The Old Homestead RV Park About

For many Missouri residents, whether you're a full-time RVer, a snowbird returning home, or simply looking for a stable and convenient place to park your recreational vehicle, finding the right RV park is essential. The Old Homestead RV Park in Goodman, MO, is one such option that might appear in your search for a place to call home, or a temporary stopover, in Southwest Missouri. Understanding the nature of an RV park – what it offers, its location, and the experiences of current and past visitors – is crucial for making an informed decision about where to set up your mobile dwelling.

Missouri's landscape offers diverse settings for RV living, from bustling city outskirts to serene rural locales. Goodman, a smaller community, can provide a more laid-back atmosphere compared to larger urban centers. While RV parks generally aim to provide a comfortable and functional environment for RV enthusiasts, the specifics of each park can vary widely. This article aims to present publicly available information about The Old Homestead RV Park, drawing on customer feedback to give Missourians a clearer picture of what to expect when considering this particular location for their RV needs.

Location and Accessibility

The Old Homestead RV Park is situated at 557 Olympia Road, Goodman, MO 64843, USA. Goodman is a small town located in McDonald County, in the southwestern corner of Missouri. This puts the RV park within easy reach of larger regional centers like Neosho and Joplin, and also provides access to the broader tri-state area of Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.

Access to The Old Homestead RV Park typically involves driving on well-maintained state highways leading to local roads. Olympia Road itself is likely a quieter, more rural road, contributing to a potentially peaceful setting. For RVers, especially those with larger rigs, having clear and easy road access is paramount, and locations in smaller towns often offer less congested routes. While Goodman itself provides basic local services, the proximity to Neosho and Joplin means residents have access to a wider array of amenities, including major grocery stores, healthcare facilities, dining options, and retail establishments. This balance of a quieter, rural location with reasonable access to larger towns can be an attractive feature for many RV enthusiasts seeking a blend of tranquility and convenience within Missouri. Understanding the local infrastructure and surrounding community is key for prospective residents or short-term visitors.

Services Offered

The Old Homestead RV Park, like most RV parks, offers fundamental services centered around providing a functional space for recreational vehicles. Based on the provided reviews, some aspects of these services have been highlighted by customers, offering insight into what visitors can expect.

  • RV Site Rental: The primary service is providing designated sites for RVs. These sites are typically equipped with essential hookups to facilitate comfortable living in an RV.

    • Utility Hookups: While not explicitly detailed, standard RV sites usually include electrical hookups (e.g., 30 and 50 amp), water connections, and sewer connections for waste disposal. These are critical for an RV to function as a comfortable living space.
  • Restroom and Shower Facilities: The park reportedly provides communal restroom and shower facilities for guests who do not have full self-contained RVs or prefer to use park amenities. However, one review explicitly mentions significant concerns regarding the cleanliness of these facilities, stating they were "disgusting" and appeared uncleaned, leading the reviewer to opt for alternative bathing methods in their camper.

  • Management and Community Oversight: The park has owners/managers who oversee operations, rent collection, and interaction with residents. Reviews indicate that the owners are perceived as "really cool people" and "helpful with everything" by long-term residents, suggesting a supportive relationship for some. Conversely, a short-term visitor described an "awkward" interaction with staff regarding check-in and site assignment, suggesting inconsistencies in initial visitor experiences.

  • Long-Term Residency Focus: One review strongly suggests that the park's primary focus is on "long term residence." This implies that while short-term stays might be possible, the services and community structure are geared more towards permanent or extended stays, fostering a sense of settled community.

Features / Highlights

When evaluating an RV park, specific features and highlights can greatly influence a potential resident's decision. Based on the provided customer feedback, The Old Homestead RV Park presents a mixed bag of characteristics that may appeal to some while raising concerns for others.

  • Community for Long-Term Residents: A significant highlight, particularly for those seeking a stable place to live, is the established community aspect for long-term residents. One reviewer explicitly states it's a "great place to live and a great community of people!" This indicates that for those looking to settle down in their RV, there is a positive social environment and neighborly interaction.

  • Supportive Owners (for Long-Term): The owners are described as "really cool people" who are "helpful with everything" by long-term residents. This suggests that ongoing residents can expect a supportive and accommodating management, which is a crucial feature for long-term living arrangements in an RV park.

  • Potential for Rural Tranquility: Given its location in Goodman, a smaller town, the park likely offers a quieter, more rural setting compared to RV parks in larger cities. This can be a highlight for those seeking peace and a break from urban noise, although one review noted disruption from a tractor, suggesting some localized noise.

However, it's equally important to acknowledge the significant concerns raised by a short-term visitor, which may be critical "features" from a different perspective:

  • Unclean Restroom/Shower Facilities: A major concern highlighted is the reported unsanitary condition of the communal bathrooms and showers. This is a critical factor for any RVer relying on park amenities and suggests a lack of regular cleaning and maintenance in these areas.

  • Maintenance Issues on Grounds: The presence of a "trash pile" next to a site and disruptive tractor activity points to potential issues with overall grounds maintenance and cleanliness for short-term visitors.

  • Inconsistent Short-Term Welcome: The "awkward" interaction with staff and feeling like an "inconvenience" for a single-night stay suggests that the park's operational focus might not be optimized for transient visitors, potentially leading to a less welcoming experience for those passing through.

Promotions or Special Offers

The provided customer reviews and publicly available business information do not mention any specific promotions or special offers for The Old Homestead RV Park. In the context of RV parks, "promotions" often include incentives such as discounted rates for extended stays (e.g., weekly or monthly rates), first-time visitor discounts, or perhaps seasonal specials. Given that one review explicitly states the park is primarily geared towards "long term residence," any potential offers might be more focused on encouraging extended commitments rather than short-term transient stays.

For Missouri residents considering The Old Homestead RV Park, especially for a long-term stay, it is highly recommended to contact the park management directly to inquire about current rates, lease terms for extended periods, and any potential incentives for new residents. Due to the contrasting feedback from short-term versus long-term residents regarding management interaction and facility cleanliness, it would be prudent for prospective visitors to clarify expectations and offerings that pertain to their specific length of stay. Direct communication via the provided phone number (417) 364-7669 or +1 417-364-7669 would be the most effective way to obtain accurate and current information.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Missouri residents, particularly those who are full-time RVers or seeking a long-term RV living solution, The Old Homestead RV Park in Goodman presents a very specific kind of appeal. Its primary suitability for locals hinges on its apparent focus as a "long term residence" and the positive community feedback from those who live there permanently. If you are a Missourian looking for an established place to park your RV for an extended period, potentially integrating into a community of fellow long-term residents, the park appears to foster this environment, with some describing it as a "great community of people." The owners are also highly praised by these long-term tenants for being "really cool people" and "helpful with everything," which is a crucial factor for stable, extended living.

The rural setting in Goodman, a smaller town, also offers a quieter alternative to RV parks in more bustling urban centers, which can be attractive for those seeking a more peaceful daily life. This can reduce the stress of city living while still providing reasonable access to nearby amenities in Neosho and Joplin. However, it is paramount for any Missourian considering this park, especially for short-term stays or if they rely heavily on park facilities, to carefully weigh the contrasting feedback. The significant concerns regarding the cleanliness of communal restrooms and showers, as well as an unwelcoming experience for a short-term visitor, indicate that the park may not be optimized for transient guests. Therefore, while it might be a suitable option for locals seeking a stable, long-term RV community with supportive owners, those passing through or expecting pristine shared amenities for a short stay should set their expectations accordingly or consider alternative options within Missouri. Thorough personal inquiry and a clear understanding of your needs versus the park's primary focus are essential before committing.

I called and needed a spot for one night with bathrooms/showers. We arrived I went into the office the guy with glasses started bugging out that no one told him anyone was checking in, it was awkward, I said they told me to leave money in the drop box. He said ok, I asked where our site was and it was like I was an inconvenience to be shown where it is. Well you can see in the photo I posted that we were next to a trash pile. Another guy kept tooling around over there with his tractor which was quite disruptive. Went to checkout the bathroom and it was disgusting I wouldn’t dare to use it, the sink looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in forever, the white shower curtain looked like it had black on it possibly mold I’m not sure I walked out. Bathrooms are not cleaned on the regular. We opted to take a sponge bath in our camper. We stayed here because we had plumbing issues and then couldn’t use the amenities. This pace is long term residence, I don’t recommend if passing through. $50 cash for one nite you would think the place would be clean.
