Cedar Hill Campground About

Ohio's diverse landscape provides a rich tapestry of outdoor experiences, from tranquil forests to bustling lakefronts. For many Ohioans, camping offers an ideal way to connect with nature, enjoy recreational pursuits, and create lasting memories. Among the various camping options available across the state, Cedar Hill Campground in Leesburg presents a unique and perhaps more private approach to outdoor living. Unlike large public campgrounds, Cedar Hill appears to offer a more exclusive or community-focused environment, setting it apart for those seeking a particular type of camping experience.

Cedar Hill Campground seems to operate as a distinct type of camping establishment, possibly catering to seasonal campers, long-term residents, or members, rather than functioning as a traditional public campground open to all on a nightly basis. Customer reviews suggest a "private establishment" with a "gated fenced" entrance, implying a controlled access environment. This can be a significant draw for those seeking enhanced security, a quieter atmosphere, and a stronger sense of community among fellow campers. It's often at such locations that campers establish semi-permanent spots, decorating their sites and participating in community-organized events.

For Ohioans exploring their camping options, understanding that Cedar Hill Campground might not be a conventional public campground is key. It appears to offer a more structured, perhaps even residential-like, camping experience. This unique approach means that while it might not cater to every casual overnight camper, it could be an excellent fit for those looking for a long-term camping solution, a dedicated holiday spot, or a secure, community-oriented outdoor retreat in the Leesburg area. Its reported focus on "fun things going on for holidays" further underscores its potential as a vibrant, community-driven destination for specific occasions.

Location and Accessibility

Cedar Hill Campground is situated at 10186 Thomas Rd, Leesburg, OH 45135, USA. This address places it in the rural and scenic landscape of Highland County, Ohio. Leesburg is a small village known for its quiet charm and proximity to natural attractions, particularly Rocky Fork Lake, which is a major recreational hub in the region. The setting typically offers a peaceful escape from urban noise and light pollution, making it conducive to relaxation and outdoor enjoyment.

Accessibility to Cedar Hill Campground for Ohioans is generally good, relying on state routes and well-maintained county roads that connect to Leesburg. For those traveling from major Ohio cities like Cincinnati, Columbus, or Dayton, the drive would typically involve navigating a network of state highways that lead into Highland County. Thomas Road itself would be a local road, likely well-suited for vehicles including RVs and travel trailers, leading directly to the campground. The presence of a "gated fenced" entrance suggests a controlled access point, which might require prior arrangements or membership for entry. This controlled access can be a benefit for security and maintaining privacy within the campground. Its location in a rural area means a personal vehicle is essential for transportation to and from the campground and for accessing nearby services in Leesburg or other surrounding towns. The proximity to Rocky Fork Lake significantly enhances its appeal, offering additional recreational opportunities like boating, fishing, and swimming just a short drive away.

Services Offered

Given the nature of Cedar Hill Campground as potentially a private or long-term camping establishment, its services would likely be tailored to a more sustained stay rather than transient overnight camping. Based on the provided reviews and common offerings of such campgrounds, typical services would include:

  • Campsite Access: Provision of designated areas for campers, whether for tents or RVs, on a leased or membership basis. Reviews indicate "camper area" and a place to "pitch a tent on our kind friends camper area," suggesting established sites.
  • Utility Hookups: For RV and camper areas, it's highly probable that electrical hookups are available. While not explicitly stated for all sites, the context of "camper area" suggests this. Water hookups and potentially sewer connections would also be common for longer-term sites.
  • Restrooms and Showers: A review specifically mentions "a section with showers and toilets," confirming the presence of these essential facilities for campers. The cleanliness of these facilities is often a highlight for campers.
  • Security and Access Control: The mention of a "Gated fenced cannot enter" suggests a controlled, secure environment, which is a key service for private campgrounds aiming to provide peace of mind to their residents.
  • Waste Management: Services for trash disposal would be in place to maintain the cleanliness of the campground.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Regular upkeep of common areas, roads within the campground, and potentially individual leased lots would be managed by the park to ensure a pleasant environment.

These services, combined with the apparent private nature of the campground, contribute to a structured and secure camping experience.

Features / Highlights

The unique features and highlights of Cedar Hill Campground, as inferred from customer reviews and its private establishment nature, set it apart from typical public campgrounds:

  • Community-Oriented Atmosphere: The comment "We pitched a tent on our kind friends camper area" suggests a strong sense of community, where existing residents might have long-term sites and invite guests. This fosters a friendly, neighborhood-like environment.
  • Organized Holiday Events: A significant highlight is the mention of "a lot of fun things going on for holidays!" This indicates that the campground actively plans and hosts events, making it an engaging place for seasonal celebrations and creating memorable experiences for its residents/members.
  • Enhanced Security: The "Gated fenced cannot enter" feature is a major highlight for those seeking a more secure and private camping environment. This controlled access offers peace of mind.
  • Private Establishment: Unlike public campgrounds, its private nature suggests more autonomy in its operations and potentially a more exclusive feel, which can appeal to a specific segment of campers.
  • Access to Essential Facilities: The confirmed presence of "showers and toilets" that a reviewer "can’t complain about" indicates well-maintained, functional amenities, which are crucial for comfortable camping.
  • Potential for Seasonal/Long-Term Stays: The private and gated nature often implies a focus on seasonal or long-term leases, allowing campers to establish a semi-permanent home-away-from-home and personalize their sites.
  • Proximity to Rocky Fork Lake: While not directly on-site, its location in Leesburg means relatively easy access to Rocky Fork Lake, a major Ohio attraction for boating, fishing, and water sports.
  • Quiet Rural Setting: The address on Thomas Road in Leesburg indicates a peaceful, rural environment, perfect for escaping city noise and enjoying natural tranquility.

These features suggest Cedar Hill Campground offers a distinct and potentially more exclusive camping experience for those seeking a community feel and planned activities, especially around holidays.

Promotions or Special Offers

Given that Cedar Hill Campground is described as a "private establishment" with a "gated fenced" entrance, it is unlikely to offer standard public "promotions" in the same way a commercial business might for casual, overnight stays. Instead, its "offers" would typically revolve around its membership structure, long-term lease options, or specific event-based access. Potential considerations might include:

  • Seasonal or Annual Lot Leases: This is a common arrangement for private campgrounds, where individuals or families lease a campsite for an entire season or year, often at a set rate, allowing them to leave their camper on site.
  • Membership Opportunities: The campground might operate on a membership basis, where joining provides access to sites and amenities, possibly with a one-time initiation fee and annual dues.
  • Holiday Event Inclusion: If "fun things going on for holidays!" are a highlight, access to these events might be included as part of a seasonal lease or membership, or available as an add-on for specific guests.
  • Friend/Guest Access: As suggested by the review "We pitched a tent on our kind friends camper area," the "offer" might be the ability for current residents/members to host guests, possibly for a nominal fee.

Due to the nature of a private establishment and the information that there is "No website" and the "Phone number is not in working order" (as per one review), obtaining specific and current information on "promotions or special offers" can be challenging. The most reliable way to inquire about access, potential membership, or long-term lease opportunities would be to attempt contact through the provided phone number (937) 780-2267, or through local word-of-mouth if familiar with the Leesburg area. It is critical for interested parties to directly verify access and any associated costs before planning a visit.
