Dobbins ARB Rec Area & FamCamp About

For military personnel, veterans, and their families in Georgia, finding a secure, convenient, and welcoming place to stay with your RV can be a top priority. This isn't just a place to park your RV; it's a peaceful retreat that combines the comfort of nature with the security and camaraderie of a military installation.

FamCamps, or Family Camps, are a cherished amenity provided by military bases across the United States, offering affordable and secure recreational vehicle camping options exclusively for active duty military, National Guard, Reservists, retired military, and their eligible dependents. What sets Dobbins FamCamp apart, as consistently highlighted by those who've stayed there, is its exceptional blend of security, convenience, and natural beauty. Imagine enjoying the tranquility of a shaded, wooded campsite while benefiting from the inherent safety and peace of mind that comes with being on a military base. This unique combination makes it an ideal choice for short visits, extended stays, or even as a temporary home base while exploring the vibrant greater Atlanta area.

The positive feedback from veterans and military families underscores the success of Dobbins FamCamp in meeting their expectations. Reviewers praise the "incredibly convenient" location, noting it's "close to everything you need," while still maintaining a "peaceful and well-maintained environment." The added layer of "security that comes with being on base" is a recurring theme, providing a level of comfort that is often unparalleled at civilian RV parks. This focus on safety, combined with clean facilities and well-kept sites, creates a welcoming atmosphere where service members feel truly at home.

Even with the absence of sewer hookups at every site, which was noted as a minor "con" for some longer stays, the overall experience remains overwhelmingly positive, particularly for shorter visits. Promotions or Special Offers

As a military recreation area and FamCamp, Dobbins ARB Rec Area & FamCamp typically operates differently from commercial campgrounds in terms of promotions. Its primary "offer" is its exclusive availability and specially set pricing for eligible military personnel, veterans, and their families. While traditional "discounts" or "sales" in the commercial sense are unlikely, the entire operational model is based on providing a benefit to the military community.

Key aspects that function as inherent "special offers" or benefits include:

  • Exclusive Access: The most significant "promotion" is that access to Dobbins FamCamp is restricted to active duty military, National Guard, Reservists, retired military, and their eligible dependents. This exclusivity ensures a community of shared experiences and enhances security.
  • Affordable Rates: FamCamps are known for offering highly competitive and often significantly lower rates for RV sites compared to civilian campgrounds in similar desirable locations. These rates are a direct benefit provided to the military community.
  • Access to On-Base Amenities: The ability to utilize the Base Exchange (BX) for tax-free shopping, potentially the Commissary, MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) facilities, and other base services, is a substantial inherent "offer" that adds value to a stay at Dobbins FamCamp.
  • Enhanced Security: The elevated level of security inherent in being on a military installation provides a "peace of mind" that civilian campgrounds cannot typically match, acting as a unique and invaluable benefit.

It's important for prospective guests to understand that the "promotions" are embedded in the nature of a FamCamp. For specific pricing and availability, eligible individuals should contact Dobbins ARB Rec Area & FamCamp directly. They can provide detailed information on current rates and any specific policies regarding stays.

One of the best military base campgrounds we've visited. Lots are nice and in a wooded area with tons of shade. The base exchange is just across from it for easy access if you need something quick. Only con is that there is no sewer hookup but it wasn't an issue for our 3 day stay.

A glass half full, half empty issue. How far back in history do have to go when campers and trailers where relatively small. That's when this Fam Camp was created. Pretty much left to nature. Each time we come I need to do work on the site. One time the site, like most, was cut into an embankment. Much erosion made it hard to move around in back of our trailer. Did some shoveling. This time was similar. The grills have pads of stepping stones. This one was totally obscured by dirt and a mound of pine cones, pine needles, boken branches & twigs. Had to clear it all away lest an ember start a conflagration. Biggest issue are the trees. Left to grow over time they make it often very difficult to maneuver a rig into a site. Had a big "Grand Design" come in this week and it lost an encounter with a tree. Rec staff have tied red "danger" tape around many trees. Not much help there. BUT it is a back in the woods experience, in the heart of Atlanta. The main cross base roadway is on the north side but traffic is quiet. And the BX is across the road. Never seen more than a few cars in the lot. Bathhouse is nice. With free laundry. Bring flaslights and lanterns because there are no lights. Under the tree canopy it gets really dark at night. Only 18 sites, yet over Memorial Day weekend there were open slots. Plan ahead. Call ahead. For us it is the more than half full variety.

Only $25 per night. Close to many things. Parks, restaurants, shops and more. My only complaint is that they change the bathhouse code daily. I don't understand why. It's a secure military base. Who's out there waiting to break into the bathrooms??? Ridiculous!
