For Massachusetts residents seeking a true escape into the woods without sacrificing essential amenities, Indianhead Resort in Plymouth offers a compelling destination. Conveniently situated on State Road, this campground preserves the classic, rustic tradition of camping—a peaceful retreat where the sounds of nature replace the commotion of everyday life. This is the place for those who "appreciate the beauty and serenity of nature," providing spacious sites and a quiet environment that larger, amenity-heavy resorts often cannot match.
Indianhead Resort appeals directly to the seasoned camper and the family looking to unplug. While it may not feature the "bells and whistles" of sprawling modern resorts, its strength lies in its simplicity, generous site sizes, and exceptional location near some of the state's most historic and beautiful coastal areas. From welcoming staff like Tina and her team to the overall sense of peace that permeates the grounds, Indianhead is a genuine Plymouth camping experience. It’s an ideal spot for locals who value large, private space for their tent or RV, a serene forest setting, and easy access to both Plymouth's historic waterfront and the Cape Cod region.
Indianhead Resort, established with a focus on preserving a traditional camping atmosphere, provides a quiet, relaxing, and peaceful environment. Nestled within a lush forest, the resort is laid out over hills and plateaus, offering a mix of predominantly wooded sites, some of which feature vistas across the property. This setup ensures that campsites are often quite large, providing ample room for big 12-person tents, large RVs (up to 45 feet), vehicles, and space for outdoor games. The campground is notably quiet, making it an excellent choice for a restful weekend or a longer vacation where relaxation is the primary goal.
The resort operates with a professional, yet friendly approach, offering key amenities while maintaining its rustic charm. It is particularly popular during events in the area, such as the Levitate Music Festival, where its responsive staff and well-maintained sites are highly valued by visitors. For those who prioritize space, quiet, and a back-to-nature feel, Indianhead Resort stands out as a reliable and welcoming option in the Plymouth area.
Located at a convenient spot in Plymouth, the campground’s address places it within easy reach of major attractions and transport routes, making it highly accessible for Massachusetts travelers.

We stayed at Indianhead during the Levitate Music Festival and could not have been happier. Tina and her staff were extremely responsive and informative. Our site was absolutely beautiful. On the day of our arrival they offered live music and a food truck. The store had the necessities, as well as a slushy machine and ice cream novelties. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some kids may be accustomed to at the larger resorts, but for us, who appreciate the beauty and serenity of nature, it was perfect.
Jul 17, 2025 · Laurie GodwinMy kids would have rated it lower but there are a few pros to this place. If I wasn't with 4 kids that are used to camp grounds with more amenities it probably would have been fine. We were in a tent not that close to a bathroom but with family that had a camper so we used their bathroom most of the time. PROS - it's quite - Sites are big. We have a 12 person tent and it's huge. We still had space for our car and to play games - basketball court and volley ball court - small store with camp basics but no extras CONS - the "swimming area" is kind of a joke. The pond is better for fishing than anything else. We didn't rent a canoe but probably would have if the weather was nicer while we were there. - there are only 2 parking spots at the "beach" and when your site isn't close it can be a hike. And uphill. - the playground could some some updating. Its just swings, a sand pit and a climbing thing. Maybe cool for a toddler but not really for older kids. - the basketball hoop could be replaced. It can still be used but it's falling apart. Again, my kids have been spoiled with snack shakes, ice cream, arcades and nice ponds so this was not ideal for kids that are used to that. And it didn't help that it rained a lot when we were here so it made not having those to other amenities more obvious. But if you like the rustic camping and just want a tent in the woods, then you will be fine here!

Aug 21, 2025 · Darleen J RockwoodNice campground, but noisy and shady people. I will definitely not be returning. I'm not one to complain, but this place is not good.
