Wiggins itself is the county seat of Stone County, offering a small-town atmosphere with essential services, groceries, and local charm, all within a short drive from the campground.

Its proximity to both the Gulf Coast and the Hattiesburg area means that while you're enjoying the peace of the countryside, you're not entirely isolated. The blend of rural tranquility and reasonable accessibility to larger hubs makes it an appealing choice for many Mississippians.

Services Offered

  • RV Sites: Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds primarily caters to RVs, offering designated sites. While specific details on hookup types (e.g., 30/50 amp electric, water, sewer) are not extensively detailed in public reviews, it is typical for RV parks to offer full hookups or at least electric and water connections. Given that some guests have rented trailers, it implies that the necessary infrastructure for RVs is in place.
  • Trailer Rentals: As mentioned in a customer review, Lake-A-Way has offered trailers for rent. This indicates that they provide furnished or semi-furnished accommodation options for those who do not own an RV or tent but wish to experience longer-term stays or simply a different camping style. It’s important to note the review mentioned these trailers could be in "poor shape," suggesting that expectations for rental quality should be managed.
  • Long-Term Stays: Reviews suggest that Lake-A-Way is well-suited for extended or long-term stays, with mentions of paying "rent" on time. This indicates a focus on accommodating residents looking for affordable, ongoing lodging in a rural setting, rather than just transient overnight visitors.
  • On-site Management: Customer feedback highlights the presence of a manager who is described as "honest and will help and do what needs to be done," suggesting active on-site management and support for residents. The owner is also noted as being "nice but does not put up with any shenanigans," indicating clear rules and a focus on maintaining order within the community.
  • Community Atmosphere: While not a direct "service," the reviews hint at a community where "pretty much everybody mind their own business," which can be a desirable characteristic for many, offering a blend of independence and polite neighborliness.

Features / Highlights

  • Beautiful Location: The predominant highlight, consistently mentioned by visitors, is the "beautiful" location. This suggests scenic surroundings, likely involving natural elements such as scattered trees and open country, contributing to a serene environment.
  • Country Setting: Being "in the country outside of town," Lake-A-Way offers a genuine rural experience. This means less noise pollution, darker night skies for stargazing, and a general sense of peace and quiet, which is a major draw for those looking to escape urban environments.
  • Affordable Living: The mention of "rent" and "nothings free This is Mississippi" in reviews implies that the campground offers an affordable living option, particularly for longer-term residents. This can be a significant benefit for individuals or families seeking cost-effective housing solutions in a pleasant environment.
  • Managerial Support: A key highlight is the presence of a helpful and honest manager. This provides a sense of security and reliability, knowing there’s someone on-site to assist with issues, especially for disabled individuals, as noted in one review, where help was provided "beyond his job description."
  • Community of Self-Sufficiency: The comment about residents "mind their own business" suggests a community that values independence and privacy, which can be a positive feature for many. It fosters a sense of personal space while still being part of a larger community.
  • Pet-Friendly Potential: While not explicitly stated, campgrounds often attract pet owners. The outdoor setting and rural location make it highly probable that Lake-A-Way is a suitable environment for those with pets, aligning with the relaxed, country living vibe.
  • No Wi-Fi (Current Status): A notable feature (or lack thereof, as per the recent review) is the absence of Wi-Fi. While some may see this as a drawback, others might view it as an opportunity for a true "unplugged" experience, encouraging more outdoor activity and personal connection rather than screen time.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the provided customer reviews and typical public data availability for campgrounds of this nature, there is no specific information about ongoing promotions or special offers at Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds. Campgrounds, particularly those catering to long-term residents, often operate on consistent rental rates rather than frequent promotional deals. Pricing for RV sites or trailer rentals would likely be based on duration (daily, weekly, monthly) rather than seasonal discounts or special promotions often found at more tourist-oriented parks.

It is always recommended that prospective visitors or long-term residents contact Lake-A-Way Camp Grounds directly using the provided contact information to inquire about current rates, availability, and any potential long-term stay incentives that may not be publicly advertised. Given the review mentioning "rent," it's more probable that any "special offers" would pertain to favorable monthly or extended-stay rates rather than short-term promotional discounts.

The location is beautiful. My wife and I actually met here. I rented some of the trailers here and they were in poor shape. The owner screamed at me when I told her that the place needed repairs. Don't even worry about getting your deposit back because she won't give it to you even if you scrub the place clean and your rent was paid on time. And you even might have to fix things yourself just to live there.

I’ve enjoyed my stay. Everyone has been nice, especially the manager. He is honest and will help and do what needs to be done. I’m disabled his help to me beyond his job description. The owner is nice but does not put up with any shenanigans. Of course you have to pay your rent, nothings free This is Mississippi. It is in the country outside of town. You have your educated, and then you’re poorly educated folks around and pretty much everybody mind their own business which I really like. The only real disappointment I have is we no longer have Wi-Fi

I've had items stolen from my property (which is private) from lake away renters, I've been cussed at in front of my place by lake away residents. I've had chemicals sprayed in my driveway area and along my property line. I've been told I can't fish off my property because the lake away owner believes she owns everything out here. Not even the wildlife is safe! I've had lake away guest come on to my lot and throw trash in the water. I've also seen and stopped 2 guys abusing wild ducks with babies with nets. When I asked why they was doing that they stated "the owner of lake away told us to because she don't want them here" when I asked them if they was going to catch all the wild squirrel too? They said no. After I told them the property they was abusing the ducks at was privately owned and that they should stop right now before I call the police for trespassing, after throwing a duck into the trees one of them called me all kinds of nasty words. I don't recommend this place to anyone!
