Introduction / Overview
For New Jersey locals seeking the perfect balance between a rustic outdoor getaway and a luxury resort experience, Sun Outdoors Cape May stands out as a premier destination in the heart of Cape May County. Formerly known as Holly Shores Camping Resort, this expansive property is nestled within 38 acres of beautiful woodland, providing a peaceful, shaded retreat that feels worlds away from the summer hustle, yet remains just a short drive from the region's most famous attractions. It is not simply an RV park; it’s a full-service family camping resort designed to accommodate a wide variety of vacation styles, from traditional RV and tent camping to modern “glamping” and deluxe cottage rentals.
The resort operates seasonally, generally from mid-April through late October, capturing the entire Jersey Shore vacation window. This well-maintained property caters to an all-age, family-friendly atmosphere, emphasizing secure grounds, clean facilities, and an abundance of on-site activities to ensure there is never a dull moment. The variety of accommodations, including over 300 available sites, ensures that whether you are pulling a large motorhome or simply packing a suitcase for a week in a cozy cottage, there is a perfect spot for your family. This resort offers the convenience of full hookup RV sites alongside unique lodging options like Safari Glamping Tents and Tiny Houses, defining a new standard for shore-area camping.
Visitors consistently highlight the great location, ample space at their sites, and the quality of the main recreational features like the heated pool and hot tubs. However, prospective guests should note the common trade-offs found in highly active campgrounds. While the park strives for cleanliness in its shared facilities, high usage during peak season can sometimes lead to minor maintenance issues, such as the occasional need for more frequent attention to bathhouse upkeep. Similarly, while the resort proudly provides free Wi-Fi, the quality and reliability of internet service in a large, wooded campground during a busy season can sometimes be inconsistent, particularly for guests requiring high-speed connectivity for work or streaming—a common feedback point across the industry, but one that warrants checking into before booking, especially if staying in a rental unit. Despite these small operational nuances, the overall consensus remains that Sun Outdoors Cape May delivers a fun, secure, and memorable Jersey Shore vacation experience.

My family and I had a great experience at this campground. Our site had plenty of space and was right next to pool and bathroom. The location is great, not a far drive from cape may and wildwood. The pool was clean and water was warm, hot tub was hot. It was very quiet and peaceful at night. The store was reasonably priced. My only complaint, The bathroom was a bit hot and could have used a little more cleaning, but it was usable! Would definitely return again
Jul 21, 2025 · Amanda CarlucciWe have camped here before in our pop up. This year we decided to check into a deluxe cabin (262). We arrived yesterday for a week. From the outside, it's nice. Inside, there's a smell. Like mildew. It is quite gross. The water smells horrible. You have to use bottled water to brush your teeth and make ice. There is a super small outdated tv in the living room and none in the bedroom. I like to watch TV before bed. My biggest complaint is the wifi. I paid $1900 for the week and the wifi is non-existent. Some may think this isn't a big deal but I can assure you, in the year 2025, wifi is necessary. If I pay $1900, I expect wifi.
Jul 28, 2025 · Megan DThis was our first time staying at this Sun Outdoors cape may location. we’ll start by saying we were surprised the campsite wasn’t cleaned before our arrival, and we were very disappointment with the size of the campsites, they are so small and everyone is wedged in, its so tight and everyone is on top of each other. We would have liked to see more family amenities and things to do, our experience in the sun outdoors campground in ocean city Maryland was amazing, so we expected a similar experience.also we were very surprised the staff did not enforce quiet time, there were several neighboring sites that were really loud late at night, we could hear loud golf carts at 2a with music blasting and young teens reckless with gold carts. we understand kids will be kids, we brought our own, but we expected rules and people to respectful of them. Obviously the location is great as you’re close to Cape May and all the nearby sites to see. However, overall our family and Family friends that we traveled with were not impressed with this campsite at all and will most likely not return, We have stayed in much more welcoming campsites for far less money and never asked to pay additional lock fees which we still don't understand since everyone was absolutely on top of each other.
Jun 29, 2025 · Theresa MurphyThe campground itself was nice and very family-friendly. However, the staff experience left something to be desired. We arrived early, not realizing the office didn't open until 9 a.m. When we called the after-hours phone for some direction on how to proceed with early check-in, we were told office doesnt open till 9am rather rude. While we understand that early arrivals can be tricky, we didn’t mean to cause any inconvenience—we were simply trying to figure out the best way to check in. A little more understanding or guidance in that moment would have gone a long way, specially since the person checking us in made sure we new we woke up the manager and she wasn't happy specially since she had been out late driving guest back and forth from an event.
Jun 22, 2025 · Judith CiullaThis campground was recently purchased by Sun Outdoors and in the mist of still making the switch over. However, you can see the money and the changes that are being put into the campground to be updated. At no point were we affected by the renovations or work being done on site during our stay. Our family appreciated the ease of arrival, the pool and the other amenities the campground had to offer. As you get further I to the campground you can see a slight difference from the front entrance as far as the grounds go, but with time we have faith! We’ll see you again next year!
