Located at 5102 Holly Way, Abilene, TX 79606, within the secure confines of Dyess Air Force Base, this campground provides a practical and accessible lodging solution for those authorized to use it. While it may not feature the extensive resort-style amenities of some commercial RV parks, its strong suit lies in its location, security, and the essential services it provides.

Dyess AFB FamCamp caters primarily to a military-affiliated clientele, offering concrete pads with full hookups and even a primitive tent area. It serves as a good base for short-term visits to the base or Abilene, as well as for longer stays for those on temporary duty or seeking extended accommodation. For eligible Texans, it's a valuable resource that combines the convenience of on-base living with the flexibility of RV or tent camping.

Location and Accessibility

Dyess AFB FamCamp is strategically located at 5102 Holly Way, Abilene, TX 79606, directly within the grounds of Dyess Air Force Base. This offers an undeniable advantage in terms of security and immediate access to base facilities. While it is on an active military installation, access to the FamCamp is generally straightforward once eligibility is confirmed and proper identification is presented at the gate. Reviews suggest "easy access through the gate and to the Campground," often through specific, well-paved routes designed for RVs.

The park's location on base means guests are just moments away from services like the Exchange, Commissary, and dining facilities. Furthermore, its proximity to Abilene, a vibrant West Texas city, allows for easy exploration of off-base attractions. Abilene offers a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options, including the Abilene Zoo, Frontier Texas! museum, and numerous parks. The presence of military aircraft displays within walking distance of the FamCamp adds a unique point of interest for guests, connecting them directly to the base's mission and history. While some guests mention occasional noise from planes or trains due to the active base and nearby rail lines, many find the convenience and security outweigh this minor aspect.

This RV Park does not have that many spaces, and most of them a for LONG TERM residents. I was told there are 2 sites for short stay. I spoke with one resident here who has been here a year. She told me you can stay as long as you want, just pay month to month, and it shows. All kinds of personal items are being stored under the RV's. Clothes lines stretched between the RV and the lantern posts full of closes. The only amenity was a laundry facility, men/women's bathroom with shower. The showers are private, but the dressing area is community. $35 is over priced. I cannot give a recommendation for Dyess AFB RV Park. It is nothing more than a parking lot with hookups. Before arriving we called to find out where to check in, we were told to just go to our site. No checkin was necessary.

Easy on and off access; we had a more than adequate pull-through for our 45-foot class A with a toad. There are back-in, too. Wide open, level spaces for the doggos to run and exercise. We were only there for an overnighter so I can’t speak to the bath house or laundry facilities. Would love to visit longer. Each site has a picnic table and grill. The gentleman who made our reservation is absolutely amazing and efficient and personable!
