Campgrounds serve as essential hubs for outdoor enthusiasts, providing a temporary home base for adventures ranging from hiking and fishing to exploring local towns and cities. S&H Campground aims to offer a functional and accessible spot for travelers, particularly those with RVs, to set up camp and enjoy their time in the Hoosier State.

While the experience at any campground can vary based on individual preferences and external factors like weather, S&H Campground positions itself as a convenient choice for those visiting the Indianapolis metropolitan area and its surrounding suburbs. It's a place that, at its best, offers the simple pleasures of outdoor living with the crucial advantage of being close to urban amenities. This overview will delve into the details of S&H Campground, providing factual information based on available public data to help prospective campers in Indiana make informed decisions.

S&H Campground is conveniently located at 2573 W 100 N, Greenfield, IN 46140, USA. This address places it just outside the main developed areas of Greenfield, offering a reasonably quiet environment while maintaining excellent accessibility to essential services and major urban centers in Central Indiana. Greenfield itself is the county seat of Hancock County and provides a variety of local amenities, including grocery stores, restaurants, and retail options, all within a short drive from the campground.

A significant advantage of S&H Campground's location is its proximity to Indianapolis. The campground is "close enough to Indy that you can get anywhere within 30 minutes," making it an ideal base for exploring the state capital's attractions, events, and employment opportunities without being directly in the hustle and bustle of the city. Suburban areas surrounding Indianapolis, which offer even closer access to a full range of services, are also very accessible from the campground.

The "2573 W 100 N" designation indicates its placement on a county road, suggesting relatively easy access from major highways, which is crucial for RVs and trailers. This semi-rural location allows for a more relaxed atmosphere than campgrounds directly within city limits, while still ensuring that urban conveniences are not far away. The area around the campground is generally quiet, particularly if one is not camped along the main road, though even those sites are noted as "not bad." This strategic positioning offers campers the best of both worlds: a peaceful retreat after a day of exploration, with the vibrant life of Central Indiana just a short drive away.

S&H Campground offers a range of services designed primarily for RV and trailer campers, aiming to provide essential conveniences for both short and extended stays. Based on public reviews, the availability of some services may vary seasonally.

  • Full Hookup Sites: Many sites are equipped with full hookups, which typically include water, electric, and sewer connections, catering to self-contained RVs.
  • On-Site RV Service: A notable service highlight is the presence of Happy Camper RV service on-site. This is highly beneficial for campers who might experience mechanical issues with their RVs during their stay, providing immediate assistance.
  • Heat Tape for Water Connections: For colder weather, the campground provides heat tape for water connections, although one review noted a need for prompt repair when issues arose.
  • Sewer Dump Access: While available, issues with backed-up sewer lines and delays in repair were reported by one long-term guest, indicating potential inconsistencies in this service.
  • Office and Staff Interaction: An office is available for check-ins, site changes, and addressing issues, although one review noted a negative experience with the owner regarding a billing mistake, while staff subsequently corrected it.

It is important to note that, according to a review, "No laundry or bathrooms in the winter," indicating that some facilities may be seasonal. Prospective campers should verify the availability of specific services, especially if planning a visit during off-peak seasons, to ensure their needs will be met.

S&H Campground boasts several features and highlights that contribute to its overall appeal as a camping destination in Central Indiana. These aspects are often what draw campers to the location, providing a framework for their outdoor experience.

  • Established Trees: A significant highlight is the presence of "established trees," providing natural shade and a much more appealing environment than a mere "parking lot with hookups." This contributes to the aesthetic and comfort of the sites.
  • Proximity to Indianapolis: Its location offers excellent access to Indianapolis and its surrounding suburban areas, making it a convenient base for exploring the region's attractions, dining, and shopping.
  • Reasonably Quiet Area: The campground is noted as being "reasonably quiet," especially away from the main road, contributing to a peaceful camping experience.
  • Accessibility for Large RVs: The park is accommodating for larger vehicles, with a 40' Class A RV reportedly having "no trouble getting in or out."
  • On-Site RV Repair Service: The convenience of having Happy Camper RV service on-site is a substantial benefit, offering immediate assistance for unexpected mechanical problems.
  • Seasonal Operation (for some amenities): While this can be a drawback for winter campers, the focus on warmer months allows the park to offer certain amenities during peak season.

However, it is important to address some areas of concern highlighted in reviews:

  • Site Grading/Drainage Issues: There are significant complaints about sites flooding and large puddles, especially after rain, indicating a need for "serious long term maintenance" and "grading."
  • Close Sites in Older Section: The "older section of the park" is noted for having "very close" sites, which may affect privacy and space for some campers.
  • Winter Bathroom/Laundry Closures: The lack of laundry or bathroom facilities in winter is a clear limitation for those planning cold-weather stays.
  • Sewer Back-up Issues: Repeated problems with backed-up sewer lines and delays in fixing them are a notable concern for long-term RV users.
  • Management Communication/Customer Service: One review describes a negative experience with the owner regarding a billing error and a perceived lack of trust, though staff did correct the issue. This suggests potential inconsistencies in customer service.

Information regarding specific, time-sensitive promotions or special offers for S&H Campground is not readily available through general public data. Like many campgrounds, S&H likely relies on direct inquiry for current rates, availability, and any potential deals for extended stays or group bookings.

Given some of the feedback about site conditions and service issues, it would be particularly beneficial for prospective campers to inquire about any guarantees regarding site drainage, utility functionality (especially for sewer connections), and the availability of amenities during their planned visit dates. While not a "promotion" in the traditional sense, clarity on these operational aspects serves as a significant value proposition for campers.

Individuals interested in S&H Campground should contact the facility directly. During this communication, it would be advisable to ask about current rates, any discounts for longer stays, and importantly, to confirm the operational status of all facilities, particularly if planning a stay during the colder months when bathrooms and laundry services may be closed. Direct communication is the most reliable way to obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information on any potential offers or conditions that might impact a stay.

However, prospective campers should be aware of and directly inquire about the reported challenges, particularly concerning site grading and drainage issues, which can lead to flooding after rain, and the inconsistent availability of sewer services. The seasonal closure of laundry and bathroom facilities in winter also needs to be factored into planning for colder-month stays. To the point: This park is alright if it's not raining or cold. No laundry or bathrooms in the winter. Park needs some serious long term maintenance. Particularly some grading. Sites are very close in the older section of the park. Would honestly stay away from this park. I stayed here in December for 5 days and again in January for 3 weeks. December was good until it rained and I had a huge puddle outside the door that couldn't be avoided. My water connection froze because their heat tape broke, but they came out and fixed it immediately. January was horrible. To start I was taken to choose between 3 sites all of which were flooded so I was offered a different one that was not. 2 days later I was asked if I could move because that site was reserved. I was given the option to move to a site that I was originally told was unavailable. Every week I tried to dump my tanks only to have the sewer backed up not allowing me to dump. Each time it took going to the office for 3 days before it was fixed. This happened every week until I was fed up and asked for a refund for the rest of my stay and left. By mistake the owner charged my card instead of refunding me. When I brought it to his attention, instead of saying let me look into it he said he didn't charge my card. The next day I went down with proof and his staff corrected the issue.

Close enough to Indy that you can get anywhere within 30 minutes, and suburban areas with all services are even closer. Reasonably quiet area - especially if you're not camped along the main road, which still isn't bad. Established trees so it's really lovely, not like a parking lot with hookups. We have a 40' Class A and had no trouble getting in or out. Happy Camper RV service is on site which was super helpful when our jacks broke. They came right out and took care of the problem so we could get on the road.

From the pictures on their website, this campground looked to be very nice. However, when my wife and I stayed, it was more like a junk yard. We were surrounded by campers and RVs that were falling apart. The police showed up multiple times during our stay for fights, drugs, or dog attacks. They advertise family-friendly events, but with all the other issues, I wouldn't bring any children here. I definitely will not be back and can not recommend this property to anyone.

This place is extremely over priced for what it is (1000+ a month, plus electricity). And for what? The place is trashy and the dumpsters are always over flowing, and when they are emptied the trash ends up all over the place. It has potential but right now it is not worth the money they charge. The spots are small and the lower level floods so bad we had to walk through a foot of water for nearly a week and they did nothing to remedy that. I only gave 2 stars because they did their best to give us a spot with room, but even that one wasn't great. I could go on, just don't waste your money.

The clerk who answers the phone is not helpful and nice at all. Gentlemen hangs up on you when you're trying to inquire about the campground. Would not recommend. $75 a night for a tent camp site. Overpriced.
