Johnson RV Park About

Welcome to Johnson RV Park, a cherished retreat for eligible Floridians seeking a tranquil and well-appointed RV camping experience right here in our beautiful state. Located within the secure and scenic Camp Blanding Joint Training Center installation in Starke, Florida, this RV park offers a unique blend of convenience, comfort, and natural beauty. Unlike public campgrounds, Johnson RV Park operates with a specific clientele in mind, primarily serving active duty military, retired military personnel, DoD civilians, and their sponsored guests. This ensures a close-knit, respectful community and a peaceful environment that many Floridians with military ties will truly appreciate.

Imagine waking up to picturesque lake views, having easy access to full hookups for your RV, and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow service members and their families. Johnson RV Park provides a welcoming atmosphere, whether you’re looking for a short weekend escape or a longer, more extended stay. It's a fantastic home base for exploring North Florida, with popular destinations like St. Augustine just a short drive away. For those who have served or are currently serving, and their affiliates, Johnson RV Park is more than just a place to park your RV; it’s a dedicated community where you can relax, recharge, and enjoy the best of Florida's outdoors.

Johnson RV Park is uniquely situated within the Camp Blanding Joint Training Center installation, providing a secure and dedicated environment for its guests. The physical address is Ave A, Starke, FL 32091, USA. However, as noted by experienced campers, navigating to the correct entrance can sometimes be a bit tricky with standard GPS systems. A helpful tip from a seasoned traveler is to use the gate that leads to the Camp Blanding Museum. The address for the Camp Blanding Museum is 5629 SR 16 West, Building 3040, Starke, Florida 32091. Using this landmark for your GPS will guide you to the appropriate entrance for gaining access to the installation and subsequently, Johnson RV Park.

Once inside the Camp Blanding installation, the RV park is well-located, offering beautiful views of Kingsley Lake. The roads within the park are noted to be hard-packed, though some older sections may have potholes, as is common in many campgrounds. While a review mentioned ongoing work on bridges and roads, these improvements typically enhance accessibility. Even larger rigs, such as 5th wheels with a combined truck and trailer length of 53 feet, have found sites to be spacious and easy to back into, particularly those on concrete pads. The drive to popular attractions like St. Augustine is convenient, approximately 45 minutes away, making Johnson RV Park a strategic base for exploring the wider North Florida region.

Johnson RV Park is well-equipped to provide a comfortable and convenient stay for its eligible guests, offering a range of essential services designed to enhance the RV camping experience.

  • Full Hookups: Most sites, including those reviewed, offer full hookups, providing water, electricity (30 and 50 amp available), and sewer connections directly at your site. This is a significant convenience, allowing for extended stays without the need for frequent trips to dump stations.

  • Laundry Facilities: A centrally located laundry room is available for guests. It is equipped with four washers and six dryers, operating on quarters. A coin machine is conveniently provided on-site. The cost is $1.50 per wash load and $1.75 for 45 minutes of drying time.

  • Picnic Tables: Each campsite typically includes a picnic table, perfect for outdoor dining, games, or simply relaxing outside your RV.

  • Fire Rings: Many sites are equipped with a fire ring, allowing campers to enjoy traditional campfires. It’s always a good idea to bring your own firewood.

  • Mobile Mechanic Access: In case of RV issues, the recreation office facilitates access for mobile mechanics by providing visitor passes, ensuring that guests can receive necessary repairs while on-site.

  • On-Site Office & Guest Services: The recreation office serves as a central point for information, assistance, and processing visitor passes for services like mobile mechanics.

  • Dump Station: While full hookups are prevalent, a dump station is available for general use, likely for those in the primitive or partial hookup sections, or for transient needs.

  • Pet-Friendly (with restrictions): Pets are allowed in most areas, provided they are on a leash and owners clean up after them. There is generally a two-pet limit and a pet fee, plus a requirement for current proof of rabies vaccination. Note that one of the camping areas (the center park out of the three) does not allow pets, so it's advisable to clarify when booking if bringing a pet.

Johnson RV Park at Camp Blanding offers several distinct features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for eligible campers in Florida.

  • Exclusive Access for Military & Affiliates: This is a standout feature, as the park is open primarily to active duty, National Guard, Reservists, retired military, 100% DAV, DoD Civilians, and sponsored guests. This creates a secure, respectful, and often quieter environment compared to public campgrounds, fostering a strong sense of community among guests with shared experiences.

  • Beautiful Lake Views: Many sites, including those mentioned in reviews, offer beautiful views of Kingsley Lake. This picturesque setting enhances the overall camping experience, providing a serene backdrop for relaxation and outdoor activities.

  • Spacious, Level Concrete Pads: Campers appreciate the "fairly level cement pads" that are "wide and easy to back into," even for larger rigs up to 53 feet. This makes setting up camp much easier and more comfortable, regardless of RV size.

  • Full Hookups at Most Sites: The prevalence of full hookups (water, electric, sewer) at many sites provides maximum convenience, allowing for longer, more comfortable stays without the need to frequently move for services.

  • Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities: The laundry room is noted for being clean and well-maintained, a crucial amenity for extended stays. While one review mentioned not visiting the "new area," it suggests ongoing improvements and maintenance efforts across the park.

  • Proximity to St. Augustine: Being approximately 45 minutes from St. Augustine is a significant highlight. This allows campers to easily access the historic charm, beaches, and attractions of one of Florida's most iconic cities while enjoying the quietude of the RV park.

  • Easy Access to Camp Blanding Museum: The Camp Blanding Museum is near the main gate, offering an educational and enriching experience for visitors interested in military history. Using the museum gate for entry is a helpful navigation tip.

  • Variety of Site Options: The park offers a mix of full hookup RV sites and potentially some primitive or partial hookup areas, catering to different camping preferences, though the primary focus is on RVs.

Johnson RV Park at Camp Blanding provides attractive pricing and specific offers tailored to its eligible clientele, making it a valuable option for military-affiliated individuals in Florida.

The daily rates for RV sites typically range from $28 to $40, depending on the site type (e.g., full hookups with 30/50 amp, or water-only primitive sites). A significant promotion available is a discounted rate for Senior Pass holders (often meaning the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Senior Pass or similar military-specific senior passes), which can reduce the nightly rate. While specific details on the Senior Pass discount at Johnson RV Park itself are not always widely publicized in public reviews, military campgrounds frequently offer such benefits to retirees.

It's important to note that reservations are required and can often be made up to 90 days in advance, sometimes with a first night's deposit. Some sources even indicate reservations can be made up to 365 days in advance with a $100 deposit and a $10 reservation charge. Given the eligibility requirements, this often means that demand can be high, particularly during peak seasons, so early booking is highly recommended to secure your preferred spot.

The park also has specific rules regarding guest fees, with charges for additional persons per day, and a separate fee for pets. While not a "promotion" in the traditional sense, the inherent value of staying at a secure, well-maintained RV park with full hookups and lake access, available at rates specifically for military and affiliated personnel, serves as a continuous benefit. These rates are often considerably more affordable than comparable public or commercial RV parks in popular Florida destinations, making it a consistent "special offer" for its intended audience. Additionally, for longer stays, there may be monthly rates available, further enhancing the affordability for Floridians looking for extended winter retreats or long-term parking.

It is always recommended to call ahead, especially for reservations and to confirm eligibility requirements and any specific gate access procedures, as these details can sometimes change.

This campground is on the Camp Blanding Joint Training Center installation. Active duty and retired military can make reservations to stay here. I am not sure what other categories of persons have base camping privileges. Our GPS had trouble finding the correct open gate. Use the gate to the Camp Blanding museum. We are in a 5th wheel, total truck and trailer length is 53 ft. We have stayed in sites 25 and 26. Both were on fairly level cement pads that were wide and easy to back into. We had full hookups, a picnic table, and a fire ring. We had a beautiful view of the lake. The laundry room is in the middle of the middle camping area. There were 4 washers and 6 dryers, quarters required. There is a coin machine available. $1.50 to wash and $1.75 for 45 minutes of drying time. St. Augustine is an easy drive, about 45 minutes, from the campground. During our stay we needed a mobile mechanic. We notified the recreation office and received a visitor pass for the mechanic (easy process).

Great little park. They are working on bridges and need some improvement on the roads in the old area. Did not visit the new area. Kind of weird though for dog walking. The center park out of the 3 doesn't allow pets.

We love this RV Park on a FL National Guard Base. Must have ID to enter base and camp. The Rec Dept was so helpful yesterday when we arrived at the very end of her work day. GENEROUS Spaces between sites, FHU area and new overflow area with water/20 amp. Next to a gorgeous lake. Bathrooms near Rec Office/no showers. Historic WWII era basic training base where my dad had basic. Great museum. Our 2nd visit. Will return
