Introduction / Overview
For New Yorkers, the call of the great outdoors often leads north, toward the majestic landscapes of the Adirondack Mountains. Finding a reliable, full-featured basecamp for family adventures, however, is key. We are proud to highlight a significant destination in the state’s northern reaches: Blue Haven Campground and Resort. Located in the welcoming hamlet of Ellenburg Depot, this resort offers a significant slice of upstate tranquility, set on over 110 acres of picturesque, forested land right in the foothills of the Adirondacks. It's designed to be a true family-friendly destination, serving as a hub for both relaxation and active recreation. The resort's core appeal is its direct waterfront access to the on-site Lake Roxanne, which is also a key tributary of the North Branch Chazy River, part of the broader Lake Champlain watershed. While the lake may be noted for having some weediness, as mentioned in a customer review, it remains a beloved focal point for water activities and relaxation.
Blue Haven Campground and Resort is a substantial operation, boasting 366 spacious, grassy sites that are well-equipped to handle modern camping needs, particularly for RV and travel trailer enthusiasts, while also welcoming tent campers. This combination of large capacity and extensive amenities makes it a compelling choice for multi-generational families and groups across New York state seeking an extended summer retreat. Historically, the campground has been a long-standing fixture in the community, with a legacy spanning decades. Though the ownership has recently transitioned, the stated commitment from the new owners, "Neighbors of Blue Haven," is to uphold the campground's legacy and enhance its future, a reassuring sign for loyal patrons and potential new guests alike. This is a place where many New York families have built lasting memories, with a friendly atmosphere often highlighted by campers, and a staff known for being helpful and welcoming. It is positioned perfectly for New Yorkers seeking easy access to the unparalleled hiking, fishing, and boating opportunities that define the Adirondack and Lake Champlain region.
It is important, however, for potential guests to be aware of all public feedback, as one recent review contained serious allegations regarding safety and management response to incidents involving children. While the vast majority of reviews focus on the positive aspects of the campground’s facilities and friendly environment, this type of feedback is a critical part of the public record that management must address to assure all New York families of a safe and secure environment. For a full picture, interested parties should review the most current safety and management policies prior to booking.
Location and Accessibility
Blue Haven Campground and Resort is conveniently located at 5253 US-11, Ellenburg Depot, NY 12935, USA. This address places it squarely in Clinton County in Upstate New York, a region characterized by its scenic natural beauty and proximity to major natural landmarks. The location’s strength lies in its balance—it feels secluded enough for a genuine outdoor escape but is still within a reasonable drive of population centers and tourist hubs.
For New Yorkers, the accessibility of the site is excellent. It is situated just about 38 minutes north of Plattsburgh, a key city on the western shore of Lake Champlain that offers additional resources, shopping, and dining options. The campground’s setting near the Adirondack foothills means that world-class hiking, fishing, and boating are immediately at your fingertips. Furthermore, its proximity to the vastness of Lake Champlain—just minutes away—opens up even more recreational possibilities, including watersports and exploring Point Au Roche State Park. For those traveling from the southern parts of the state or even the Capital Region, the drive is a straightforward journey on major state and US routes. For instance, the drive from Utica is approximately 3 hours and 27 minutes, and it is a manageable road trip from Glens Falls at about 1 hour and 59 minutes, making it a viable weekend or week-long vacation destination without having to travel outside of New York state.
Services Offered
As a resort-style campground, Blue Haven offers an extensive array of services and amenities designed to make extended stays comfortable and engaging for the whole family. The focus is on providing full-service facilities for both RV and tent campers.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Blue Haven Campground and Resort is perfectly suited for New York residents looking for an accessible yet immersive outdoor vacation experience within their home state. For many of us, the Adirondacks represent the ultimate escape, and Blue Haven provides a comfortable, full-service entry point. Its primary suitability for locals comes from its strategic upstate location, minimizing travel fatigue compared to crossing state lines, and maximizing quality time. The vast, 110-acre setting offers the "space to breathe" that one local reviewer appreciated, providing a necessary retreat from the density of downstate life or the daily grind of city living. The full suite of amenities—especially the full hookups for RVs and the dual water access with both a lake and a pool—means families don't have to sacrifice comfort for adventure.
Furthermore, as a long-standing fixture in the Ellenburg community, the resort offers an opportunity to support local New York business and connect with the state's regional culture. With the commitment from the new ownership to maintain its legacy and enhance its offerings, Blue Haven remains a reliable choice for creating lasting family traditions. It is a one-stop destination where New Yorkers can fish on Lake Roxanne, hike the nearby Adirondack foothills, explore the historic shores of Lake Champlain, and return to a full-featured site for a peaceful night under the stars. It is an ideal blend of upstate adventure and family-friendly resort comfort, making it a premium option for your next New York getaway.

Love this campground! Space to breath! Lake is abit weedy but great
Sep 21, 2025 · Brent GosselinAwful experience. Assistant manager refused to do anything about a grown adult threatening bodily harm on a 9 year old child (cutting their testicles off )Another occasion rocks were thrown at my child’s face they refused to acknowledge there is an issue with the rocks ( they aren’t for filtration purposes). Some kids had blood running down their faces….. They also allow bullying children that have disabilities. They don’t care about anyone’s safety just lining their pockets with your money. We will never do business again!
Jul 27, 2024 · jennifer giddingsWe were visiting family in Plattsburgh and needed somewhere to camp with our trailer. We made a last minute decision to stay here and we were pleasantly surprised. Very clean, beautiful campground. The staff and everyone there were very friendly. We will be back again.
Aug 22, 2023 · Mariah SantosMost eclectic place I have ever stayed. It can not and should not be compared to any other RV Park, because it is'nt. The place is a place of it's own only to be experienced. We spent August through September 2022. The management, Dave and Tim go so far above and beyond expectations. The place is clean, well landscaped.Friendly and loaded with activities. It is a must stay in Upstate New York
Oct 23, 2022 · William MillerThere's a pool, a park, and bingo every week. Everyone is friendly. The sites are nice and maintained. Both water and sewer hookups.
