Introduction / Overview
For New York residents seeking a high-quality, amenity-rich escape into nature without sacrificing comfort and convenience, Scenic View Campground
in West Winfield, NY, represents an ideal destination. True to its name, this campground is nestled high on a hill, providing stunning, expansive views of the surrounding Central New York countryside and farmland. It is far more than a simple place to pitch a tent; it is a full-service recreational hub.
Established in 2017 following extensive development, Scenic View Campground is designed to offer a blend of rustic charm and modern amenities. The property spans a significant 214 acres, offering diverse accommodations from primitive tent sites to fully equipped RV spots and cabin rentals. A unique feature that sets it apart in the region is the on-site Bar & Grill, which has quickly become a gathering spot not just for campers but also for locals in the West Winfield area.
The atmosphere is intentionally family-friendly, catering to those who appreciate a peaceful, well-maintained environment. It is a place where Central New Yorkers can easily transition from the quiet privacy of their site to the lively atmosphere of the on-site dining and entertainment venues.
Location and Accessibility
Scenic View Campground is conveniently located at 1707, 386 Truax Rd, West Winfield, NY 13491, USA. This location places it perfectly within the Mohawk Valley region, offering excellent accessibility from major population centers across New York State.
The campground is situated approximately 20 to 30 minutes from major hubs, including the cities of Utica and Cooperstown. This proximity is a major advantage for local users:

Mohawk Valley Convenience: The location is close enough to larger towns like Richfield Springs and Ilion for necessary supplies, grocery runs, and other urban conveniences, while remaining in a quiet, rural setting. Major casinos, resorts, and performance venues are also within a comfortable driving radius.
Regional Travel: The campground is manageable to reach from larger downstate areas, providing New Yorkers with a viable and scenic weekend getaway option into the heart of the state.
Visitors should be aware, however, that accessing the hilltop location may involve navigating a steep grade, which is a common characteristic of properties offering such dramatic scenic views.

We had a fantastic stay at Scenic View Campground in Warren, NH, in June 2025, booking three site types: a standard tent site, an RV site with full electrical and water hookups, and a deluxe streamside cabin. The cabin was cozy, clean, and well-equipped with a full bathroom (shower only, no tub), sleeping up to five (max four adults), and featured heat for cooler evenings, making it ideal for our family of three. It backed up to a serene nature area along the brook, adding to the tranquil setting. The tent and RV sites, located adjacent to the Baker River, were highlights. The shallow, brook-like river was a safe, fun spot for our kids to play, with its gentle flow providing calming background noise at night. The campground is well-maintained, with clean facilities (bathrooms, showers, laundry, and portable toilets) and a warm, inviting pool. A small, clearly marked 10-minute nature trail on-site was perfect for early morning walks through the woods. The staff were friendly and engaging, offering great recommendations for nearby attractions like the Polar Caves, a short drive away. Pros include an easy online booking process with a detailed map of the grounds, allowing us to accurately choose multiple sites for our group. The customer service was accommodating, the atmosphere family-friendly, and the quiet hours reasonable. The campground offers diverse stay options (tent, RV, cabins), is easy to find, and has excellent bug control. However, check-in (late morning) and check-out (early morning) times felt restrictive, though remote/after-hours check-in until 8 PM was convenient. The coin-operated showers ($0.25 for 4 minutes) were a hassle despite generous timing. Additionally, the grounds aren’t ATV/dirtbike/SXS-friendly, with no off-road vehicles allowed inside. The staff permitted us to double-park our utility trailer and ATV outside, but noted this isn’t standard practice. More family-friendly activities would enhance the experience. Overall, Scenic View Campground is a great family-friendly spot in the White Mountains with scenic river views and excellent service. We’d return, but hope for more flexible check-in/out times, free hot showers, and additional activities.
Jun 29, 2025 · Rafael CornielNice camp grounds, nice ponds , good food at there restaurant.
Sep 20, 2025 · John KissThe grounds are beautiful! Owner’s obviously take pride in their property. Appreciate the 11pm quiet hr. on the weekend. Sites are roomy with lots of grassy areas to walk dogs. And feeding the fish in the pond was entertaining for kids and adults! The restaurant was great. Large selection, and very reasonable prices. Only downside is that theres not a lot to do in the area.
Jul 24, 2024 · EWe rented one of the cabins for a weekend. The cabin was lovely, the grounds are beautiful and the staff are friendly and so helpful. The restaurant has a nice quick food menu and, I understand, some great daily dinner specials. Our experience there was great and we plan on returning.
Jul 31, 2023 · Judith OgiejkoWe stayed at this campground for five nights while visiting the Adirondacks and family who lived close by. There may be campgrounds closer to the Adirondacks, but you'll not find one as nice as this one. The sites are huge, the restrooms and showers are spotless. I used the laundry room and it was so clean that it set the bar for other campgrounds non of which can compare. If you are looking for bells and whistles this is not the campground for you. However, if you want great customer service you'll find it here.
