Situated along the beautiful shores of Lake Pauline, this campground provides a comfortable setting for RVers looking to relax, enjoy nature, and explore the local area. Whether you're planning a brief stop while traveling along I-70 or a longer stay to visit family and discover the charm of Effingham, Camp Lakewood aims to provide a welcoming base for your adventures.
Guest experiences at Camp Lakewood offer a mixed perspective, highlighting both its strengths and areas for improvement. A particularly positive review from a long-term guest emphasizes the potential for an excellent stay: "We stayed here for a month and a half during October & November to visit family in the area. We were really happy with our stay. The owner is friendly and accommodating. We didn’t have any issues during our stay. Since it was off season, the campground was really peaceful and quiet. The surrounding area has a lot to offer so it really adds to the appeal of this campground. There’s a public beach, playground, restaurant/bar right on the water, golf courses, and more all within walking distance. When we come home next, we look forward to booking here again." This speaks to the park's appeal for extended, tranquil visits and its advantageous location.
Another significant highlight from the same review is the campground's efficient and calm handling of a severe weather event: "Not having travelled middle America often, we had never experienced a tornado warning but when the sirens went off (oh my!), the staff handled it efficiently and calmly and there was a safe space to honker down. Highly recommend." This crucial detail provides immense peace of mind for campers, demonstrating a commitment to safety during unpredictable Illinois weather. While some recent feedback has pointed out concerns regarding maintenance and pet rule enforcement, the underlying positive attributes—friendly staff, peaceful atmosphere, excellent location, and a focus on safety—remain strong draws for many campers.

Customer Reviews
Excellent campground along I 70. Road noise but to be expected as it is an easy stop when travelling along the interstate. We had a lovely site backed onto the lake with beautiful mature trees. Helpful staff, especially Maddie! Not having travelled middle America often, we had never experienced a tornado warning but when the sirens went off (oh my!), the staff handled it efficiently and calmly and there was a safe space to honker down. Highly recommend.
Overall, Camp Lakewood is a nice campground with good views and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s a quiet place to relax, and we enjoyed the natural surroundings. However, the amenities could use some attention. Several chairs by the pond were broken, and some of the outdoor furniture was too dirty to sit on due to bird droppings. A bit pricey for this kind of oversight. One of the biggest concerns was the lack of enforcement when it comes to pet rules. Dogs were frequently off-leash throughout the property, by visitors and residents with permanent sites, which made walking our own dogs feel unsafe at times. With some improvements in maintenance and rule enforcement, this could easily be a 5-star destination.
Pulled into the park. The staff were very friendly. Went to park in assigned spot that was to small, so we went back to the office and the staff apologized and quickly moved us to another beautiful spot. The park is well cared for, the pizza shop they had was great. They’re currently putting up new playground equipment which is great to see. Overall a 5 star rating and we will visit again.
What a great place to pullover for a night or to stay longer! The people were amazing friendly and went out of their way to make us feel so welcoming. We ordered a pizza for dinner ( it was delicious) and they even delivered it to our site! What a nice treat not having to cook or try to find a nice restaurant! We would 100% suggest you try them out!
Camp Lakewood was an In-N-Out for us. Very nice campground, dog friendly and I thought it was cool. They had a dock in the lake for the Campers to use if they like. Fatso pizza at the campground was very good. I accidentally made my reservations for the wrong day and she was able to fit us in
