The Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park is conveniently located at 1325 Rock Island Ave, Vandalia, IL 62471, USA. Its address places it squarely in Vandalia, a historic city in Fayette County, Illinois, which served as the state capital from 1819 to 1839. This central Illinois location makes it highly accessible for travelers traversing the state on major routes.
A significant aspect of its accessibility is its proximity to a key highway, which is implied by reviews mentioning "easy in, easy out" and being "right off the highway." While not explicitly stated as I-70 in the provided reviews, other public data confirms it's easily accessible from Interstate 70 (I-70), a major cross-country artery. This makes it an ideal stop for those on long-distance trips who need a quick and efficient place to park for the night.
Crucially, despite being next to what's described as a "busy road," visitors have noted that "the sound was not very loud," ensuring a surprisingly quiet environment for rest. Customer Reviews
This is a fantastic location to catch a glimpse of the Kaskaskia Dragon. While it isn't a large RV park with numerous amenities, it’s conveniently situated right by the dragon. When we visited, it was quite busy, but it felt like a secure place to rest, whether you’re working or just passing through.
I am a very skeptical person. We needed a stop over for a long distance trip and we found Kaskaskia online. Easy in, easy out. Full hook ups. The dragon is fun. The people at the hardware store where you check in were very friendly. The grounds are well kept and despite its location being next to a busy road, the sound was not very loud. We were even greeted by the northern lights which I hadn't seen since moving from Alaska some years ago. I highly recommend this place to anyone passing through.
Easy access. Large level gravel spots. Book online and park yourself. cant get any easer. Buy tokens for the fire breathing dragon $1 for about 15sec. We returned Dec 24th 2024 laundry and liquor store across street hardware close by
We wanted a place to meet up with friends and visit the Cahokia mounds without being too close to St. Louis. For $25/night, you cant complain about this little campground. There is a laundrymat, liquor store and hardware store right across the street. For $1 you can buy a token to make the dragon breathe fire. People stopped to make the dragon burn that were even staying in the campground.
This is not a campground as you might imagine. There are 12 pull through full hookup sites across the road from a well stocked hardware store (under the water tower) and that's where you check in at the hardware store cash register. Just park on the side of the road before you get to the store. This is a safe place to stay for one night if traveling I-70. It's about a mile from the interstate and no traffic noise. Sites are gravel and fairly level. There are no restrooms, showers, trash cans or laundromat, but directly across the road you'll find a convenience/ liquor store, a laundromat, car wash, and a pet wash. Everything you need for an overnight rest. When you are done checking in at the hardware store the clerk will give you a couple of tokens to light up the fire breathing dragon next to the camp sites. Light him up when it's dark for the best pictures. Each token gets you 10 seconds of flame!
