Sandy Point Resort Campgrounds is ideally situated at 176 Sandy Point Drive, Knotts Island, NC 27950, USA. Knotts Island holds a unique geographical position, being a peninsula that is largely within North Carolina, though it's most easily accessed by land from Virginia. This distinctive location makes it a fascinating destination for North Carolina residents looking for a tranquil getaway that feels wonderfully remote yet is still within reach.
For those traveling from central or eastern North Carolina, reaching Knotts Island typically involves a scenic drive through northeastern NC, potentially crossing into Virginia briefly depending on the exact route. The primary land access point from the North Carolina side is usually via secondary roads connecting from areas like Currituck County. For many, approaching from the Virginia Beach area (VA) via Sandbridge Road (VA-615) and then crossing the state line onto NC-615 offers the most direct and well-maintained route, though it does mean entering North Carolina from the north. This route takes you directly onto Knotts Island.
Despite its somewhat isolated feel, which contributes to its "hidden gem" status, the campground is accessible, allowing campers to bring their vehicles and RVs directly to their sites. The benefit of this location is the unparalleled access to the serene waters surrounding Knotts Island, providing a tranquil environment away from the more crowded coastal destinations. While not directly on the Atlantic Ocean, the proximity to the Currituck Sound and its tributaries offers a different, calmer waterfront experience, perfect for fishing, boating, and enjoying the natural beauty of the sound. The peaceful drive to Knotts Island sets the tone for a relaxing camping experience, allowing visitors to unwind as they approach this unique North Carolina destination.

Customer Reviews
We have been coming here two years now, we usually tent but have rented the cabin too. If you're a nature lover this is a hidden gem. The sunsets over the water are amazing. The 30/50 Amp sites have been dependable to run our ac unit, and it's convenient that the little campground store is within walking distance and offers groceries and live bait.
The people that work in the store are really nice, but this campground needs totally renovated. Our campsite was on the water which was nice, but right next to us the log cabin was getting a new roof so we heard pounding and loud music for 2 of the days were there. That would have been nice to know! Also someone leaves well before 7 AM everyday on a loud motorcycle (the majority of this property are permanent residences). The bathhouse needs to be demolished and rebuilt and seems to be forgotten. Didn't appear to be cleaned the entire time we were there - a cigarette and ashes in the sink and the floor of the shower multiple days, mold, and smells. Wouldn't stay here again.
Paradise on the water! Rustic tent sites (with elec and spigot) literally on the shore. We spent 4 lovely nights here. Some wildlife, warm bay water to swim in, fishing and clamming and crabbing. No frills, but a great camp store and friendly, helpful folks. There are many long-term residents who value the quiet and calm of an almost-untouched natural place. Some are characters, all are amiable. The weather was a little rough but bearable. The area is pretty and the markets are wonderful !
Second time camping here. We will be back. Nice ppl. Loved the water.
We had a great Memorial Day weekend here with our family and friends!
