balance of seclusion and accessibility, which is highly prized by local campers. While slightly off the main thoroughfares, providing a quiet, peaceful atmosphere, it remains incredibly easy to reach for residents traveling on major routes, being just minutes from I-93. This central positioning makes it an excellent weekend destination for families from Nashua, Manchester, or the Seacoast, as well as those living further north.
The campground is strategically positioned to serve as a hub for regional exploration. It is minutes away from the famous Rumney Rocks rock climbing and hiking area, and just around the bend from the historic Smith Covered Bridge. Furthermore, the campground is gated and requires a pass for entry, offering an added layer of security and privacy that local users appreciate. Despite its rustic setting on the Baker River, it is still conveniently close to town, with a grocery store nearby for quick resupply runs, eliminating the need for long drives during your stay.

What an amazing campground! This was our first visit, and it was outstanding to say the least. The owners are incredible—hardworking, friendly, and genuinely committed to making your stay enjoyable. The lazy river and beach were a hit, especially with the kids. We had such a great time and can’t wait to come back!
Aug 04, 2025 · Russ OrteltFirst time here and we couldn’t have been happier. The owners are so nice and do not micro manage at all. They were very welcoming and available if needed. Campground is gated and they give you a pass to get in. Off the main road so you may hear traffic during the day but it’s super quiet at night. Close by to grocery store. The beach access was the highlight. The private access we had was amazing. The sand felt like it was imported from FL. We brought a canoe for the lazy river. They have horseshoes and a large bin full of play toys, bats, frisbee etc to use. Our site was spacious and private. Where we stayed a tree dropped purple berries and occasionally an acorn so you may want to expect acorns possibly hitting your car. Overall, our favorite campground!
Aug 23, 2025 · ROSE MCouldn’t recommend this place enough. The sites are cozy, the river is relaxing, and the people who own it go out of their way to ensure a pleasant experience! My husband packed the smallest tent in the world for my dad to stay in, and he just wasn’t comfortable in it. The owners offered a huge 10 person tent and even delivered it to the site and set it up for my dad! They are wonderful people and they have an awesome campground. We will definitely be returning soon (with a bigger tent for my dad 😂)
Aug 10, 2025 · Kailyn PappasSuch an incredible campground! Grounds are maintained, bathrooms & showers are clean and the landscape is stunning. We had a site right next to the beach and it was so much fun! Ashley and Nick were amazing hosts! We bought fire wood and ice and they were kind enough to deliver to our site. Absolutely coming back!
Jul 13, 2025 · Aisha ThompsonThis is what camping should be. The couple that purchased this campground (Nick & Ashley) are doing it right. In their 3rd year of ownership they have shown a true passion for creating a great spot which will continue to improve. Nestled on the Baker river this campground is a nature lovers paradise. The Plymouth downtown is only 5 miles away and offers so great dining and brewery's. Or sit back and take a lazy river 45 minute ride on the Baker river. I've included a list of some local places to checkout. Hope you have as much fun as we did. Can't wait to go back.
