As a campground managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Modoc Campground operates under federal pricing structures and incentive programs rather than commercial promotions. The primary "special offer" for many eligible South Carolinians comes through the America the Beautiful Pass system. Specifically, seniors (U.S. citizens or permanent residents aged 62 and older) can purchase the America the Beautiful Senior Pass (either an Annual Pass for $20 or a Lifetime Pass for $80, plus a $10 processing fee if purchased online). This pass grants a 50% discount on campsite fees at federal campgrounds, including those managed by the Army Corps of Engineers. As one reviewer enthusiastically noted, they "could get used to my senior park pass waking up to a view like this each day," highlighting the significant value these passes offer.
Standard campsite fees at Corps of Engineers campgrounds typically range from $18 to $56 per night, depending on the site type and amenities, meaning a 50% discount can lead to substantial savings for frequent campers. It is highly recommended to check the official Recreation.gov website for the most current pricing and to confirm eligibility and benefits of these federal passes. While direct commercial discounts are uncommon, these federal programs provide an excellent ongoing value for South Carolina residents.

As one reviewer mentioned, "Most sites the neighbors are pretty far away. In some locations. You can't even see the next campsite!"
The presence of spacious pull-through sites, options for dual camping with friends, and even group circles, caters to diverse group sizes and preferences. While minor issues like ants (common in natural settings, easily remedied with bug spray) and a distant dumpster are noted, the overall positive experiences, highlighting the "beautiful campground," "friendly staff," and clean facilities like the "bathroom was clean," strongly affirm its quality. Furthermore, the benefit of potential discounts for seniors through the America the Beautiful Pass makes this already valuable experience even more accessible. For South Carolinians seeking a truly picturesque, spacious, and amenity-rich lakeside camping adventure, Modoc Campground stands out as a premier choice, offering a peaceful and memorable retreat right in their home state.

This is a beautiful campground! 🤩 The most unique feature is pretty much every campsite is waterfront! 😮 I've never been anywhere like this before. Usually I'm lucky if I can get something just near the water. Here your decision is which waterfront view would you like??👀😱 There's a limited number of 30 amp only sites for people with smaller campers like myself. The 50 amp sites also have 30 amp plugs but they cost a couple dollars more each night. Most sites the neighbors are pretty far away. In some locations. You can't even see the next campsite! So if you like to meet new people, this isn't really the place. 🫣 However, there are several dual camping spots where you could have a travel buddy in their camper in the other site right next to yours. Some of them even share an entry driveway. All of the sites are pull-through except a couple that are back in. And they are very large. I even saw a double site if you want to back two campers in right next to each other on the same site. And a group circle.😲There's plenty of room to park a second vehicle, some of them even a third vehicle, and a boat trailer! 😲All of the sites are spread out on three peninsulas. There are no garbage cans. 🗑️The dumpster is located up front at the exit. I also noticed the laundry🧺 was not operational. 🧐 The biggest issue I had was the ants! 🐜🐜🐜🐜, And they are everywhere, inside and outside crawling on everything 😣. It could be because of the wet weather ⛈️ Just beautiful.🤩 I could get used to my senior park pass waking up to a view like this each day 👀
Nice campsite. The staff was very friendly. It was a rainy weekend, so we didn't venture out as much as we wanted to. There's a playground and boat ramp. The bathroom was clean. The only slightly negative thing I can say is there's ants everywhere. Not fire ants, those little black ones. Make sure you bring any spray to keep them out 😁.
Beautiful spot for camping, nice sites, clean bathrooms, swimming area, reserve online!
So darn beautiful... The only problem was we pulled in for an in route one night stop, woke up and we had ants everywhere. And mean everywhere, even our tow vehicle was covered inside and out. We spent the next two hours try to rid the motorhome of ants. Ran out of spray and used bathroom cleaner for a bit. Then decided to get out of Modoc. We drove to pickup more ant spray and also then sprayed the toad. Drove to our next stop and spent another two or so hours cleaning and spot spraying. This was just too much to deal with. What can I say... Now We have seen others posting about ants everywhere at the campground. CUontheroad
What a beautiful campground! Large lakefront sites that are well maintained. The hosts were friendly but not intrusive. Bathrooms were clean but also the reason for getting only 4 stars. The layout of the bathroom has the door open straight to the shower leaving you feel somewhat exposed. Ants were not a problem since the host suggested that we spray the site prior to setup. This was a great site and we will definitely be back.
