Introduction / Overview
For New Hampshire locals who treasure the perfect blend of scenic nature and convenient access to regional attractions, Wellington Camping Park in Lee, NH, stands out as a genuine Seacoast-area gem. Established in the summer of 1962 by Avis and Eliot Wellington, this family campground has offered generations of residents a peaceful "home away from home" on the shores of the wild and scenic Lamprey River. The park spans over 180 acres and boasts an impressive 2,500 feet of river frontage, ensuring a tranquil and expansive environment for every visitor.
Wellington Camping Park is not a fleeting commercial venture; it is a well-established, family-run institution, currently operated by the second generation of Wellingtons. This deep-rooted presence contributes to its reputation for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, providing genuinely friendly service, and upholding a strong, family-oriented community spirit. Campers consistently praise the impeccably clean campsites and bathrooms, and the staff's super friendly, helpful demeanor. The park masterfully balances the desire for a rustic, natural camping experience—with secluded, wooded sites—with the necessity of modern convenience, offering full hookups for RVs. This makes it a highly recommended choice for local New Hampshirites, whether they are looking for a weekend escape or a seasonal site to anchor their summer adventures. The operational season typically runs from mid-May through the end of September.
Furthermore, the park maintains a commitment to preserving a quality camping atmosphere, with strict, yet fair, rules against the visual clutter of "tacky ramshackle camps," ensuring the natural beauty of the area remains the primary focus for all who visit. This dedication to quality and community makes it a favored retreat within the region.

Our third season here. Impeccably clean campsites and bathrooms. Quiet, family oriented with friendly staff. River is great for fishing, swimming, and kayaking. Very strict rules about not turning trailers into tacky ramshackle camps like other campgrounds. Highly recommended. Conveniently located to nearby shopping and attractions.
Aug 08, 2025 · meredith mygattIt’s a quaint campground (not a hotel) along the Lamprey River in Lee, NH. We brought a camper trailer and the site had full setup (water, power, sewer), which was easy to use and worked great. The site was also fairly large so we had plenty of room to set up the camper, park two cars, and have room for a picnic table/fire pit and for two dogs to run around (leashed, of course). There’s a small building with restrooms and showers centrally located for easy access. The staff is super friendly and expect to see them riding around on golf carts as they’re doing their work, waving and saying hi as they go by. They also run events; for example, Saturday night they had a “Mexican fiesta” and potluck. We didn’t participate (we didn’t want to leave the dogs alone in the camper and they’re shy/don’t like strangers), but it looked like fun and we would’ve gone if we didn’t have the dogs. There’s a communal fire pit out front of the main office and you’ll often find people hanging out there. The beaches are small, but the river is small so that makes sense. The river is also pretty good for a little kayaking/canoeing. There is a small, somewhat secluded beach specifically for dogs so everyone gets a chance to enjoy beach time. The office has a small shop and sells some amenities, but if that’s not enough for you, don’t fret. There’s also various stores within a short drive, to the Lee traffic circle, Epping, or Dover/Durham. Hardware, groceries, fast food, etc… none of it is terribly far. This was our second time camping here (the first was tenting 2-3 years ago), and we had a lot of fun. We’ll probably be back for more.
Aug 12, 2025 · You're not my supervisorThis is a campground, so the "rooms" rating does not apply. We spent 3 nites here, car camping right by the river. Lovely, shady spot! Very friendly staff. Bathrooms and sites were impeccably clean. Nice walking trails thru the woods and a clean fenced in little dog park. We'll definitely be back.
Jul 27, 2025 · Birgit WoodThis is a campground so you bring your own room. The people are pleasant. This is a quiet campground and best for adult campers versus party animals. We enjoyed our stay.
