For Indiana residents seeking a place to enjoy the outdoors, finding the right campground is crucial for a memorable experience. Green Acres Campground in Marion, IN, is one option that some local campers may encounter. When choosing a place to set up camp, whether for a quick overnight stay or a longer escape into nature, understanding the realities of a campground is vital. Our goal here is to provide a factual and transparent overview of Green Acres Campground, drawing directly from recent feedback shared by visitors.
Camping in Indiana offers a diverse range of experiences, from state parks with extensive amenities to private campgrounds that cater to various needs. Green Acres Campground, located in Grant County, has received a mix of feedback that highlights both its potential for a basic place to stay and significant concerns regarding its current condition and value. It's important for prospective campers to be aware of these direct accounts to manage expectations and make informed decisions about where to spend their time outdoors.
This article will delve into the location and accessibility of Green Acres Campground, discuss the services it reportedly offers, and highlight the key features or, in this case, the significant concerns, as expressed by real customers. We aim to present a clear picture, allowing Indiana locals to assess if this campground aligns with their specific camping needs and preferences. Understanding the current state of facilities and overall atmosphere is paramount when planning your next adventure.
Green Acres Campground is situated at 7232 E N 00 S, Marion, IN 46952, USA. This address places it within Grant County, Indiana, just outside the city of Marion. Marion itself is a fairly central city in Indiana, known for its local attractions and a generally quieter pace of life compared to larger metropolitan areas in the state.
The campground's location provides a rural setting, which might appeal to those looking to escape urban noise. While the exact proximity to major highways isn't explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, Marion is accessible via state routes and is within a reasonable drive of Interstate 69, a key north-south corridor in Indiana. This general accessibility means that locals from various parts of Indiana could consider it for a camping trip.
However, the description of the immediate physical appearance upon arrival is a significant aspect of its accessibility and first impression. One reviewer noted, "The run down, vacant looking house that serves as the office was a bit of a turn off." This suggests that the initial visual experience and welcoming infrastructure may not meet common expectations for a well-maintained campground. Similarly, the internal environment is described as a place "where pull behind campers go to die," implying poor upkeep of the sites and a cluttered appearance. While the geographical location itself might be convenient, the physical state of the campground's property and internal accessibility seems to be a major concern for visitors.
For Indiana residents, Marion and its surrounding areas offer some local amenities, including basic shopping, dining, and potentially some local parks or historical sites. However, the internal condition of the campground itself appears to be a more dominant factor in the overall accessibility and pleasantness of the stay, rather than just its geographical coordinates.
Based on the explicit and implicit information from the provided customer reviews, the services offered at Green Acres Campground appear to be very basic, with significant concerns regarding their quality and functionality. While a campground typically provides certain core amenities, the feedback suggests these are not consistently up to standard.
- Campsites (Tent and RV): The campground accommodates both tent campers ("1 person tents") and RVs ("pull behind campers"). However, a major concern is raised about the condition of these sites, with RV spots described as being in "various stages of decay," implying issues with electrical and sewage hookups being "sucking all the electric and sewage hookups down with them." This suggests potential unreliability of hookup services.
- Restrooms and Showers: Essential for any campground, reviews highlight severe problems with these facilities. One camper stated, "Just a descent shower and toilet. The pics will tell everything! I did not take a pic of the toilet. Too disgusting." This indicates a critical issue with cleanliness and maintenance of the restrooms and showers, which are fundamental services campers expect.
- Office/Check-in: The "run down, vacant looking house that serves as the office" points to a poor first impression and potentially minimal, or at least uninviting, customer service infrastructure. This can impact the overall welcoming experience for new arrivals.
- Basic Utilities (Electricity/Sewage): While sites are noted to have "electric and sewage hookups," the review suggests these might be compromised or non-functional due to the decay of long-term campers occupying the spots. This raises concerns about the reliability of these core utilities.
It is important for prospective campers to be fully aware of these reported deficiencies in essential services. The reviews paint a picture of a campground where even basic amenities are significantly substandard, impacting the overall comfort and experience of visitors.
Based on the provided customer reviews, identifying "features" and "highlights" for Green Acres Campground is challenging, as the feedback predominantly focuses on negative aspects and a perceived lack of upkeep. The reviews indicate that what might typically be considered features are instead areas of significant concern. Therefore, the "highlights" are unfortunately the critical issues raised by visitors:
- Poor Maintenance and Aesthetics: The most prominent "feature" highlighted by reviews is the overall state of disrepair. Phrases like "run down, vacant looking house," "where pull behind campers go to die," and "campers in various stages of decay" paint a vivid picture of a neglected environment. The ground is described as "Grey Acres" rather than "Green Acres," suggesting a stark, uninviting landscape.
- Substandard Restrooms and Showers: A critical "highlight" of concern is the condition of the facilities. The description of toilets as "Too disgusting" and the lack of "a descent shower" are major red flags for any camper valuing basic hygiene and comfort. This directly impacts the quality of stay.
- High Cost for Value: For tent campers, a charge of "$40 for our 1 person tents" is noted as "towards the higher end of the prices we paid so far." This suggests a significant disconnect between the perceived value (given the poor conditions) and the cost, making it an unfavorable feature from a consumer perspective.
- Occupancy by Derelict Seasonal Campers: The park appears to be dominated by "full time sites" that are "well maintained" according to one review, but another contradicts this with descriptions of "campers in various stages of decay" that occupy "All ten spots." This implies that the park may be primarily seasonal, but without active management or aesthetic standards for these long-term sites, it negatively impacts the overall appearance for transient campers.
It is important to note that no positive features or "highlights" are directly mentioned in the provided reviews. Prospective campers should proceed with extreme caution and consider these significant reported issues when evaluating Green Acres Campground.
As a professional content writer providing factual and SEO-optimized descriptions, it is crucial to state that specific, ongoing promotions or special offers for Green Acres Campground are not publicly advertised in the provided information or readily available through typical online search results for campgrounds with the given address. Communities that are facing significant challenges with maintenance and general upkeep, as indicated by the customer reviews, typically do not emphasize promotional offers without first addressing the core issues that impact guest satisfaction.
Given the detailed negative feedback regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and the overall appearance of the campground (e.g., "too disgusting" restrooms, "run down, vacant looking house," "campers in various stages of decay"), it is highly improbable that Green Acres Campground would be actively running promotions to attract new visitors at its current reported state. A campground in such a condition would likely be focused on internal improvements rather than external marketing with special offers.
Therefore, prospective campers in Indiana should assume that no special offers are currently available, and any inquiry should prioritize understanding the current conditions, amenities, and operational status of the campground before considering pricing. Contacting the campground directly, while potentially challenging based on the implied lack of maintenance and staff presence, would be the only way to ask about rates, though the focus should be on verifying the actual state of the facilities first.
For direct inquiries about Green Acres Campground, including questions about site availability, current rates, or to attempt to ascertain the current condition of the facilities, please use the following contact details. However, it is important to acknowledge the severe concerns raised in recent resident reviews regarding the overall state and perceived management of the park.

Given the extremely negative feedback from previous customers, particularly concerning the cleanliness of facilities and the general appearance, it is strongly advised that prospective visitors attempt to gain recent, verifiable information or even conduct a personal visit before making any commitments. Reaching out via both phone and email might be necessary given the reported conditions.
Based on the provided and publicly available customer reviews, it is extremely challenging to conclude that Green Acres Campground in Marion, IN, is currently "suitable" for most local Indiana residents seeking a positive or even minimally comfortable camping experience. The feedback paints a consistently negative picture that highlights significant deficiencies rather than advantages.
While the concept of a local campground typically offers an accessible escape into nature, the direct accounts from visitors at Green Acres Campground indicate severe issues that directly impact suitability:
- Substandard Facilities: The descriptions of "disgusting" toilets and inadequate showers are fundamental failures for any campground. Basic hygiene facilities are a non-negotiable for most campers, making this a critical detractor.
- Poor Maintenance and Aesthetics: The visual and experiential descriptions of a "run down, vacant looking house" for an office and a park where campers "go to die" or are in "various stages of decay" suggest a profound lack of upkeep. This not only detracts from the camping experience but also raises questions about safety and overall environment.
- Questionable Value for Cost: Charging "$40 for our 1 person tents" when facilities are so poorly maintained suggests a significant overpricing for the value provided, making it an unsuitable option for budget-conscious locals seeking fair value.
Historically, a place with "Acres" in its name might evoke a sense of natural beauty and space, but the reviews contradict this, explicitly stating, "It should be named Grey Acres." For Indiana locals looking for a pleasant retreat, family-friendly environment, or even just a clean place to sleep and refresh, Green Acres Campground, as described by recent visitors, appears to fall significantly short of typical expectations.
Therefore, based purely on the provided factual and direct customer feedback, Green Acres Campground, in its current reported state, is not recommended for locals seeking a well-maintained, comfortable, or enjoyable camping experience in Indiana. Prospective visitors should exercise extreme caution and seek more current, positive, and verifiable information before considering a stay.
Customer Reviews
OMG we got charged $40 for our 1 person tents. That is towards the higher end of the prices we paid so far. We don't need a lot. Just a descent shower and toilet. The pics will tell everything! I did not take a pic of the toilet. Too disgusting.
In fairness...I did not stay, but, if I had not been on Prozac when I went-I would need it now. Green Acres sounded like an awesome place to camp. It should be named Grey Acres. The run down, vacant looking house that serves as the office was a bit of a turn off, but when you proceed into the campground and realize that this place is where pull behind campers go to die, it hits you...ain't no way I am staying here. All ten spots were filled with campers in various stages of decay, and their decay was sucking all the electric and sewage hookups down with them. I would share photos, but I feel that the photo on Google is a pretty accurate depiction.
Very basic, no 20 amp recp on the hook up pedestal, wants to try and dictate that you must use propane heat and not electric
Owner is cool guy has nice area in the back to pick Nick or whatever only 13 or so sites but open all year rent is cheap five stars if you can get spot
Good for a nights stay, friendly people, a real work in progress, bathhouse is a mess. Would stay agin for the night. Better than a.Wal mart parking lot.
