Introduction / Overview
For New Yorkers seeking a genuine escape from the city hustle without embarking on an all-day drive, Rivers Edge Retreat in Greenwich, NY, offers a compelling riverside sanctuary. Nestled in the picturesque rolling hills of Washington County, this private campground is located directly on the beautiful Battenkill River, a celebrated waterway known for its fishing and paddling opportunities. Rivers Edge Retreat is promoted as a unique, intimate spot, covering over 36 acres of riverfront property that caters to both tent and RV campers. It’s a place where the sounds of the water replace the sounds of traffic, providing a quick, nature-filled recharge that’s close to home for many Upstate and Capital Region residents.
The retreat is developing its offerings to emphasize a communal, friendly atmosphere. Customer feedback often highlights the owner’s attempts to be welcoming and hospitable, creating an environment where campers are encouraged to socialize at bonfires and feel a sense of belonging. The location itself—right on the river with unique access to a local waterfall—is undeniably beautiful and provides the core appeal for nature lovers.
A Note on Safety and Transparency: While many visitors report positive, enjoyable, and family-friendly experiences with helpful staff and a great atmosphere, it is crucial for us to acknowledge a serious, isolated report from a solo woman traveler. This review described an absolutely terrifying and uncomfortable experience involving inappropriate remarks and unwanted attention from the owner, leading the traveler to leave immediately. As professional content writers, we present all factual data to ensure potential visitors, especially solo women travelers, are fully informed. We strongly advise that all visitors read current and varied reviews, and, if traveling alone, consider having a safety plan in place or choosing an alternative option that prioritizes a comfortable environment above all else.
Location and Accessibility
Rivers Edge Retreat is conveniently located in the quaint, historic town of Greenwich, New York, placing it within an easy drive for residents of the Capital Region, Saratoga Springs, and even parts of the mid-Hudson Valley. This makes it an ideal spot for a weekend getaway that feels remote without demanding excessive travel time.
The property is situated at:
213 Fiddlers Elbow Rd, Greenwich, NY 12834, USA
The proximity to major Upstate New York hubs is a key selling point. Greenwich is approximately 30 minutes from Saratoga Springs, known for its racetrack, vibrant downtown, and historical sites, offering campers the option to combine their nature retreat with urban exploration. The site’s location near the Battenkill River offers easy access to a variety of outdoor activities, and nearby attractions include Moreau Lake State Park and Saratoga National Historical Park. Access to the retreat is typically via a gravel road, which one camper noted was manageable even for a 30-foot motorhome, leading to a secluded 'paradise' right on the water.

Rivers Edge Retreat focuses on providing a classic, amenity-enhanced camping experience, with services designed to make riverfront relaxation easy and fun.
Features / Highlights

Conclusion: Why Rivers Edge Retreat is Suitable for New York Locals
Rivers Edge Retreat is particularly well-suited for New York locals—especially those in the greater Capital Region and Upstate areas—because it provides a maximal natural experience with minimal travel effort. It’s an accessible portal to the serenity of the Adirondack Foothills and the Battenkill River region, allowing for a quick, effective ‘digital detox’ weekend. The opportunity to camp directly on the river and easily access a local waterfall for swimming creates a unique value proposition that is hard to find in developed state parks. The dog-friendly environment and the availability of rentals appeal to families and groups looking for an easy, activity-rich, natural getaway.
However, local users need to weigh the retreat's natural beauty and community-focused charm against the very serious safety concerns that have been raised. For couples, families, and prepared groups, it offers an outstanding, unique New York camping experience close to home. For solo travelers, particularly women, exercising extreme caution, traveling with a friend, and prioritizing personal safety is strongly recommended before booking. For the New York resident who loves the outdoors and is seeking a beautiful riverside location for paddling and relaxing, this remains a physically convenient and naturally stunning local option, provided they approach their stay with full awareness and a focus on safety.

We chose this place because it was close to home and my partner thought it would be a great first camping experience for me. And he was absolutely right. The owner was extremely hospitable, came and checked up on us and made sure we had everything we needed, offered for us to go join them at the clubhouse for a bonfire, etc. They have kayaks for rent so we took some out and went down the river and hiked to a waterfall they told us about. Despite the rainy/cold weather, it was definitely a great experience. Definitely recommend and will be returning again soon!
Jun 08, 2023 · Samantha Sawyerabsolutely terrifying experience. As a solo woman traveler (who is very small and only 21) i was approached by the “owner” who brought me on the golf cart for 30 minutes and repeatedly made inappropriate jokes and remarks, including asking if i was single and making me go into his house. There was not a single other person at the campground, leaving just me and this man who wouldn’t get the hint to leave me alone. I felt so uncomfortable i lied about having a boyfriend sleeping in the tent. I read a review on here from a woman warning other women to not stay here, and that the owner made inappropriate remarks. I wish i had seen that before spending $60 to be traumatized and leave before it even got dark. Take it from me, absolutely do not stay here if you aren’t prepared to fend off a creep.
Oct 21, 2024 · Kiara HaskinsI recently had the pleasure of staying at this enchanting campsite nestled by the river. The soothing sound of the river and the serenading owl calls at night created a truly immersive natural experience. The outdoor fire pit was perfect for a cozy gathering and roasting marshmallows, adding to the overall ambiance. My teen boys also loved it! There is a small waterfall nearby which added an extra touch to the serene setting. It is truly a perfect escape for nature lovers seeking tranquility and connection with nature. I would highly recommend!
Oct 17, 2023 · DR BGMRileyWhat an awesome spot! We stayed here for 3 days right on the Batten Kill river with deer, falcons, herons beavers etc. for company. Todd and Hector made sure we had everything we needed and kept us supplied with firewood. There are some great hikes right from our site and also a supermarket close by which we walked to. Todd has only recently taken over the RV retreat and has great plans which will only make the place even better. I will definitely be back.
