Introduction / Overview
For New York residents seeking a convenient and relaxing escape into nature, Spruce Creek Campground in Dolgeville, NY, presents itself as an appealing destination. Located in the beautiful foothills of the Adirondacks and the Central New York region, this family-owned and operated facility is dedicated to providing a full-service camping experience for both RV enthusiasts and tent campers. Situated on nearly 35 acres, the campground boasts close to one mile of frontage along Spruce Creek, a state-stocked brown trout stream, which immediately highlights its appeal for fishing and water-based leisure.
Spruce Creek Campground aims to offer more than just a place to park an RV; it promotes a welcoming, nature-focused community atmosphere. It is noted for its spacious, modern campsites, with sites designed to be twice the size required by New York State standards, providing extra comfort and privacy. Each campsite, whether open, woodsy, or creekside, includes an angled stone parking pad, a picnic table, and an in-ground fire pit, catering to various levels of camping preference from basic tenting to 50-amp full hook-up RVs. The park’s dedication to maintaining a high standard of facilities, as noted in public information detailing a new, clean bathhouse and ongoing enhancements like a new splash pad, demonstrates a commitment to quality that is highly valued by local New Yorkers planning their outdoor getaways.
While some public feedback has highlighted areas that may need attention—such as the condition of the creek access in certain areas, the need for more shade on some sites, and the lack of a fire ring on some fire pits—other reviews praise the management's exceptional friendliness, hard work, and the clean, large sites with nice grass areas. This diversity in feedback suggests that the campground is a continuously developing facility, managed by highly dedicated owners who prioritize creating a restful and community-oriented environment, a key factor for New York families seeking a reliable seasonal or weekend retreat.

It is a genuine local gem for those who love camping but don't want to sacrifice essential comforts and family fun.

We have 5 Golden Retrievers traveling with us. Their favorite activity is swimming. When I made the reservations it was one of the first questions that was asked, about swimming in the creek and being near it. I should’ve been more specific about what I wanted and expected. *You can enter the creek if you want to go down a 3-4 foot drop, something that I didn’t feel comfortable to have my crew do..especially when I noticed used tires in it and lots of overgrowth vegetation on the banks to access the creek. Not user friendly. *The kids playground area was in desperate need of cleaning the overgrown weeds out. *There not a lot of shade in camping areas. Each site has stone pad and grass area. *No dog park for them to stretch their legs.. although we did let them off leash in the field. The field is mowed and somewhat cleared. *Very sparse in having other campers around. *Our picnic table had rotted seat slats and needed to have boards replaced. *The fire pit doesn’t have a fire ring to contain the flames, so beware. *There’s lots of black flies that bite!! So bring repellent.. Even the dogs didn’t want to be outside.. It’s unfortunately not what we were expecting.
Aug 04, 2025 · Tammy Abramson McGinnisLove our spot here. We rented a seasonal spot and from the 1st conversation the manager was awesome. He was super friendly and helpful with helping me get the right sized space. He also informed us of road work and an a different route to avoid it. Upon arrival the campground is beautiful. The spaces are big. There is grass in every site. Probably not a biggie for you east cost folks, but when you're from AZ it surely is and boy do they keep it nice. I can actually walk barefoot here with no worries. The manager is always working on something. He never rests. I do believe he is the hardest working man I ever met. There is laundry here. 2 coin operated washers and dryers. With a table and chairs for waiting and folding. The machines seem to work great. There is a restroom with several toilet stalls and 2 showers in the ladies side. My husband said the guys side was nice too. There is a pavilion that people keep having events at and a really cute playground. They even have a pirate ship and a brand spanking new splash pad for the kids. So if you're looking for a nice peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature, but also enjoy amenities this is your place.
Aug 18, 2025 · Sharon PetersThe owner was a very nice man who attended to every detail. Small store on site. Close to town. A nice river runs through for fishing. A campfire pit at each campsite makes for a copy evening. The only negative was the black flies. Bring repellent!
May 29, 2025 · Sandy JonesPeaceful & quiet during the week I stayed in August. Spots are easy to maneuver & spacy. Owner is helpful. People are friendly. There are alot of "ground" rules in order to preserve the land. Wi-fi is limited speed.
Aug 07, 2024 · Desi DawnI have to agree with some of the reviewers that this place is so well kept! A real Hidden gem in the area! The owner took great care of this camp ground and very personable! As a family with small children we feel safe and comfortable to run around! Will definitely revisit!
