Riverfront Park / Goose Landing About

For Illinois locals seeking an authentic and affordable camping experience right on the majestic Mississippi River, Riverfront Park, also known as Goose Landing, in Warsaw is a true hidden gem. This unassuming campground offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature, enjoy river activities, and soak in the small-town charm of Warsaw, Illinois, all without breaking the bank.

Riverfront Park / Goose Landing provides a quintessential riverside camping experience. Imagine waking up to the sounds of the river, with the occasional boat passing by or a train in the distance, creating a natural "white noise" that enhances the peaceful atmosphere. Despite its simple setup, the campground offers essential amenities, including water and electric hookups for campers and RVs, and dedicated areas for tent camping. This makes it a versatile option for various camping styles.

One of the most striking features of this campground is its direct access to the Mississippi River, complete with a boat launch. This is a huge advantage for anglers, boaters, and anyone who loves being on the water. Fishing is a popular pastime here, with opportunities to catch various river species. For families, the park also boasts a uniquely fast-spinning merry-go-round, a simple yet memorable piece of play equipment that provides endless fun for kids.

While some aspects, like the occasional litter (especially after community events) and the lack of an on-site dump station or shower house, have been noted by visitors, the overwhelming sentiment emphasizes the park's charm, affordability, and the fantastic experiences it offers. The "honor system" for payment, where campers deposit their fees in a lockbox, speaks to the trusting and laid-back atmosphere of this community park. Furthermore, the commitment of some locals to improve the park underscores the civic pride that aims to maintain this valuable recreational resource.

Location and Accessibility

Riverfront Park / Goose Landing is located at 1000 Water St, Warsaw, IL 62379, USA. This address places the campground directly on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River in the charming small town of Warsaw, Illinois. Its riverside location is arguably its biggest draw, offering campers direct access to one of America's most iconic waterways.

Warsaw is situated in Hancock County, in western Illinois, just across the river from Keokuk, Iowa. This means that while enjoying the peacefulness of a smaller Illinois town, campers are also within easy reach of a larger city with more amenities and attractions. Keokuk offers additional dining, shopping, and historical sites, including the historic Keokuk Lock and Dam.

Accessibility to Riverfront Park is generally straightforward. While approaching from the north might involve a steep hill, there is an alternative "long way in from the south" that allows campers to avoid steeper inclines, making it easier for RVs and trailers. The park's position right on Water Street means it's simple to find once you're in Warsaw.

Beyond the immediate vicinity, the campground is well-positioned for exploring regional attractions. It's close to the Keokuk geode area, making it an excellent base for "geode hunting" or "rockhounding," a popular activity in this part of Illinois and Iowa. For those interested in local history, Warsaw itself has a rich past and is part of the Great River Road in Illinois, a scenic byway that traces the course of the Mississippi River and offers numerous historical sites, charming river towns, and natural areas to explore. The combination of direct river access, small-town charm, and proximity to regional points of interest makes Riverfront Park / Goose Landing a highly accessible and appealing destination for Illinois locals.

Nice, inexpensive camping spot right on the Mississippi River. We had a blast enjoying Freedom Fest. Had no idea it was schedules and just showed up. We were treated with a free concert and an excellent fireworks show. Shared water, you might need a splitter and an extra length of hose to reach it. Also used two cords to get to the power box. Good price, but no dump station or shower house. The merry go round was the only play equipment, but it was the fastest spinning merry go round we have used. Tons of geese wandering around. Seemed like good fishing, but kids only got a large gar when they threw a line in. Boat access. One steep hill to get to the camp from the north side. If you go the long way in from the south then you can avoid the hills. The dump station is up the hill in town behind the water company. Only sad part was the garbage. There was a lot, both from the festival and from the boaters. I watched locals throw their cigarette butts down without a thought😢. If this was my local park I would work to educate people to not litter. We picked up a bag of trash, but there was just too much! This could be a 5 star gem right on the big ol Mississippi and some of the locals are working to get improvements made. It takes Civic pride amongst the community to keep a park nice though.

Perfect little camping spot facing the water. It is a small park, with maybe 10 camper spots (with water and electric) and an area for tent camping. You can hear the occasional boat or train, but it is nothing like what others have described! I am a pretty light sleeper and the "noise" was more just white noise. A camper with a generator next to me would have been louder (and I was in a tent). River access and boat launch across the parking lot and easy fishing access if you want to fish. There is also a picnic table shelter for bigger events or group meals. There are geese that hang around (hence the name Goose Landing), but they never bothered us in the least! It is an "honor system" type of thing, where if you stay, you just put your spot number and the fee in an envelope and drop it in the lockbox. I believe you can reserve spots online for longer stays, but we were were just passing through and needed a place to stop for the night. It was $10 for tent camping and (I think) $15 for campers/RVs with water and electric. Close to the Keokuk geode area for geode hunting/rockhounding.
