Hi Pines Campground About

Wisconsin, with its sprawling forests, abundant lakes, and vibrant communities, is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and families seeking memorable getaways. Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Northwoods, Eagle River stands as a prime destination for those looking to immerse themselves in nature. Within this scenic setting, Hi Pines Campground emerges as a popular choice for campers, promising a wealth of amenities and activities designed for fun and relaxation.

Hi Pines Campground is well-regarded for its extensive facilities and a strong focus on family entertainment. While many campgrounds offer a simple place to pitch a tent or park an RV, Hi Pines aims to provide a comprehensive resort-like experience, especially for those with children. Its reputation hinges on offering unique attractions like a floating obstacle course, exceptionally clean amenities, and a wide variety of camping options to suit different preferences.

However, as with any popular destination, visitor experiences can sometimes vary. While the campground boasts "amazing amenities and really fun stuff for kids," and "exceptionally clean bathrooms, warm showers," some recent feedback has highlighted areas where customer service might impact a camper's overall satisfaction. This article will provide a balanced and factual overview of Hi Pines Campground, detailing its location, the services and features it offers, and important insights from real customers to help Wisconsin locals make an informed decision for their next family camping adventure in the Northwoods.

Location and Accessibility

Hi Pines Campground is conveniently located at 1919 US-45 N, Eagle River, WI 54521, USA. Eagle River itself is a well-known and beloved vacation destination in Wisconsin's Northwoods, famous for its extensive chain of 28 lakes, offering unparalleled opportunities for fishing, boating, and watersports.

The campground's position directly on US-45 North ensures straightforward accessibility for visitors traveling from various parts of Wisconsin and beyond. US-45 is a major highway that provides a clear route into Eagle River, making the journey relatively easy even for those pulling larger RVs or trailers. The address clearly indicates its direct roadside location, eliminating complex turns or remote, unpaved roads. This easy access is a significant advantage for families who want to minimize travel stress and maximize their time enjoying the outdoors. Once at the campground, the internal roads are generally well-maintained, allowing for easy navigation to different campsite areas and amenities. Its proximity to the town of Eagle River also means that campers have convenient access to local shops, restaurants, bait stores, and emergency services, adding a layer of comfort and practicality to their wilderness escape.

Services Offered

Hi Pines Campground offers a range of services designed to enhance the camping experience, particularly focusing on comfort and convenience for families.

  • Wide Variety of Campsite Options: The campground provides diverse "campsite options for your family." While specific types (e.g., full hookup, electric-only, primitive) are not detailed in the reviews, this suggests that campers can likely find sites suitable for RVs of various sizes, as well as tent camping, catering to different preferences and needs.
  • Exceptionally Clean Bathrooms: A consistent and highly praised service is the cleanliness of the facilities. Reviews highlight "exceptionally clean bathrooms," which is a crucial factor for a comfortable camping experience and often a top priority for families.
  • Warm Showers: Complementing the clean bathrooms, the availability of "warm showers" provides a significant comfort, especially after a day of outdoor activities or during cooler weather.
  • Camp Store/Lodge: The campground features a "clubhouse" or "lodge" that serves as a central hub, likely functioning as a camp store. This store would typically offer camping essentials, snacks, beverages, and possibly souvenirs. However, a review noted that it "closed... early Saturday without telling anybody," impacting access to services like firewood.
  • Firewood Sales: Firewood is available for purchase on-site. While convenient, one reviewer mentioned the cost: "$1.25/piece of firewood this was a larger bill than a site was." Campers should budget accordingly for firewood.
  • Food/Beverage Options (Clubhouse/Lodge): The "clubhouse" likely offers opportunities to purchase refreshments or snacks, although specific food items beyond what might be in a typical camp store were not detailed.
  • Staff Assistance: While some specific customer service interactions were negatively reviewed, the presence of staff implies availability for assistance with check-in, questions, and general campground management. Positive remarks were made about "two wonderful ladies working" on one occasion, who "were kind and demonstrated great interpersonal skills."

This "next-level fun" attraction on the pond or lake within the campground offers a unique and exciting activity for kids and adults alike, providing hours of entertainment and a refreshing way to cool off.
  • Outdoor Activities for Kids: The campground generally offers a variety of "outdoor activities for the kids." While pond inflatables may be seasonal, the intent is to keep other activities available for the season, though one review noted some outdoor equipment was removed prematurely.
  • Wagon Ride Saturday Night: A popular highlight mentioned by a reviewer was the "wagon ride Saturday night." These types of organized activities create a sense of community and provide memorable experiences for families.
  • Pond/Lake Access: The presence of the floating obstacle course confirms a pond or lake on site, offering opportunities for swimming, and potentially other non-motorized water activities.
  • Clean and Well-Maintained Grounds: Overall, the "Campground is nice and clean," as noted by visitors. This contributes significantly to a pleasant and comfortable camping environment.
  • Playgrounds/Recreational Areas: While not explicitly detailed, a family-focused campground with activities for kids would typically include playground equipment or dedicated recreational areas beyond the water features.

Campground is nice and clean, we went the weekend after Labor Day so I called ahead to make sure there was still outdoor activities for the kids (knowing the pond inflatables would be taken down). I was ensured everything remains up for the season to use, by Mid-day (still lightout) Saturday they removed the outdoor stuff that they were actively playing on. $1.25/piece of firewood this was a larger bill than a site was, as it got into the 40°s at night. (Stack in picture is $30) They closed the "clubhouse" over an hour early Saturday without telling anybody, so you couldn't order more firewood or anything else. Very disappointed and doubtful we'll return. Staff seemed pretty unwelcoming (Group of 4 Sites, all family)

Overall, this campsite has amazing amenities and really fun stuff for kids. The floating obstacle course is next-level fun. They also have exceptionally clean bathrooms, warm showers, and a wide variety of campsite options for your family. We additionally loved the wagon ride Saturday night. I want to acknowledge those positives. Really, my only barrier to returning here is customer-service related. The first night we were there, two wonderful ladies working. They were kind and demonstrated great interpersonal skills. The next day, however, a woman (blonde hair pulled up in a pony, short height, middle age) was working in the lodge. This woman chose to speak very disrespectfully to my 9 year son, right in front of me. My son and I went to the lodge together to play a game. I sat on a wooden chair, and he sat down on a lounge chair. He had his butt on the chair and then put his legs in the air to stretch them. I will say, he does have sensory processing issues and sometimes sits in that position to alleviate them. This worker, almost five seconds into his sitting down, angrily yelled at him, “YOUNG MAN, OUR FURNITURE IS NOT A JUNGLE GYM!!!” Now, I could list-out at least 10 better, more effective ways to have spoken to him just then. Simply asking him to put his feet down would’ve gone a long way. Kids with sensory issues often forget where their bodies are in space, so a gentle reminder would have sufficed. My kiddo isn’t perfect, I get young boys can be rough and wild—but he was NOT being rough! He wasn’t jumping, standing, rolling, or doing anything that compared to “jungle gym” behavior. I say all this only to alert this campsite that customer service is still important. I hope this employee will learn and improve. I would like to say she was just having a bad day, but in customer service you still need to put some emotional labor into your work to ensure your guests have a positive experience. Her poor communication soured the day for both me and my son. A simple apology would probably amend the situation for us. But please, just be kind to your guests, it’s not that hard!

Have stayed at Hi Pines for 10 plus years and they will not issue a refund with 11 days notice of cancelation. Had an unexpected change of plans and the office manager was awful to deal with. BEWARE of the fine print. Plus they double dip if they can rebook your site. They just simply don't care about the patrons. I had the option to move my dates, but she canceled my reservation anyway, didn't process a refund, and is now ghosting me. Good customer service. We will never be back along with a group of 6 other campers that come 2 times a year.

Karen and Mark make it feel like a family there. They always accommodate and are by FAR the best choice for a big rig in the area. Great access, the sites are large, it is close to beautiful downtown Eagle River and all the Northwoods has to offer.

Best campground for kids! So much to do at the campground and locally. We had a seasonal site, well worth it! Wish we could have gotten up more. Peaceful, on a clear night you can see all the stars, caught a couple small meteor showers. Other campers were all courteous and friendly. If you are looking to camp in the Northwoods this is a great choice!
