While it may not suit every camper's preference for amenities, for those who embrace primitive camping, it appears to be a cherished spot in Southwest Oklahoma.
Collier's Landing is a primitive campground located on the picturesque shores of Lake Ellsworth, near Apache, Oklahoma. Unlike highly developed RV parks or amenity-rich resorts, Collier's Landing offers a back-to-basics camping experience, primarily catering to tent campers and those who are self-sufficient. It is an ideal spot for individuals and groups looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature in a serene and undisturbed setting.
The essence of Collier's Landing is captured in the experiences of its visitors: "absolutely beautiful," with "amazing sunrises and sunsets" visible directly from campsites. This suggests a location chosen for its scenic value and peaceful ambiance. Campers here are typically those who appreciate the tranquility that comes with fewer modern conveniences, embracing the opportunity for "hot tenting" and enjoying quiet moments by the lake.
Operated with oversight from the City of Lawton, Collier's Landing maintains a level of security and regularity, with personnel driving through regularly to check on campers and collect fees. This provides a reassuring presence for campers, contributing to a feeling of safety while enjoying the wilderness. As a primitive camping site, the focus is on the natural environment and simple outdoor living, making it a perfect spot for those prepared for a rustic and authentic Oklahoma camping adventure.
Collier's Landing is situated on Fishermans Dr, Apache, OK 73006, USA. This address places it directly on Lake Ellsworth, a significant body of water in Comanche County, Southwest Oklahoma. The campground's name, "Collier's Landing," suggests a designated area for lake access, likely popular with anglers and those enjoying water activities.
Being on Fishermans Drive implies a direct and relatively straightforward route to the lakefront camping areas. While the specific roads leading to the campground within Apache might be county roads, they are generally navigable for vehicles towing trailers or for standard cars, as tent campers frequent the site. The town of Apache itself is accessible via state highways, connecting it to larger cities like Lawton, which is a major hub in Southwest Oklahoma, providing access to more extensive services, supplies, and medical facilities. Oklahoma City, the state capital, is also within a reasonable driving distance for those traveling from further afield.
The location offers both the seclusion of a natural setting and the convenience of being relatively close to basic town amenities. The emphasis on "peaceful" and "beautiful" reinforces that the accessibility leads to a genuinely tranquil escape. For those looking to enjoy Lake Ellsworth for fishing, boating, or simply lakeside relaxation, Collier's Landing offers a prime and convenient entry point into this popular recreational area in Oklahoma.
Collier's Landing provides services typical of a primitive campground, focusing on essential facilities rather than extensive amenities. Based on customer reviews, the services offered include:
- Campsites: Designated areas for primitive camping, suitable for tents or self-contained RVs, allowing campers to set up their own space.
- Port-a-Potty: There is at least one port-a-potty available, providing a basic, albeit limited, restroom facility.
- Security Patrols: City of Lawton personnel regularly drive through the campground to check on campers and collect fees, which contributes to a feeling of security and ensures compliance.
- Camping Fee Collection: Onsite personnel collect camping fees, simplifying the payment process.
It is crucial to note that, as a primitive campground, the availability of modern facilities such as flush restrooms, showers, or water/electrical hookups at individual sites is explicitly stated as "lacking" or non-existent in reviews. Campers should be prepared for a rustic experience, bringing their own water, and making arrangements for personal hygiene.
Collier's Landing offers several features that highlight its unique appeal for campers seeking a genuine outdoor experience:
- Stunning Natural Beauty: The most emphasized feature is the "absolutely beautiful" scenery, including "amazing sunrises and sunsets" visible directly from the campsites. This makes it a photographer's dream and a perfect spot for peaceful contemplation.
- Peaceful and Quiet Atmosphere: Reviewers consistently describe the campground as "peaceful," ideal for those looking to escape noise and crowds and truly relax in nature.
- Lake Ellsworth Access: Its location directly on Lake Ellsworth provides excellent opportunities for fishing, and other water-based activities like boating or swimming, depending on lake conditions.
- Feeling of Safety: The regular patrols by City of Lawton personnel to check on campers and collect fees create a significant "feeling of security," which is highly appreciated by campers, especially in more remote settings.
- True Primitive Camping Experience: For those who are "used to total primitive camping" and are prepared for it, Collier's Landing delivers an authentic, back-to-basics outdoor adventure. This is a highlight for experienced campers.
- Stargazing Potential: Being away from significant light pollution, the campground likely offers excellent opportunities for stargazing on clear nights.
It is important to remember that while these are significant highlights, they come with the understanding that modern amenities are minimal, primarily limited to a port-a-potty.
As a professional content writer, I do not have access to real-time promotional details or special offers from Collier's Landing. Given its nature as a primitive campground managed with oversight from the City of Lawton, traditional "promotions" are less common than for private, amenity-rich RV resorts.
However, standard pricing structures for public campgrounds typically involve:
- Daily camping fees: These are usually set rates per night per campsite.
- Potential discounts for extended stays: While primitive, some public campgrounds might offer slightly reduced rates for weekly or monthly stays, though this is less common for very basic sites.
- Seasonal variations: Fees might be higher during peak seasons (e.g., summer, holidays) and lower during off-peak times.

Customer Reviews
Had an excellent short weekend at Lake Ellsworth staying in Colliers Bay. Restroom facilities are lacking though.
Absolutely beautiful! We spent a week hot tenting and it was wonderful. We enjoyed the amazing sunrises and sunsets that we were able to see from our campsite. It was so peaceful. 😊 Only downside is that there is no restroom or showers, only one port-a-potty. We are used to total primitive camping and we were prepared but that's not the case for everyone. We felt very safe as City of Lawton personnel drove through regularly to check on campers and/or collect camping fees. We truly appreciated that feeling of security while camping. 👍 January 2021
Showed up in the middle of the night not knowing what to expect when we woke up. Perfect large space for our rv no hassle and we were the only ones there ! Woke up to coffee and a cute peaceful little lake. It was a great hidden spot. Wanted to fish but a little to windy, probably why all the wind mills are surrounding the area. Wild life was a great sight to see as well.
Absolutely beautiful. Secluded areas to enjoy family life. Swimming area, spots with electric, porta potties available, boat ramp, pavilion and tables in some spots.
The city needs to clean the area better the charge to use the lake but don't do much upkeep on the area.
