Introduction / Overview
For Mainers seeking the quintessential lakefront escape without traveling deep into the wilderness, Pushaw Lake Campground in Orono offers an appealing and accessible solution. Nestled on the serene shores of nine-mile-long Pushaw Lake, this local treasure provides a unique blend of natural beauty and thoughtful amenities, making it a perennial favorite for families, seasonal residents, and weekend adventurers. The campground is ideally situated to serve as a home base for exploring The Maine Highlands region, offering excellent access to both the natural splendor of the area and the urban conveniences of nearby Bangor.
Pushaw Lake Campground features a wide array of lodging options, ranging from spacious, big-rig-friendly RV sites with full or partial hookups to cozy cabin rentals, catering to all styles of camping and vacationing. The atmosphere is generally recognized as friendly, with a welcoming staff that contributes to a positive community feel. The lake itself is a major draw, renowned for its pristine waters and excellent opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating. The proprietors have clearly invested in the facility, with reports of major efforts to rebuild and update various areas, demonstrating a commitment to improving the guest experience.
It is worth noting for prospective visitors that, like many popular campgrounds, the demand for lakefront access and convenience means that sites can be quite close together. Some visitors have mentioned that the layout offers "absolutely NO privacy between camp sites," an important consideration for those who prioritize seclusion. Furthermore, access to this beautiful spot involves navigating a dirt road that, according to customer reviews, is often in need of repair. While the journey may be bumpy, the destination—with its beautiful beach and meticulously clean restrooms/showers—is consistently praised as worth the trip, providing an overall amazing and memorable experience. The fact that the campground is home to many seasonal sites, with long-term residents who add a personal, homey touch to their lots, speaks to the stable community atmosphere the park fosters.

Friendly staff. Nice place. The dirt road to the place needs work. Great place to bring a camper or rent the cabins.
May 27, 2025 · Chuck pWow, just WOW! This place is absolutely Beautiful!!! However tje one thing i was not so crazy about is that everyone is so packed in together that there is absolutely NO privacy between camp sites. But aside from that I enjoyed my time visiting my Mom & her Husband. The beach was beautiful, the restrooms/showers were very clean, and over all our visit was amazing!! I definitely will be making another visit very soon, & maybe, just maybe I can convince my husband to go camping for a week or just the weekend next summer!!

May 30, 2025 · MAE BEARI like this campground, but it has many needs to get a great review. Starting with the road into the campground. It's horrible. Full of potholes and mud when raining. Brush growing in on the sides making passing an oncoming vehicle impossible without dragging brush down the sides of your camper. Bathrooms have two toilets that doors will not lock and at times backed up. Has showers also. Camp sites are tight and close together. Large pine trees encroach all lots. Branches fall frequently. Most lots are taken by seasonal renters. Has a nice beach, horse show pits, pavilion, game room, playground. Has a sewer dump and a portable dump service that comes around. Drainage is horrible. When raining water runs through all lots and some get flooded. On-site management, nice people but overwhelmed with issues. Nice food options at grill. Small boat launch, rocky and narrow. Rocks in the launch everywhere. Watch your prop until far out in the lake. Nice bass fishing. Shallow, weedy lake. Prices fair. Friendly people.
Sep 09, 2023 · William NickersonMs Kim is nice and loves the kids. She has many activities throughout the summer for the children including Easter egg hunts and Christmas in July. They have horseshoes and fishing. I never caught anything but that's my luck🤷♂️.
