Location and Accessibility

St. Lorenz Churchgrove & Campground is conveniently located at 324 Churchgrove Rd, Frankenmuth, MI 48734, USA. For those of us in Michigan, Frankenmuth is a distinct and highly popular destination, famously known as "Michigan's Little Bavaria." This unique Bavarian-themed city attracts visitors from all over the state and beyond, offering unique shopping, dining, and attractions.

The campground’s address places it directly adjacent to the historic St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, which lends the campground its name and much of its peaceful ambiance. Its location provides easy access to Frankenmuth's main attractions, such as Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, Bavarian Inn Restaurant, and Zehnder's of Frankenmuth, which are just a short drive or even a walk away. Accessibility to the campground is generally straightforward via well-maintained roads in Frankenmuth. This blend of a quiet, natural setting with immediate proximity to a vibrant tourist town makes St. Lorenz Churchgrove & Campground an exceptionally well-located spot for a Michigan getaway.

Services Offered

St. Lorenz Churchgrove & Campground focuses on providing essential and well-maintained services for a comfortable camping experience, without being overly elaborate. Based on customer reviews, the services primarily include:

  • Campsites with Hookups: The campground offers sites with "Power water and dump station" connections, catering to RV and trailer campers.
  • Dump Station: A dedicated dump station is available for waste disposal from RVs, ensuring convenience for campers.
  • Clean Restrooms and Showers: A significant highlight from reviews is the cleanliness of the "bathrooms are very clean," indicating a commitment to hygiene and guest comfort.
  • First-Come, First-Serve Basis: The campground operates on a "first-come-first-serve" basis, meaning no reservations are taken. Campers simply "drive in and look for a space."
  • Tent and RV Accommodation: While "most are back in" sites, there are options for both "pull through" and "back in" sites, accommodating various rig sizes, and presumably tent camping as well on grassy areas.
  • Grassy Sites: Campsites are described as "grass" sites, providing a natural and soft surface for camping.
  • Reasonably Priced: Reviewers note the campground is "Very reasonably priced," making it an attractive option for budget-conscious campers.

Features / Highlights

St. Lorenz Churchgrove & Campground offers several key features and highlights that contribute to its appeal and distinguish it as a unique Michigan camping destination:

  • Peaceful & Quiet Ambiance: The campground is consistently described as "pretty and clean" and a place to "enjoy nature," suggesting a serene and tranquil atmosphere. Its location within a church grove likely contributes to this peaceful environment.
  • Clean Bathrooms: A major highlight for campers, the "very clean" bathrooms are a significant comfort, especially for those relying on campground facilities.
  • Prayer Trail: A unique and highly praised feature is the "Prayer Trail." This provides a serene and contemplative space for quiet reflection, adding a spiritual dimension to the outdoor experience.
  • Adjacent to St. Lorenz Church & Field: The campground's proximity to the "church has a large field and Playground just a short walk across the field." This offers open space for recreation and easy access to church-related activities or events if desired.
  • Playground and Slides: An on-site "Playground, slides" provides entertainment for children, making it a family-friendly camping option.
  • Unmarked Sites & Flexible Parking: The "spots are not marked well" which the staff indicates means it's "kinda just drive where you need to." While unusual for some, this offers a degree of flexibility in choosing a spot, allowing campers to find a suitable space based on their rig size and preference.
  • First-Come, First-Serve: While it means no reservations, it also means spontaneity for last-minute trips (though it might be full in summer). This suits campers who prefer flexibility over pre-booking.
  • Rustic Charm without Being Overdone: One reviewer noted it's "just a campground to enjoy nature... not overdone like the Bear (not that those campgrounds don't have their place)." This speaks to its natural, understated appeal for those who prefer a less commercialized camping experience.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a campground associated with a church and known for its reasonable pricing, St. Lorenz Churchgrove & Campground typically operates on a straightforward fee structure rather than extensive commercial promotions. Public information and reviews suggest a consistent pricing model:

  • Reasonable Nightly Rate: Reviews indicate a flat rate of "$40 a night" for sites with power, water, and dump station access. This is considered "Very reasonably priced" by campers, making it an attractive value.
  • First-Come, First-Serve Model: Since they do not take reservations, specific booking promotions (like early bird discounts) are not applicable. The offer is consistently good value, available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

It is always advisable to contact the campground directly to confirm current rates, as prices can change, and to inquire if there are any specific group rates or longer-stay discounts they might offer, although these are less common for this type of non-reservation campground. However, the inherent affordability is a consistent "special offer" in itself for campers.

Great campground. Power water and dump station $40 a night. The spots are not marked well and the gentleman said it's kinda just drive where you need to. Both rigs got in no problem 1 was a pull through other was a back in site. Most are back in. Playground, slides, prayer trail and the church has a laglrge field and Playground just a short walk across the field. I definitely recommend!!

Aside from the tornado sirens, this has been our favorite campground on our trip! It is pretty and clean (bonus that bathrooms are very clean, as we sheltered in them during the storms!! Lol). Sites are grass. Love that they have a Prayer Trail. Also a beautiful area for worship. It's just a campground to enjoy nature... not overdone like the Bear (not that those campgrounds don't have their place). Very reasonably priced. It is first-come-first-serve: you just drive in and look for a space. No reservations, though, and I imagine it's full during the summer!

Nice campground, $35 per night. Good facilities like a bathroom and shower that you access with a code you get with the welcome packet! Not all sites have a campfire ring but sites are first come first serve so you can choose. It was less than half full on a Friday night in July. You can buy firewood there for $5 for a pretty good bundle. Terry, the host, was super welcoming too. Prayer trail was fun.

2024 we are back again to our favor campground and town. Sshhh... Don't tell anyone about this nice campground. Sorry that we missed Gary. We are back again at St Lorenz Campground, one of our favorite camping places. Thank you Gary. Most sites have some shade. Short bike ride to downtown and grocery store. Camp hosts are helpful. There is alot to do near by. Your in Frankenmuth, and Birchrun is about a 12 minute drive. The campground its self if shady and peaceful. The lots are moderately sized some having elec and water. There are fire rings and a picnic table at most rv sites. They will hold a good size 5th wheel and car. There is a dump station on the property. You can also tent camp. The staff is really helpful and friendly.
