When contacting Twin Lake Homes, it is highly advisable to prepare a detailed list of questions regarding the lease agreement, the process for park approval (especially if you are purchasing a home), potential annual increases in lot rent, and any specific community restrictions or expectations. Understanding these details upfront is essential for making an informed decision about living in this mobile home community in Ohio.

Conclusion: Why Twin Lake Homes is Suitable for Locals (with considerations)

For Ohio residents considering mobile home living, Twin Lake Homes in Elyria can be a suitable option, provided they approach the decision with a comprehensive understanding of the community's operational structure and financial considerations. Its location in Elyria offers a suburban environment with access to local amenities and regional opportunities, which is a practical benefit for daily living.

The core suitability of Twin Lake Homes lies in its offering of mobile home ownership combined with land leasing. This model can be an accessible entry point into homeownership for many, potentially offering a more affordable alternative to traditional stick-built homes. For individuals and families seeking to own their residence without the full financial burden of purchasing land, this arrangement can be attractive.

However, it is crucial for prospective Ohio residents to heed the experiences of current and past residents. The most significant point highlighted is the "completely separate process" for purchasing a home versus gaining approval to reside in the park. This underscores the absolute necessity of obtaining park approval before finalizing any home purchase. Failure to do so, as indicated by a devastating review, can lead to significant financial and emotional distress. This aspect cannot be overstated; robust due diligence on the park's approval criteria and timeline is paramount.

Another critical consideration is the lot rent. Reviews indicate that lot rent can be substantial and subject to annual increases. For Ohioans on fixed incomes or those managing a tight budget, understanding the current lot rent, historical increases, and projections for future increases is vital for long-term financial planning. It's imperative to get these figures in writing and fully comprehend the lease agreement's terms regarding rent adjustments.

While the provided information does not detail amenities like pools or community events, its nature as an established mobile home park suggests a residential community. The focus on rules and "restrictions" from management, while potentially perceived as strict by some, often reflects an effort to maintain community standards, appearance, and quiet enjoyment for all residents. Prospective residents should inquire about these rules to ensure they align with their lifestyle expectations.

In conclusion, Twin Lake Homes in Elyria can be a suitable choice for Ohioans who are well-informed and prepared for the distinct aspects of mobile home park living. Its offering of homeownership in a community setting is appealing. However, success and satisfaction hinge on a thorough understanding of the separate approval processes, the financial implications of lot rent (and its potential increases), and a clear grasp of all community rules before committing to a lease or home purchase. Armed with this knowledge, locals can make a decision that best suits their needs and avoids potential pitfalls.

It is important for you to know that purchasing a home in this park is a completely separate process from being approved to move into the park. Your purchase can be approved and you are all excited but then you can be denied admittance. It’s unthinkable. It is truly heartbreaking and devastating. There needs to be a better system.

Legacy communities should be ashamed of themselves. $895 for lot rent for new people is ASININE. I tried to move in with my dad last year to help take care of him and wasn’t allowed to. He’s since passed and we are trying to sell his house. You can guess how that’s going. We now get to bleed his accounts dry paying the lot rent because no one in their right mind would willing pay that. They raise the cost every year so when that happens again next year it’ll be over $900. How do you sleep at night? Taking advantage of the elderly community and now the deceased is disrespectful and disgusting. I tell every person I can to stay far away from these people. I pray that no one is taking advantage of your parents like you are doing to mine and several others. Do better

If I could give 0 stars I would. My father lives here. He has health issues and really needs me to be there for him. I am not old enough to be able to move in to help him, even though I’ve explained his situation to them. Also we can’t sell his place so we can all be under 1 roof because the greedy new owners want $850 a month for lot rent. That’s for nothing but the land. No lawn or snow maintenance. No pool. I think I’ve see the “security” guard twice in the last year. And that’s not exaggerated either. They say the lot rent is comparable for the area. Highest I found for trailer parks in the area is $550 and that’s in Amherst. So not only greedy but they lie also. The manager they had was caught stealing. Doesn’t sound like a great company to me. These seniors are on fixed incomes. They should be ashamed of themselves charging that much. There’s 330 lots there. That’s $280,500 that they’re racking in a MONTH. Bleeding the elderly dry. How would you like it if some company came in and did this to your parents. Despicable.

I visited this place several times in 2015 and 2016 when it was family owned. It was reasonable priced and beautifully maintained. Back then lot rents were around $350. I just started looking for a new place and thought of Twin Lakes. I found a manufactured home that looked perfect and I was going to call to see about, until I saw $850 for lot rent! I’m 65 and on a fixed income. There is no way I would buy there now knowing it was bought out by a corporation that is raising rents that much each year. Especially with no amenities near by. Feeling sad as it used to be a wonderful option for affordable, nice and safe living in Lorain County.
