Shorts Trailer Park About

Hello, West Virginians! Are you considering an RV park or mobile home community in the Oceana area? Let's take a closer look at Shorts Trailer Park, a long-standing fixture in the Oceana community. This isn't just a place to park; it's a dynamic community that has been home to many diverse families over the years and is currently undergoing some positive changes, striving to create a better living environment for its residents.

We know that for many locals, finding a stable, community-oriented place to live or stay can be a top priority. Shorts Trailer Park, while facing its own set of challenges, is actively working towards improvement, driven by the dedication of its operators and the desire of its residents for a clean and comfortable home. It's a place with a history, a present of transformation, and a future focused on providing a welcoming space for its occupants.

As one resident put it, "It is a small to mid size trailer park that has been around for many many years and has been home to many different families in different sizes, lengths and shapes. It has a few people that own and operate it so depending on which place you're interested in is who you would need to contact, but just ask anyone residing there and they would happily point you in the right direction. There are a lot of the homes occupied but some are empty, the neighbors definitely keep an eye and ear out for one another even if it's too much of one. There is a lot of drama from time to time but hey, it is what it is!" This review highlights the long-standing nature and tight-knit, albeit sometimes dramatic, community feel.

Another resident shared, "At first this place terrible look like a garbage dump but Mr. Short is cleaning up the place well having people to do it getting these trailer that are run down out of here, it will take a little time but it's looking better. Now people walking up quit throwing trash down instead disposing like a normal human being would. We live here and the people would like to have a clean place to live. Crossing fingers that this trailer is next to be torn down cause this is what I see when I open my door." This powerful testimonial shows a significant commitment to improvement from Mr. Short and the collective desire of the community for a cleaner, more respectful environment.

This article aims to provide a factual, yet engaging, overview of Shorts Trailer Park, recognizing its evolution and its suitability for West Virginians seeking a place to call home.

Location and Accessibility

Shorts Trailer Park is located on an Unnamed Road, Oceana, WV 24870, USA. Oceana is a town nestled in Wyoming County, in the southern region of West Virginia. While the "Unnamed Road" might suggest a secluded location, it's common for residential parks of this nature to be situated slightly off main thoroughfares, offering a balance of privacy and accessibility to town amenities.

Oceana itself serves as a local hub for the surrounding rural areas. Residents of Shorts Trailer Park would have relatively easy access to local necessities within Oceana, such as grocery stores, gas stations, basic services, and potentially some local dining options. While the park maintains a community feel, its location within Oceana means that daily errands and essential supplies are within reach.

For those commuting for work or needing access to larger towns, Oceana is connected via state routes to other communities in Wyoming County and beyond. This allows residents to balance a quieter, community-focused living environment with the ability to travel for employment or more extensive shopping and services.

The park's nature as a "trailer park" implies accessibility for various sizes of mobile homes and potentially RVs, suggesting that the roads within and leading to the park are suitable for these larger vehicles. While the exact entry point from a named road might require a bit of local guidance, the community-oriented nature described by residents suggests that new arrivals can easily find their way with a little help from those already residing there. The address points to a specific, established location, despite the generic "Unnamed Road" designation, indicating a consistent and recognizable presence in the Oceana area.

Services Offered

Shorts Trailer Park, as a residential mobile home and RV park, primarily offers plots of land with utility hookups for long-term residency. While specific details about every utility and amenity are not publicly itemized, based on the nature of such parks and customer reviews, we can deduce several key services:

  • Long-Term Residential Lots: The primary service is providing spaces for mobile homes and RVs on a long-term basis, serving as a permanent or semi-permanent residence for families and individuals.

  • Utility Hookups: It is standard for trailer parks to offer essential utility connections at each site, which would typically include:

    • Electricity: Individual electrical hookups for residents to power their homes.
    • Water: Access to a clean water supply.
    • Sewer: Connections for wastewater disposal.

  • Property Management/Ownership Contact: As noted by a resident, "It has a few people that own and operate it so depending on which place you're interested in is who you would need to contact." This indicates that there are active individuals or entities responsible for managing the park, facilitating rentals or sales of lots, and overseeing general operations.

  • Community Oversight (Informal): While not a formal service, the review highlights that "the neighbors definitely keep an eye and ear out for one another." This informal neighborhood watch provides a sense of security and community support, where residents look out for each other.

  • Ongoing Cleanup and Improvement Initiatives: Critically, the feedback mentions, "Mr. Short is cleaning up the place well having people to do it getting these trailer that are run down out of here." This indicates an active and committed effort from the management to improve the park's aesthetics and living conditions by removing dilapidated structures and addressing cleanliness issues. This is a significant ongoing service aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

  • Waste Management Efforts: The positive change noted by residents, "Now people walking up quit throwing trash down instead disposing like a normal human being would," suggests that management is not only cleaning up existing litter but also fostering a culture of proper waste disposal among residents, perhaps through improved waste collection services or clearer guidelines.

Features / Highlights

Shorts Trailer Park, despite its candidly described past challenges, offers several notable features and highlights that contribute to its appeal and define its unique character as a residential community in Oceana.

  • Established, Long-Standing Community: The park has "been around for many many years and has been home to many different families." This longevity speaks to its established presence and its role as a consistent housing option in the area, offering a sense of history and continuity.

  • Tight-Knit Neighborhood Watch: A significant feature is the strong sense of community, where "the neighbors definitely keep an eye and ear out for one another." While sometimes described as "too much," this informal network provides a valuable layer of security and mutual support among residents, fostering a true neighborhood feel.

  • Active Management Committed to Improvement: A major highlight is the ongoing transformation led by "Mr. Short." The explicit efforts to clean up the park, remove dilapidated trailers, and promote proper waste disposal demonstrate a strong commitment from management to enhance the living environment. This dedication to positive change is a significant feature that directly benefits current and future residents.

  • Evolution Towards a Cleaner Environment: The visible progress in cleaning up the park is a key highlight. Residents are noticing and appreciating the efforts to eliminate "garbage dump" conditions, signaling a positive shift towards a more desirable and respectable living space. This ongoing improvement makes it an attractive option for those seeking an evolving community.

  • Variety of Homes/Spaces: The park has been home to "many different families in different sizes, lengths and shapes," implying a diverse range of mobile homes and potentially RVs are accommodated, offering flexibility in housing options.

  • Local Operational Contacts: The ability to "just ask anyone residing there and they would happily point you in the right direction" regarding who to contact for a specific spot indicates an approachable and informal operational structure, where residents can easily get local assistance.

Promotions or Special Offers

Given that Shorts Trailer Park operates primarily as a long-term residential community rather than a transient RV campground, it's unlikely to offer traditional short-term "promotions" in the same vein as a tourist-focused campground. Its appeal lies more in its affordability and community aspect as a permanent or semi-permanent living solution.

However, an implicit "special offer" or core value proposition of Shorts Trailer Park, particularly under its current management, is the ongoing commitment to improvement and cleanup. The current efforts by Mr. Short to "clean up the place well" and remove "run down" trailers, creating a "clean place to live," could be considered the primary "promotion" for prospective residents. This represents an investment in the residents' quality of life and the park's future.

Potential "offers" or considerations for prospective residents might involve:

  • Affordable Long-Term Lot Rentals: The primary "offer" of a trailer park is often competitive long-term rental rates for mobile home/RV lots, providing an accessible housing solution in the area.

  • Flexible Lease Terms: While not explicitly stated, some parks might offer flexible lease agreements to accommodate different needs.

  • Incentives for New, Well-Maintained Mobile Homes: As part of the cleanup, there might be subtle incentives for bringing newer or well-maintained mobile homes into the park to further improve its overall appearance.

For specific details on lot availability, rental rates, or any current incentives for new residents, direct contact with the park's management (like Mr. Short) is essential. The resident reviews suggest that reaching out to current residents could also provide valuable insights into any informal arrangements or community aspects that serve as benefits.

This place is on a huge hill so it's quiet for the most part and everyone is neighborly. It could be worse. It really needs cleaned up but they have got all the abandoned trailers cleaned up n gone so it's really changed the looks of the place now. If they would repave the hill and do away with the speed bumps cause they're honestly useless and patch some holes it would make such a difference up here. The trash needs cleaned up but other than that it's not as bad as some ppl think . If the thieves would stop it could be a nice place...

Very steep uphill long drive way that I am only too happy that I don't live there! On my few visits it's been unadventurous and the people are good folks.

Friendly quiet place where neighbors watch out for each other and help each other without questions or expecting anything in return. Nice place to live and cheap on lot rent.
