Nestled along the Exeter River and spread across naturally wooded terrain, this campground offers a true New England escape while maintaining close proximity to some of the Seacoast’s most vibrant attractions. It caters to a range of campers, providing sites for RVs, tents, and even cozy cabin rentals, ensuring there's a perfect spot for every type of outdoor enthusiast.
The campground operates under the umbrella of Modern America Campgrounds, aiming to blend the tranquility of nature with the comforts and extensive activities of a modern resort-style park. It is designed to be a hub of fun, featuring a variety of amenities that appeal to all ages, from thrilling waterslides to organized weekly events. While the ownership structure has seen changes and, as some long-time guests have noted, the level of maintenance and enforcement of rules have seen fluctuations, the dedicated staff members on site are generally recognized for their helpful and accommodating nature, working hard to maintain the campground's appeal.
Winding River Campground is more than just a place to park an RV; it is a community that strives to offer endless activities and scenic landscapes, making it an ideal choice for New Hampshire families looking to establish a seasonal home away from home or simply enjoy a fun-filled weekend getaway close to the action of the Seacoast.

Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for New Hampshire Locals
Winding River Campground, despite some of the operational and management challenges highlighted by customer feedback, remains a fundamentally appealing option for New Hampshire locals. Its most significant advantage is its exceptional location. It offers a convenient, close-to-home escape that saves residents the long drive to the White Mountains while placing them within minutes of the Seacoast's best attractions. The wealth of on-site amenities, including the pool, waterslide, and extensive activity programming, makes it an energetic and entertaining destination, particularly for families with children. The availability of seasonal sites is a massive draw for Granite Staters who want a dedicated summer retreat without the financial burden of a second home. While recent customer reviews point to a period of transition, with concerns about site maintenance, infrastructure upkeep (like road conditions and pool water quality), and the consistency of promised activities, the core offering—a high-amenity, family-centric campground near the beaches and historic towns of the Seacoast—retains strong value. For locals seeking a high-energy, amenity-rich camping experience and are willing to tolerate an environment that can be busy and sometimes noisy, Winding River Campground provides an accessible and fun family vacation spot in a prime New Hampshire location. Prospective guests are encouraged to contact the campground directly to confirm the current status of services and amenities prior to booking.

We stayed at winding river in early August, Friday and Saturday night. Positives: nice wooded location close to town. Lots to do in the area. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Staff members were working hard to maintain the campground. Negatives: website pictures and map are very misleading. Many long term residents with grown up and cluttered sites. The road through the park is narrow and rough. Many campsites had multiple vehicles parked in the road making it very difficult to maneuver our 43 motor home. Endless stream of noisy traffic through park from morning til late at night, causing a thick cloud of dust. In the midst of this traffic and dust are young unsupervised children running, riding bikes, playing. Area around the pool is crowded with people, traffic, and the pool water is the same shade as the river. The “River” is a shallow creek that would be impossible to kayak in. The charge for our site was more than what we have paid at nice resorts. I feel this place has potential but seems understaffed. Park rules need to be enforced. It is not safe for children.
Aug 03, 2025 · LeAnn BarnhartI have been coming to Winding River Campground for several years, and every past visit has been wonderful…until this season. In previous years, there were live entertainment nights and coordinated activities posted well in advance so everyone, including weekend guests, could plan and enjoy them. That’s all gone now. The store is poorly stocked, alcohol sales have stopped, and the so-called “restaurant” no longer serves decent meals, just fried food. The pool is green and frequently closed. Only one washing machine works, and it’s been this way almost all season. The few staff members on site are kind and helpful, but they are clearly understaffed. Management has changed multiple times, and communication is nonexistent. I understand ownership has changed, but I do not understand why the amenities have been reduced so drastically. With a large corporation behind this campground, I expected better, not worse. As a seasonal camper, I’m now embarrassed to invite friends and family here or to recommend renting a site.
Aug 24, 2025 · Avid CamperMy family absolutely loves this campground! This week we spent our second time here and it DID NOT disappoint!! Activities and the anemones are fantastic. This week was Western themed and there was country line dancing lessons, karaoke for adults and kids, tween time and a Saturday night bonfire. The pool and hot tub are a huge hit with our family and the playground has a really cool bounce cloud pillow that the kids LOVE!! Gem mining is cute and the little “town” buildings for their store, ice cream, game room and restaurant are a cute touch! The ONLY thing that could make this place better would be a handicapped lift for the pool. We have a grown daughter in a wheelchair and that would be a huge help for us but we always bring things to help us with accommodations like that. Anyway, we plan to return for sure!
Aug 20, 2025 · Kimberly WhiteI have been a seasonal camper here for a few years and we have changed management each year. This new management “Modern America” has definitely completely ruined this campground. Today, which is Labor Day weekend, the manager Brandy and her boyfriend kicked out 2 seasonal members and was unable to give a valid reason to either as to why. The manager then called the police and they even told the manager she needs to get her affairs in order before kicking out a seasonal. One of these seasonals runs the majority of the activities and because of this kicking out, there was no karaoke or dance party (as was advertised for tonight’s activities) and the manager did not post anything regarding the canceling of the activities. As a result, there were numerous transient campers waiting at the pavilion for tonight’s advertised activities and there was complete silence from the manager. This management is completely unacceptable and as a result I would NOT recommend camping here any longer. Halloween weekend is a huge draw for the campers here, however the seasonal camper who was kicked out handles the ENTIRE setting up of the Halloween display for the Halloween hayride. There is no way the current manager Brandy will be able to organize this type of display. I wish I could give 0 stars to this campground. Oh and the restrooms where the tent campers are are also out of order and these tent campers now need to drive to a restroom. This could have been fixed had the manager Brandy called in the waste management company contracted with the campground.
Sep 01, 2025 · Seasonal CamperThis campground has the potential to be great, but it's disorganized. The bathrooms don't have shower doors, just a curtain, all it’s dirty and there's no security whatsoever! The store that's open has no merchandise and empty shelves. The after-hours phone doesn't work, and we had to deal with a lot of noise from a nearby campsite until 2 a.m. I really didn't feel safe there. The pool was super crowded, with people smoking and drinking alcohol there. It's a place with no rules. They exist on paper, but in practice, they don't enforce anything!
