For many Minnesotans, the charm of a local camping trip lies in its convenience, its connection to community events, and the practicality of accessible amenities. While our state boasts vast wilderness areas, sometimes a different kind of outdoor experience is just what’s needed – one that offers essential services and easy access to local town attractions. This is where the RV/Camping site at the Rice County Fairgrounds in Faribault comes into its own. It presents a unique and practical option for those looking for a functional base for their adventures, whether attending a fairground event or simply exploring the Faribault area.
Unlike remote wilderness campgrounds, the RV/Camping site at the Rice County Fairgrounds offers a distinct blend of utility and locale. It’s designed to provide a comfortable stay for RVs and campers, with a focus on essential hookups and a no-frills approach to enjoying the outdoors. It provides a solid option for individuals or groups who prioritize convenience and direct access to local amenities and events over a deep woods immersion. Understanding its unique characteristics, including its pricing structure and available services, is key to appreciating what this site offers to local Minnesotans.

We'll delve into its specific location, the accessibility it offers, the services you can expect, and its key features. We’ll also cover pricing and contact information, ensuring you have all the facts before planning your stay. By the end, you’ll see why this Faribault camping option is a practical and convenient choice for your next local Minnesota adventure.
The RV/Camping site is conveniently located at Fairgrounds Dr, Faribault, MN 55021, USA. This address places it directly within the Rice County Fairgrounds, a well-known community hub in Faribault, Minnesota. Faribault is a vibrant city in Rice County, situated approximately an hour south of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, making it an easily accessible destination for many Minnesotans.
The fairgrounds are generally easy to navigate, with clear signage leading to the camping area. The primary camping spots, particularly those with hookups, are reportedly located near the main entrance, making arrival and setup straightforward. Guests have noted that while the spots are grass-based and some might be obstructed by trees, the overall accessibility is good for both RVs and travel trailers. Given its location within the fairgrounds, the site's accessibility can vary depending on whether an event is taking place. During major events like the Rice County Fair, access might be more controlled, and the atmosphere more bustling, while outside of event periods, it tends to be a quieter, more open setting.
The proximity to Faribault city amenities is a key aspect of this campground's accessibility. Visitors are just moments away from local shops, restaurants, and other services, providing the convenience of town life alongside their camping experience. Additionally, the presence of a city waterpark and a nice kids' playground directly across the street from the fairgrounds significantly enhances its appeal for families, offering immediate recreational opportunities without needing to drive further afield. For those who rely on mobile connectivity, AT&T service has been reported to be strong, offering 5G with full bars.
As a fairground camping site, promotions or special offers are not typically advertised in the same way as private campgrounds might offer seasonal discounts. The pricing structure is set, but it's important for campers to be aware of the rates and plan accordingly.
Given the price points, it's advisable for campers to consider the value proposition based on their needs. While some might find the pricing for no-hookup sites to be higher than expected for a basic spot, the convenience of the location and the upcoming dump station might offset this for others. Always contact the fairgrounds directly for the most accurate and up-to-date pricing, availability, and any specific booking requirements.
To inquire about the RV/Camping site at the Rice County Fairgrounds or to make reservations, you should contact the fairground administration directly.
Given the nature of fairground operations, it's particularly important to verify availability, pricing, and any event-specific restrictions well in advance of your planned stay, especially if you intend to camp during the annual Rice County Fair or other large events.
For Minnesotans, the RV/Camping site at the Rice County Fairgrounds in Faribault offers a distinctive and practical camping solution that caters to specific needs and preferences. It’s an ideal choice for locals who are seeking a convenient, easily accessible base for their RV or camping trailer, especially if their plans involve exploring the city of Faribault or attending events at the fairgrounds.
Its primary suitability for locals stems from its blend of urban proximity and functional camping. Unlike state parks that emphasize rugged natural immersion, this site provides the essentials – water and electric hookups (or basic dry camping) – right on the doorstep of community life. The immediate access to the city waterpark and a playground makes it a stress-free option for families with children, offering ready entertainment without requiring long drives or extensive planning. The upcoming dump station in July 2024 will further enhance the convenience for RV owners, eliminating the need to search for off-site facilities.
While some might note the grass sites can become wet after rain, or that spots can be close during peak times, the responsive staff and the overall utility of the location are significant advantages. It serves as an excellent jumping-off point for exploring Faribault's local charm, whether it's visiting shops, dining out, or participating in community events. For those who enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of a fairground, camping on-site provides an unparalleled immersive experience.
In summary, the RV/Camping site at the Rice County Fairgrounds is not a wilderness retreat, but rather a functional and convenient urban-adjacent camping option. Its practical amenities, excellent accessibility, and strategic location in Faribault make it a highly suitable choice for Minnesotans who value convenience, community engagement, and a straightforward camping experience for their RV or travel trailer.
Fairgrounds Dr, Faribault, MN 55021, USA
This would be a one star if it was not for the outstanding staff who were quick to respond to emails and phone messages. 2024 prices are $45 per night no hookups (crazy right?) and $60 a night for electric and water. I believe this is regardless if an event is taking place at the fair or not. Near the main entrance is a row of power and water pedestals that each service 2 back in spots. The pedestals are 16 feet apart. Fortunately we were the only ones there otherwise we would be jammed in like sardines. The spots are grass with some obstructed by trees. It rained during our stay and half of the spots, including ours, were underwater. Dump station is being constructed and should be ready by July 2024. AT&T was 5G with 5 bars. We camped at Rice County Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.
