The appeal of Spanish Oaks Campground, and indeed the entire Possum Kingdom State Park, is consistently affirmed by its visitors. Families particularly appreciate its proximity to the park's marina and store, making it incredibly convenient for grabbing essentials, renting equipment, or simply enjoying a quick bite.

Another review noted that while it's an excellent spot for a short getaway and general camping, those looking for "serious hiking and primitive camping" might find other areas more suitable. This distinction is important; Spanish Oaks excels as a comfortable, accessible campground with amenities, perfect for those who want to enjoy the lake and surrounding natural beauty without necessarily roughing it. It's a testament to its broad appeal, catering to campers who prioritize convenience, clean facilities, and easy access to recreational activities. Kids can pick up an activity journal at headquarters and engage in educational activities about nature and conservation, earning a badge upon completion. This adds a fun, interactive, and educational element to the trip at no additional cost.

Other than a log of duck and deer poop on the ground, this location is clean. Our family loved being close to the marina and the store.

It's not a bad place to just get away for a day or two. If you're looking for serious hiking and primitive camping, their are better places.

Loved staying here. They have the cleanest bathrooms we have seen so far. Hiking trails are nice and wide and have beautiful outlooks over the lake.

Great place close enough to the metroplex to get away for a quick weekend of camping. We were so glad to see that the PK Park Store had changed ownership. The new owners have remodeled and brightened things up including adding an outdoor patio and grill items for purchase. The previous owner was not the most welcoming. The only thing I have noticed about this Texas State Park is the grounds have always needed mowing in the Spanish Oaks Campground. Other than that, we always are pleased with everything.

Closest camp sites to the water. Not very much shade though. Picnic table and raised grill provided. Along with an outlet post, and water access. As long as you bring some sort of shade, it's a really nice spot.
