Our state offers a diverse tapestry of natural beauty, from the expansive forests of the Northwoods to the rolling hills and river valleys of the west. When it comes to planning a memorable outdoor escape, finding a campground that perfectly blends natural appeal with essential amenities and a welcoming atmosphere is key. Highland Ridge Campground in Spring Valley, WI, consistently emerges as a standout choice, embodying the very best of what local campers seek in a recreational retreat.
Highland Ridge Campground is more than just a place to set up camp; it's a meticulously maintained and thoughtfully designed outdoor haven. Customer reviews universally praise its cleanliness, beautiful sites, and excellent facilities, particularly the "very nice restrooms and showers" with "great water pressure and good hot water." What truly sets it apart, however, is the exceptional hospitality provided by the "WONDERFUL" camp hosts, who go above and beyond to assist guests, even in unexpected situations. For Michiganders, this means a camping experience that prioritizes comfort, convenience, and a genuine sense of community. Whether you're a family with young children drawn to the playground and ranger activities, a couple seeking peaceful wooded sites, or an adventurer eager to explore hiking trails, Highland Ridge Campground offers a compelling and affordable option right here in Wisconsin. Highland Ridge Campground is conveniently located at N2100 Dugan Rd, Spring Valley, WI 54767, USA. This address places it within Pierce County, in the western part of Wisconsin. Spring Valley is a charming village nestled in the beautiful Rush River Valley, an area characterized by its scenic bluffs, woodlands, and flowing waters. This region offers a slightly different, yet equally appealing, landscape compared to Wisconsin's northern forests, making it an excellent alternative for those seeking a different kind of outdoor experience.
For Wisconsin residents, accessing Highland Ridge Campground is generally straightforward. Spring Valley is reachable via well-maintained state highways, such as State Highway 29 and State Highway 128. From larger population centers like the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area (just across the border in Minnesota) or Eau Claire, WI, the drive is relatively short and scenic. Even from further parts of Wisconsin, the journey is manageable, leading you into a peaceful rural setting. Dugan Road, leading to the campground, is typically a well-marked local road. Unlike some more remote rustic campgrounds, Highland Ridge is designed to be easily accessible for all types of vehicles, including RVs and trailers, ensuring a smooth arrival. Its location provides a perfect balance: a sense of being "away from it all" without being truly isolated, offering convenient access to local towns for any necessary supplies or services. As a well-regarded campground known for its value, Highland Ridge Campground primarily offers its overall pricing structure as its most consistent "special offer." Based on the provided information, the key promotional aspect is:
-
Highly Affordable Nightly Rate: The rate of "$20 per night" for a campsite is an exceptional value, especially considering the quality of facilities and services available. This is a significant draw for budget-conscious campers.
-
No Required Park Pass: Unlike many state parks or recreation areas in Wisconsin that require a separate vehicle admission pass, Highland Ridge Campground explicitly states, "You do not need a pass at this campground." This eliminates an additional cost, further enhancing its affordability and making it more accessible for spontaneous trips.
Given these already very competitive rates and lack of extra fees, it's less common for such campgrounds to offer further explicit, time-limited "promotions" in the way a commercial business might. Their inherent value is the consistent pricing.
However, it's always advisable for prospective campers to:
-
Confirm Current Rates: While $20/night was the rate in the review, it's always good practice to call ahead and confirm current pricing for the season.
-
Inquire About Group Rates: If planning a large gathering, it might be worth asking if any group discounts are available for booking multiple sites.
-
Check for Off-Season Availability/Pricing: While not explicitly stated, some campgrounds might have slight variations in pricing or availability during less popular shoulder seasons (spring/fall).
The core "special offer" here is the excellent quality provided at an incredibly affordable price, making it a fantastic value for any Wisconsin camper.

Customer Reviews
Tent camped here with my 3 young kids and had a great time. The sites are beautiful and clean, there's a playground on site and hiking trails.
We stayed 3 days at this campground. We're from Missouri so I chose it based on reviews and I'm glad we did! The restrooms and showers are very nice, great water pressure and good hot water. There's plenty of water spickets scattered around. There's a nice playground the grandkids loved. They said that was their favorite part of the camping trip! There's a beach to use, it's about a 15 minute drive and there's no dogs allowed at the beach. This was something that wasn't mentioned when I looked through reviews. The camp hosts are WONDERFUL! We had trouble with our truck while we were there but the hosts have a son with a diesel shop so my husband was able to replace the injector at the camp site and the host's son came by with his computer to program it! We were at campsite E. Water on one side and the bathrooms just about 300 steps to the other side by the playground. There are activities with the park rangers! On Saturday, we took a night trail walk with glow sticks! The park rangers had lots to teach the group about the forest and the reservoir. The sites are spread out and they're all wooded so no problem to hang clothesline or hammocks. They are very small gravel, so way better for bugs than grassy sites. Some of the rocks are magnetic, bring a magnet and see! There's a picnic table and a fire pit with a grill at each site. You do not need a pass at this campground like so many in Wisconsin. Our site was $20 per night. Well worth it! We will certainly stay again!
Loved this campground. We were right next to the bathroom, and it did not smell. Very nicely kept and cleaned park. Dog friendly, though it gets annoying with all the baking and dog related noises. Not everyone is a dog owner or lover. We all have our own choices. The woods are beautiful, and there are walking and horseback paths around. We saw plenty of nice bugs, including giant swallowtail and sphinx moths. The beach is across the lake, which is kind of a really long drive away (7.5 miles). Spring Valley is nearby and you can get things at the Butchery shop or dollar store incase you underpacked. Overall, we had a great experience here and plan to go back sometime. Oh, the woods are very nice and thick. It was 85 degrees out in the sun but about 73 in the park where the sunshine doesn't hit the ground very hard. We almost thought it was night time at noon with his dark it was in the camper (on a sunny day). Local people also sell a plethora of wood along the road so there is no shortage of campfire wood.
A very nice little wooded campground nestled in amongst the pine trees with a beautiful reservoir close by. Great little hiking and equestrian trails to wander. And a big playground for the kids.
Mosquitoes!! Spiders!! Couldn't really enjoy because mosquitoes didn't leave us alone for a second. We went in late summer, may be because of that, idk. The campsite was very beautiful. Restrooms and showers are okay. Almost all the spots are pretty much shaded and beautiful. Has enough distance from neighbors too. The host was very helpful and friendly. Not much info on the hiking trails though, it's like self guided mostly.
