For RV enthusiasts exploring the vast landscapes of Texas, finding a suitable and comfortable place to park is essential. From the expansive West Texas plains to the lush Piney Woods of East Texas, the Lone Star State offers diverse environments for RV travel. Lufkin, nestled in East Texas, serves as a hub for many travelers and locals alike. This article aims to provide an honest and informative overview of The Covered Wagon RV Park, a local option for RVers in Lufkin, drawing directly from available public information and recent customer feedback to help users in Texas make informed decisions about their stay.
RV parks are specialized facilities designed to accommodate recreational vehicles, providing essential hookups and amenities to make life on the road comfortable and convenient. Unlike primitive camping, RV parks typically offer full services, including electrical connections, water supply, and sewer hookups, allowing RVers to utilize all the comforts of their vehicle. Beyond the practicalities, the appeal of an RV park often lies in its community atmosphere, security, and the quality of its infrastructure. Some parks cater to short-term stays for those passing through, while others are geared towards long-term residents seeking a more permanent base. For Texas residents and visitors, an RV park can serve as a home away from home, offering a base to explore local attractions, attend events, or simply enjoy a peaceful stopover. The quality of an RV park can significantly impact the overall travel or living experience, making it crucial to understand the specific characteristics of each location before choosing where to park your rig.
The Covered Wagon RV Park is located at 4510 W TX-103, Lufkin, TX 75904, USA. This address places the park along a state highway in the rural outskirts of Lufkin, Texas. While offering a quiet, rural setting, its proximity to TX-103 provides a degree of accessibility for RV travelers. Lufkin itself is a significant city in East Texas, serving as a regional center for shopping, dining, and medical services. Residents and visitors staying at the park would have access to these amenities within a reasonable driving distance. However, it's important to note that the immediate surroundings of the park are described as rural, meaning that quick access to conveniences might require a short drive. The location can appeal to those who prefer to be outside the immediate hustle and bustle of city life, offering a quieter environment. For RVers navigating through East Texas, TX-103 is a direct route, making the park relatively easy to locate and access. However, potential visitors should be prepared for a setting that prioritizes a rural experience over direct walkability to amenities, which is a common characteristic of many RV parks in less urbanized areas of Texas.
Based on the provided customer reviews, The Covered Wagon RV Park, under its new ownership, appears to be in a transitional phase regarding its services and amenities. While RV parks typically offer a standard set of provisions, the current state of this park, as reported, indicates some significant areas where expected services may fall short of ideal. Here's a factual overview of services, considering the feedback:
While basic utility hookups are available, the overall service experience, particularly regarding site usability and on-site support, appears to be an area needing significant improvement under the new management.
The Covered Wagon RV Park, under its new management, presents a mixed bag of features and highlights, as detailed by recent customer feedback. While some initial positive reviews exist, a more comprehensive recent review sheds light on several aspects of the park's current state. Here's an honest look at its features:
However, it is crucial to balance these with the significant challenges reported:
These challenges present a realistic picture for RVers considering The Covered Wagon RV Park in Lufkin, Texas.
Based on the provided customer reviews, which detail significant challenges and a new ownership working through considerable issues, there are currently no promotions or special offers to list for The Covered Wagon RV Park. In fact, the reviews highlight a park in need of substantial improvements, particularly in terms of site leveling, utility hookup accessibility, general maintenance, and safety. While RV parks typically use promotions like discounted rates for extended stays, seasonal deals, or new customer incentives to attract guests, the current public feedback suggests that the park's immediate focus should be on addressing the reported operational and infrastructural concerns before actively promoting special offers. Advertising discounts for a park described as having "extremely unlevel" sites, "overgrown" grass, and "menacing" wandering dogs would likely be counterproductive and misrepresent the current guest experience. Therefore, for The Covered Wagon RV Park, there are no specific promotions or special offers to detail based on available public data. Any potential visitor in Texas would be well-advised to conduct a thorough personal assessment of the park's current conditions before considering a stay, regardless of any potential future offers.
For those who wish to contact The Covered Wagon RV Park, potentially to inquire about recent improvements or current conditions, the following contact information is available:
Given the detailed customer feedback, it is strongly recommended that any prospective visitors or long-term residents contact the park management directly. During this conversation, it would be prudent to inquire about any progress made in addressing the issues raised in reviews, such as site leveling, sewer access, landscaping, noise management, and the presence of wandering animals from adjacent properties. Speaking with the new owners, Sid and Alicia, as mentioned in the review, could provide a more current understanding of their plans and the park's current state. For RVers in Texas, direct communication is vital to gather the most up-to-date and accurate information before making a decision about staying at The Covered Wagon RV Park.
Based on comprehensive public reviews, The Covered Wagon RV Park in Lufkin, Texas, presents a complex picture for locals and travelers seeking an RV spot. While under new ownership described as "friendly, kind and informative," the park faces significant challenges that impact its suitability for a comfortable stay. The advantages include its rural, small-scale setting, which offers a potentially quieter environment at night, and a wide internal road for easy maneuvering. There is also decent space between sites, providing some privacy. However, the reported issues are substantial: "extremely unlevel" and narrow sites that make leveling difficult and sewer hookups challenging, overgrown grass, misleading online photos, and significant daytime noise from a firing range and road traffic. Critically, the presence of "large dogs who will wander into the park and menace you" from an unfenced adjacent property poses a serious safety concern, and the lack of an on-site manager means immediate assistance is unavailable. While the new owners express a desire for improvement, the current conditions, as reported by recent visitors, indicate that the park requires considerable work before it can consistently offer a pleasant and secure experience. For RVers in Texas, particularly those prioritizing level sites, quiet surroundings during the day, and guaranteed safety from wandering animals, it is imperative to conduct a thorough personal inspection and direct inquiry about recent improvements before considering The Covered Wagon RV Park for a stay.
Quite and comfortable! This park is new & laid out well. Look forward to returning and seeing what's new!
Mar 17, 2019 · phil smithWe submit this review on behalf of our fellow wanderers, not to be down on the new owners, as of this month, Sid & Alicia. They were friendly, kind and informative, but oh my do they have their work cut out! First, there are 7 previous reviews, all very positive, and 4 were submitted by the same people. I suspect all were solicited expressly to put a good spin on the place. Secondly, the photo that comes up on the website is NOT this RV park. There are no picnic tables, and no trees in the interior of the park proper. (One side is bordered by tall pines, the other by a few trees, and an adjacent house, which does not belong to the owners). Very misleading! Another photo we saw, showing the entrance & sign & the park in the background, is this park. This is a small, rural, 25 or so site park, not all sites are inhabitable. The road is a horseshoe shape and is nice and wide. There is decent space between sites. The middle row is all pull-through sites, with back-ins on either side. All sites are EXTREMELY unlevel, (especially the pull-throughs) worst we have seen in our years on the road. We almost left, as we struggled to get level, but we could not find an opening elsewhere. So we made do. We also struggled to get close enough to the sewer; even with the extension. If you park far enough back, your back end is going downhill. Pull forward too far, your hose doesn't reach. (We watched others come in & go through the same thing, try another site, go back & forth, etc.) The sites are also narrow and drop off fairly sharply. The sites are more sand than gravel. (Whoever built this park put very minimal effort into it). It's always great to be told, "Come in and pick your own site," we love that! However, there are a number of long-termers who use the empty sites to park their vehicles! So, site selection is limited by that. There is no one on site to assist, no office. We felt a bit insecure at night, but we had no issues. Grass is patchy, but what there is, is very overgrown; in some places the weeds were nearly a foot high. It's hard to find a level spot for a chair outside, just honestly not very pleasant to sit out there. That was made worse by the horrible road noise, plus the neighbor who has his own firing range! (Road noise did diminish at night and was not bothersome then). So, during the day, there is no peace and quiet whatsoever. Another BIG issue is the presence of a very old trailer home just to the side of the front of the park. Though it is adjacent property, there is no fence. There are 2 large dogs who will wander into the park and menace you, especially if you are walking your own dog! We actually went and bought pepper spray, as one of them began to charge us as we were walking around (this after working for 45 minutes to get set up). So...lots of issues here, and scant signs of impending improvement, though in all fairness, the owner has a full-time day job elsewhere, and lives on the other side of town. They desperately need an on-site manager to work on maintenance & improvements. We wish them the best, and hope this little park gets better, but we would not return.

May 17, 2020 · Tara MorganEasy to access and negotiate. Price is reasonable with easy hookups. Nice place for a quick stop over or even longer stay, if necessary.
Dec 12, 2020 · David Nash classicalIt's a nice place. Quiet. Alicia is very nice and helpful. Be sure and call directly to make reservations. Don't do it online...it will cost more.
