Location and Accessibility: Rural Charm with City Convenience

Springfield KOA Journey is ideally situated at 4320 KOA Rd, Rochester, IL 62563, USA. This address places it in a prime location that offers the best of both worlds: a peaceful, rural environment with surprising proximity to major attractions and essential services. Rochester itself is a small, friendly community, contributing to the tranquil atmosphere of the campground.

One of the most significant advantages for Illinois residents is the campground's strategic accessibility. It's close enough to downtown Springfield to serve as an excellent "home base for exploring the Lincoln sights," as noted by delighted campers. This means visitors can easily access historical landmarks such as the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln Home National Historic Site, and the Old State Capitol, immersing themselves in the rich history of the 16th president.

Despite its rural setting, the campground is convenient for travelers. While not explicitly stated as "close to interstate" like some other local campgrounds, KOA Journey campgrounds are typically located near major highways and byways for easy access. This ensures a straightforward journey for RVers passing through or locals heading out for a weekend escape. The "quiet, forest-like feel" praised by reviewers indicates that despite its accessibility, the campground maintains a secluded and relaxing ambiance, allowing campers to unwind after a day of travel or sightseeing.

Its location also provides opportunities to explore the broader Central Illinois region, including Lake Springfield for boating and fishing, and segments of Historic Route 66, offering a blend of natural beauty, history, and classic Americana all within easy reach.

We loved the rural setting for this KOA -- we even saw a few deer :-) We used this campground as our home base for exploring the Lincoln sights in downtown Springfield, so coming home to the quiet/peaceful campground after a day of urban hiking and hustle-bustle was the perfect ending for the day. We visited in mid-May 2025. If we are ever in this area again, we will definitely stay here. The showers and restrooms are very clean. We enjoyed meeting and talking with the owners who stopped by our campsite to say hello.

We stayed one night at the Springfield, IL KOA and were pleasantly surprised by how peaceful and beautiful it is! The campground is tucked back in the trees, giving it a quiet, forest-like feel — perfect for relaxing after a travel day. Our pull-through site was just the right size, easy to navigate, and very clean. The entire campground felt well-maintained and thoughtfully laid out. The on-site camp store was one of the best we’ve seen — well-stocked, tidy, and super convenient. Big shoutout to the front desk staff — the woman who checked us in was incredibly sweet and helpful, making us feel right at home. This was just a quick overnight for us, but we’d absolutely stay again. Highly recommend if you’re passing through the area!

What a lovely little KOA! Big rig friendly, and you can keep your toad attached. Flat sites, trees, space between sites. Big win. It is tucked way off the road, so very quiet. The road is narrow to access the park, but the KOA signage is clear.

We stayed here for 13 weeks...June - September. This campground is very nice and quiet. Totally off the beaten path down a quiet tree lined country road. You are literally in your world here. Great place to connect with nature. Pull through spots are spacious. There is a nice pool. We had a really nice time here and look forward to coming back!

We had a group of about 20 that stayed in 3 cabins and the tent sites. It was affordable and really nice park! The restrooms/showers were always clean and the owners were really helpful and quick when we had a problem with ground nests of bees that were in our site. Note that they are very serious quiet time begins at 10:30, they should consider moving it back a little later at least on the weekends. Also, no wifi. Overall great time!
